The results indicate that the prevalence of endometriosis increases with the time spent in captivity. This trend may be explained by more menstrual cycles uninterrupted by pregnancy in captive than in wild baboons, and possibly also by age-related factors or by captivity-associated stress.
Five patients with biopsy-proven craniofacial fibrous dysplasia underwent MRI with T1- and T2-weighted sequences and a gadolinium-enhanced T1-weighted spin-echo sequence. Low to intermediate signal intensity was usually seen in the largest part of the lesion on both spin-echo sequences, but smaller regions of hyperintensity on T1- and T2-weighted images and intermediate signal intensity throughout a lesion on T1-weighted images were also seen. All lesions enhanced but only two became iso- or hyperintense compared to fat. High clinical and pathological activity in three cases correlated with high signal intensity on both spin-echo sequences and with strong enhancement in two of the three. The presence of large veins or sinusoids on pathological examination did not correlate with the enhancement pattern.
Malignant histiocytic neoplasms of dendritic cell lineage are rare and most are derived from the dendritic cells of the T-cell and B-cell areas of the lymph node, respectively. Only one case of a malignant histiocytic neoplasm of Langerhans' cells, the dendritic cell of the skin, has been reported. We report the occurrence of a true histiocytic neoplasm of Langerhans' cell type in a 23-year-old female patient. The diagnosis of this highly aggressive neoplasm is supported by histochemical, immunohistochemical, ultrastructural, and genotypic analysis--techniques which allow differentiation from malignant melanoma and large cell anaplastic lymphoma.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
