Insgesamt 10 g reines, wiederholt umkristallisiertes Caryophyllen-oxyd wurden in Portionen von je 2 g in Reagenzglasern auf den1 Sandbad zum Sieden erhitzt und mit je einem Kornchen Jod versetzt. Unter lebhaftem Aufsieden wurde Wasser abgespalten und Jodwasserstoff entwickelt. Nach 10 Minuten war das Resktionsprodukt griingelb gefarbt. Bei der Wasserdampfdestillation ging blaues Azulen uber, das, wie iiblich, mittels Phosphorsaure ausgezogen und durch Chromatographieren uber A1,0, und iiber das Trinitrobenzolat gereinigt wurde. Schmp. 1510; Mischschmp. mit dem Trinitrobenzolat des reinen Guajazulens aus Guajol. Das aus dem Trinitrobenzolat uber A1,0, regenerierte Azulen ergab in Cyclohexanlosung im Spektral-densographen von Z e i s s -I k o n die charakteristiache Absorptionskurve des reinen Guajazulens, siehe A 576, 114 (1952).J o d -i s o m e r i s i e r u n g d e r N e l k e n o l -s e s q u i t e r p e n e (gemeinsam mit U. Boelke12)A. I n 50g Sesquiterpen-Fraktion aus Nelkenol, die auf dem Olbad zum Sieden erhitzt wurden, wurden je Stunde 0,06 g Jod eingetragen. Die Drehung stieg nach I Std. auf -22,14O, nach 2 Std. auf -26,30°, nach 3 Std. auf -29,22O und nach 4 Stud. auf -32,64O an. Ein weiterer Anstieg erfolgte bei langerem Erhitzen nicht mehr. Das isomcrisierte Gemisch siedete von 100-1 12 "Iis.Nsch 5 und 10 Stunden wurde starke A z u l e n b i l d u n g festgestcllt, die bei liingerem Erhitzen abnahm. Das Azulen wurde uber das Phospfiorsaure-addukt herausgearbeitet und als Trinitrobenzolat vom Schmp. 151 (ebenso Mischschmp. mit dem Trinitrobenzolat des reinen Guajazulens aus Guajol) und die charakteristiache Absorptionskurve des hieraus regenerierten Azulens als G u a j a z u l e n charakterisiert. Der 5 Stunden lang isomerisierte Kohlenwasserstoff gab sowohl bei der Jod-wie bei der Selen-dehpdrierung weitere erhebliche Guajazulenmengen. Einige Untersuchungen an Tro olonen und Vergleiche mit dem Colgicin
P. YATES, M. I. ARDAO und L. F. FIESER~) untersuchten die IR-Spektren einerReihe von p-Benzochinonen, die i m wesentlichen auf methylsubstituierte Chinone beschrhkt war. Im Zusammenhang mit Problemen, die bei Untersuchungen uber die in erster Linie durch Mikroorganismen bewirkte Umwandlung organischer Substanz im Boden auftreten, interessieren besonders methoxy-und hydroxysubstituierte Chinone. In der vorliegenden Arbeit wird uber die IR-Spektren der methylsubstituierten Monomethoxy-p-benzochinone (Reihe Il), der methylsubstituierten Monohydroxy-p-benzochinone (Reihe 111) und der methoxysubstituierten p-Benzochinone (Reihe IV) berichtet. Zum Vergleich wurden die Spektren der methylsubstituierten p-Benzochinone (Reihe 1) herangezogen.Die Spektren wurden mit dem automatisch registrierenden IR-Spektrographen der Firma E. LEITZ in Tetrachlorkohlenstoff (Reihen I, 11 und 111) bzw. in Kaliumbromid (Reihe IV) aufgenommen. Die Hauptbanden zwischen 5.9 und 12 p und die OHBanden der Hydroxy-p-benzochinone i m Bereich 2.92-2.95 p sind in den Tabellen 1 und 2 zusammengestellt. Tabelle 3 enthalt die Banden der Spektren von p-Benzochinonen mit groBerem Alkylrest.Die verhaltnismal3ig langwelligen Lagen der scharfen Banden der OH-Vulenzschwingungen der CH3-substituierten Monohydroxy-p-benzochinone (2.92 -2.95 p) lassen auf eine Orientierung des Hydroxyl-H-Atoms zur Chinoncarbonyl-Gruppe hin schlieBen. Nach A. POZEFSKY und N. D. COGGESHALL~) liegen in diesem Gebiet die symmetrischen CH-Valenzschwingungen der CH3-Gruppen (Mittel 3 . 