Las unidades de producción campesinas, a pesar de los pocos o nulos apoyos recibidos siguen siendo importantes en la producción de alimentos. Sus estrategias están basadas en el manejo de sus escasos recursos, el aprovechamiento de su mano de obra y su experiencia. El objetivo de este estudio fue analizar el proceso de producción y los mecanismos de comercialización de chía que realizan familias campesinas de los municipios de Tochimilco y Atzitzihuacán, Puebla, México. Para obtener la información se aplicó una encuesta a 101 productores de chía en el ciclo PV-2013 y se entrevistó a 10 informantes clave de los mercados de Puebla y Atlixco. Los resultados muestran que son pequeños productores, con una edad promedio de 53 años y escolaridad promedio de primaria. Para realizar agricultura emplean técnicas tradicionales basadas en conocimientos, experiencias y saberes campesinos que han sido heredados por generaciones. Producen cultivos básicos, principalmente de autoconsumo y algunos para venta. Su unidad de explotación familiar es en promedio de 3.3 ha, dicha superficie está distribuida en más de dos predios. Para el proceso productivo de la chía utilizan sistemas y herramientas tradicionales, tan sólo 8% cuenta con tractor y 90% utiliza yunta en las diferentes labores culturales típicas de una agricultura tradicional. Los mecanismos de comercialización son los tradicionales, realizada en mercados locales y regionales. Aun cuando los precios han disminuido considerablemente, los productores siguen sembrando chía con rentabilidad mayor a la de otros cultivos, como maíz y frijol, mismos que se producen con un alto significado social. Se concluye que la chía se ha venido convirtiendo en una fuente importante de ingresos y con posibilidades de aporte al desarrollo local para los pequeños productores, a pesar de la situación inestable de precios con tendencias a la baja.
La presente investigación tuvo como objetivo evaluar el grado de conocimiento y de transferencia de innovaciones agroecológicas por parte de las Agencias de Desarrollo Rural (ADR) participantes en el PESA-FAO, en el estado de Puebla, bajo la hipótesis de que las que poseyeran este conocimiento y lo transfirieran a sus grupos de atención desarrollan mejores capacidades para la seguridad y soberanía alimentaria. Se seleccionaron 10 microrregiones de las regiones Norte, Negra y Mixteca del estado de Puebla, donde operan igual número de ADR. Se aplicó una entrevista semiestructurada al personal técnico de las ADR y una encuesta a beneficiarios. Dentro del PESA el traspatio es uno de los espacios con mayor relevancia, con el potencial de complementar buena parte de la dieta de las familias rurales. Las prácticas agrícolas sustentables juegan un papel importante en el trabajo de las ADR, aunque los técnicos no cuentan con el conocimiento teórico sobre la agroecología; por otro lado, los beneficiarios realizan varias técnicas con un enfoque agroecológico. Este no es explícito dentro del planteamiento teórico del PESA, por lo que se recomienda se incluya de manera clara y que los técnicos cuenten con un conocimiento agroecológico que puedan compartir con las familias.

Esteestudio tiene como objetivo analizar las relaciones que las familias de una regiónsemiárida del sur del estado de Puebla, México, han establecido con su territoriopara tener acceso a los recursos hídricos y si el volumen adquirido es suficiente parasatisfacer las necesidades básicas, de conformidad con los parámetros establecidospor las Naciones Unidas, Observación General número 15, adoptada por elComité de Derechos Económicos, Sociales y Culturales: Disponibilidad, calidad yaccesibilidad física, económica, no discriminación y acceso a la información.
El café (Coffea arabica L.) es un cultivo muy importante para el desarrollo del centro y sur de México: 70% del área cultivada se encuentra bajo manejo tradicional. Por la relevancia de estos agroecosistemas el objetivo fue identificar prácticas agroecológicas (PA) y su influencia en la fertilidad del suelo en sistemas de café de Xolotla, Puebla. Para identificar PA se aplicó una encuesta a 79 productores; para determinar la fertilidad del suelo se realizaron análisis fisicoquímicos con base en la NOM-021-SEMARNAT; además, se analizó la concentración bacteriana total. Se encontró que 71% de las prácticas que se usan en el manejo del cafetal son agroecológicas, tienen relación positiva con el rendimiento y con los contenidos de nitrógeno, potasio y calcio del suelo, así como con la concentración bacteriana del suelo. Se concluye que las PA favorecen el rendimiento y la fertilidad del suelo en el sistema agroforestal café.
