Herringbone technique is the technique to help students find important information and main idea in a text by seeking the answer of six comprehension questions on a diagram. This study is intended to know how the lecturer’s implement herringbone technique to the students’ reading comprehension, especially detail information and main idea. The research was done at STAI Bahrul ‘Ulum Tambakberas. The subject of the study was the second semester of PAI-A students consisting 33 students. The study is descriptive qualitative conducted in four meetings. The researcher applied several techniques including observation, field notes, interview, questionnaire, and students’ test. To analyze the lecture’s implementation, data condensation which are selecting, focusing, simplifying, abstracting and transforming all the data found. Then data display means compressed the information, and the last was conclusion drawing. In analyzing the test, the researcher used holistic scoring scale adapted from Brown. And diagram used to analyze the students’ respond toward the implementation. The research finding shows that the implementation of herringbone technique is conducted into three phases; (1) pre-reading phase, which focussed on background knowledge and brainstorm, (2) whilst-reading, which consist on reading activity, fill and discuss the diagram, and (3) post-reading which mean to check the students’ understanding. In conclusion, the use of herringbone technique in teaching reading comprehension requires the lecture to do specific activities of teaching and learning process in accordance with the stages of herringbone technique. The student’s responses result to the herringbone questions and the number of main ideas during teaching learning process increased from first until fourth meeting. The students’ responded toward the implementation of herringbone technique was very good, gave possitive effect and helped them more easily in understanding the text.
The background of the problem of this research is that the teacher in conducting learning has not fully implemented an appropriate learning model and is in accordance with the way students learn. This raises a problem when teachers apply a monotonous learning model and there is no compatibility with the learning styles of their students, the learning process does not attract students' learning interest so students have difficulty understanding the material being taught. The problem in this study is: how is the effectiveness of the MURDER learning strategy (Mood, Understand, Recall, Digest, Expand, Review) to improve the understanding ability of high school students, whether the MURDER learning strategy (Mood, Understand, Recall, Digest, Expand, Review) can improve the comprehension ability of high school students. This research is a Classroom Action Research (CAR). In the learning process researchers use Fiqh subjects as research material. The subjects of the study were students of Class X IPA 1 High School BPPT Darul Ulum Jombang. Data collection is done by observation, interviews, and tests to complete the data revealed. Meanwhile, to obtain the validity of the data, the authors use technical triangulation analysis. Source triangulation is used to test the credibility of the data carried out by checking the data obtained through several sources.
Pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk memberikan pelatihan mengenai penggunaan media pembelajaran “Funglish” (Fun Learning English) berbasis aplikasi android pada mata pelajaran Bahasa Inggris bagi siswa SMP kelas VII semester I yang berjumlah 27 siswa di Desa Mojokrapak Kecamatan Tembelang Kabupaten Jombang. Agar anak-anak di Desa Mojokrapak semakin bersemangat dalam mempelajari Bahasa Inggris tertama pada materi Speaking dan Listening. Adapun di dalam pelatihan penggunaan media pembelajaran “Funglish” Fun Learning English, kami menggunakan metode Community Based Research (CBR), dimana metode ini merupakan sistematis pendidikan dan instruksional proses desain yang didalamnya memiliki proses kegiatan analisis, desain, evaluasi, dan revisi sehingga mendapatkan hasil yang memuaskan yang diaplikasikan menjadi suatu tindakan nyata berupa pengabdian kepada masyarakat. Pelaksanaan kegiatan pengabdian pada masyarakat ini dilaksanakan pada tanggal 3 sampai dengan 5 nopember 2021. Berdasarkan dari hasil pelatihan mengenai penggunaan media pembelajaran “Funglish”, maka dapat disimpulkan bahwa Metode aplikasi “Funglish’ dapat membantu mendorong minat dan bakat siswa-siswi dalam proses belajar mengajar, terutama dalam pembelajaran bahasa inggris, memberikan pemahaman akan pentingnya media pembelajaran pendukung, agar proses belajar mengajar lebih bervariasi dan tidak monoton, dan juga memberikan pemahaman kepada siswa dan siswi jika belajar tidak hanya dengan buku, tetapi banyak teknologi yang dapat dimanfaatkan untuk menciptakan media pembelajaran yang baru dan menarik.
In the Covid 19 era, learning became online, so the learning process was carried out online. The objectives of the researcher are: 1) Knowing the pattern of interaction between teachers and students, during online learning 2.) Knowing the supporting and inhibiting factors during the online learning process 3.) Overcoming obstacles during the online learning process. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method which is applied at SMA Negeri Plandaan Jombang class XI Mapel PAI which consists of 30 students. The results showed that during the online learning process, the teacher used whatshap media and PPT groups. Learning goes well, and is more effective, and students can follow the lesson well. The supporting factor is the aid package from the government and schools. inhibiting factor in this study in terms of the network when collecting assignments. In overcoming this, the teacher prioritizes coaching and directing students to stay enthusiastic in the online learning process.
The objectives of this study are implementation, and evaluation using Cooperative Script method in reading comprehension. It also to determine whether or not there is an increase in reading comprehension results using the Cooperative Script method. This research referred as qualitative research, which is an action thought on a particular object. The type of this research is Classroom Action Research. Classroom action research is a digestion of learning activities in the form of an action, which is deliberately raised and occurs in a class together. The process of reading comprehension in this study uses the Cooperative Script method, which consists of 2 cycles of 5 meetings. The first cycle consisted of two meetings and the second cycle of two meetings, one meeting was used for the pre-test. In planning, the researcher compiles a learning implementation plan, makes learning media compile an observation instrument to observe students in learning activities. The process of implementing evaluation in this learning is carried out at the end of each cycle. The assessment is carried out to determine the ability of students' reading comprehension in using the methods that have been applied. The success rate in each cycle has increased, starting from the pre-test which increased on average 45 in cycle I to 61.10 then increased again in cycle II to 72.3. From the results of the assessment it can be proven that the application of the Cooperative Script method can improve students' reading comprehension.