4 7 2~) und CHz-Gruppen (Mittel 3.494 p) von aliphatischen Alkoholen und k h e r n . Dementsprechend wiirde es sich bei der beobachteten Bande der Methoxy-p-benzochinone, die keine CHz-Gruppen besitzen, um die gegenuber aliphatischen k h e r n etwas nach Iangeren Wellen verschobene symmetrische CH-Valenzschwingung von CH3-Gruppen handeln. Z u XXVIII-XXX. -Diese Spektren weisen groBe Ahnlichkeit auf: einen 6 . 2 5~ und 6.65p), der 1.4-disubstituiert ist (1 1 . 7~ und 11.8p), benachbarte Stickstoffatome (6.35~, 7 . 4~, 7.7p), aromatische Ather-Bindung bei 8 . 0~ und C-0-C-Bindung bei 9 . 7 5~. Mit zunehmender aliphat. Kettenlange verschiebt sich die letztgenannte Bande nach 9 . 4~. -Zusatzlich besitzt das Spektrum von XXX bei 8 . 5~ ein Dublett, das einer Gruppierung (CH&C( zuzuordnen ist.Zu XXXI-XXXIII und XXXV. - 2-Methoxy-6-methyl-2-Methoxy-3.5-dimethyl-2-Methoxy-3.6-dimethyl-2-Methoxy-5.6-dimethyl- 2-Methoxy-3.5.6-trimethyl-Hydroxy-2-Hydroxy-3-methyl-2-Hydroxy-5-methyl-2-Hydroxy-6-methyl-2-Hydroxy-3.5-dimethyl-2-Hydroxy-3.6-dimethyl-2-Hydroxy-5.6-dimethyl-2-Hydroxy-3.5.6-trimethyl- W. FLAIG, TH. PLOETZ und A. KULLMER~) wiesen darauf hin, daB das zweite Maximum bei methylsubstituierten p-Benzochinonen mit steigender Anzahl der Substituenten nicht stetig nach langeren Wellen verschoben wird, sondern daB die Maxima der mono-und disubstituierten Verbindungen mit Ausnahme von 2.3-Dimethyl-pbenzochinon (1;3) einerseits, die Maxima der tri-und tetrasubstituierten und des 2.3-Dimethyl-p-benzochinons (I/3) andererseits, jeweils an etwa gleicher Stelle liegen. E.A. BRAUDE~) zeigte, daB die Extinktionen dieser Maxima, wie auch diejenigen der chlor-und bromsubstituierten p-Benzochinone, als Funktion der Anzahl der Substituenten alternieren. Die Spektren von 2.3-Dichlor-und 2.3-Dibrom-p-benzochinon wurden von BRAUDE nicht gemessen. Die fur 2.3-Dimethyl-p-benzochinon angegebelien Werte weichen von den unseren stark ab *). Die angefuhrten RegelmaBigkeiten in Bezug auf Lage und Extinktion des zweitenMaximums lassen sich so formulieren, daB ein Zusammenhang zwischen diesen beiden erkennbar wird und die 2.3-disubstituierten p-Benzochinone sich zwanglos einordnen. Innerhalb der Gruppen A und B machen sich durch Art und Stellung der Substituenten bedingte ,,sekundare" Effekte bemerkbar, die sich im einzelnen noch nicht ubersehen lassen, zumal sie zum Teil an der Grenze der MeSgenauigkeit liegen. Es ist bemerkenswert, da13 der durch die Substitution hervorgerufene ,,sekundare" Effekt bei Tetramethoxy-p-benzochinon im Gegensatz zum Methoxy-trimethyl-und Hydroxy-trimethyl-p-benzochinon nahezu fehlt. Moglicherweise hangt das mit der Symmetrie dieses Molekiils zusammen. H C6H5Die Maxima der Anionrn der Hydroxy-p-benzochinone zeigen die gleiche von der Stellung der Substituenten abhangige Gruppenbildung (Abb. 6, IIIb). Sie sind in das sichtbare Gebiet verschoben. Alkylsubstituierte p-Benzochinone, die neben der Hydroxygruppe keinen Substituenten tragen, sind in alkalischer Losung rot, solche, die neben der Hydroxygruppe einen Substituenten tragen, violett (Abb. 7).Entsprechende Gruppen wie die Wellenlangen zeigen die Extinktionen der zweiten Maxima.
