El método más común para estimar variables dasométricas a gran o pequeña escala es el inventario forestal basado en un muestreo en campo. En la actualidad la teledetección ofrece un abanico de posibilidades para incorporarse en las estimaciones forestales, tal es el caso de LiDAR (Light Detection And Ranging) que permite caracterizar de forma tridimensional el bosque. En este trabajo se estudió la relación entre datos derivados de LiDAR con los datos medidos en campo para estimar variables dasométricas como: área basal (AB), biomasa total (BT), cobertura arbórea (COB) y volumen de madera (VOL), mediante cuatro métodos: 1) regresión lineal múltiple, 2) regresión no lineal, 3) estimador de razón y 4) inventario forestal tradicional (muestreo estratificado). Las estimaciones totales derivadas del estimador de razón se encuentran dentro del intervalo de confianza al 95% calculado mediante inventario tradicional para AB, BT y VOL, siendo este el estimador que arroja los valores más cercanos y precisos a la estimación mediante inventario. En general, las estimaciones de los modelos no lineales fueron los más optimistas con respecto al inventario tradicional. Los resultados indican una buena relación (R2 > 0.50) entre las métricas de LiDAR y datos de campo, principalmente los percentiles de altura y las tasas de retorno sobre una altura definida. A partir de los modelos lineales, se generó la cartografía de cada una de las variables analizadas.
Introducción: La densidad del rodal impacta en la productividad y en la estructura y funciones de los bosques. Objetivos: Comparar las líneas de densidad máxima para bosques mezclados, ajustadas con mínimos cuadrados ordinarios (MCO) y regresión frontera estocástica (RFE), y generar un diagrama de manejo de la densidad (DMD) para prescribir aclareos. Materiales y métodos: Los datos se obtuvieron en rodales mezclados de la Unidad de Manejo Forestal 1005 “Santiago Papasquiaro y Anexos” en Durango, México. La relación funcional densidad-tamaño se estableció con el modelo de Reineke. La línea de densidad máxima se ajustó con MCO y RFE, este último con los enfoques seminormal (N-H), normal-exponencial (N-E) y normal-truncada (N-T). El DMD se construyó con la ecuación de RFE con el enfoque de distribución normal-truncada. Resultados y discusión: La línea de densidad máxima, modelada vía RFE con enfoque N-T, mostró mejor ajuste al límite superior de la densidad máxima de los datos de rodales mezclados. El DMD sugiere que los aclareos para estos rodales pueden aplicarse con intensidades de corta altas, a pesar de las prácticas convencionales, donde raramente se remueve más del 30 % del área basal o volumen. Conclusión: La línea de densidad máxima para bosques mezclados de Durango, México, se generó objetivamente con regresión frontera estocástica, como un modelo normal-truncado.
El vigor de un árbol se puede evaluar a partir del follaje, que si bien representa de 4% a 6% de la biomasa total del árbol, es el componente principal para los procesos fisiológicos. El objetivo de este estudio fue estimar la biomasa de acículas en ramas individuales y árbol completo, y ajustar modelos de partición de biomasa aérea en árboles plantados de Pinus patula Schl. et Cham. La biomasa de acículas por rama se estimó con un modelo lineal, que empleó área basal de rama viva, altura de rama y el seccionamiento de copa como variables independientes. La biomasa de los componentes aéreos se estimó con coeficientes de determinación de 0,86; 0,92 y 0,88; para madera con corteza, ramas y acículas, respectivamente. Para madera con corteza se utilizó el diámetro normal (DN) y altura de árbol (AT) en un modelo lineal; la biomasa de ramas y follaje con ecuaciones no lineales que se basaron en el diámetro de copa viva (DCV) y área de copa para ramas; y DCV y AT para la biomasa de follaje. La biomasa total aérea por árbol se estimó con un R2 = 0,87; utilizando DN y AT. La biomasa a una edad de 14 años se distribuyó en 92,9%; 4,7% y 2,4% para madera, ramas y follaje, respectivamente.
Introducción: Los sistemas biométricos forestales constituyen las herramientas analíticas más utilizadas para el análisis de la producción y el crecimiento de los bosques.Objetivo: Presentar un nuevo sistema biométrico para los bosques templados y tropicales de México.Materiales y métodos: El área de estudio comprendió los estados de Chihuahua, Guerrero, Jalisco, Oaxaca, Michoacán, Puebla, Estado de México, Hidalgo, Tlaxcala, Veracruz y Quintana Roo. La toma de datos de campo se realizó mediante muestreo destructivo y no destructivo en cada Unidad de Manejo Forestal Regional (UMAFOR) en los estados. La metodología utilizada permitió generar sistemas de ecuaciones para la estimación de atributos de árboles individuales que son aditivos entre componentes, escalables a nivel de árbol completo y consistentes a lo largo de las diversas condiciones forestales del país.Resultados y discusión: El Sistema Biométrico Forestal “SiBiFor” está integrado por más de 6 000 nuevas ecuaciones para 97 especies arbóreas de los bosques templados y tropicales. SiBiFor contiene 2 917 ecuaciones de volumen, 2 868 de ahusamiento-volumen, 341 de índice de sitio y 288 de crecimiento en diámetro.Conclusión: Las ecuaciones desarrolladas mejorarán el manejo de los ecosistemas forestales del país lo que contribuirá a la sustentabilidad de los mismos.
La predicción del crecimiento y el rendimiento de una especie forestal maderable es un requisito fundamental para planificar su manejo racional. El objetivo de este trabajo fue actualizar las funciones que componen un sistema compatible de crecimiento y rendimiento para Pinus patula, desarrollado bajo el enfoque de modelos explícitos de totalidad del rodal. Se reajustaron los parámetros del sistema mediante la técnica de regresión aparentemente no relacionada. Para ello, se utilizó información dasométrica derivada de cuatro inventarios realizados periódicamente en 42 parcelas permanentes de muestreo de 400 m2 en Hidalgo, México. La estructura de las funciones originales del sistema, en su mayoría, generaron buen ajuste y comportamiento gráfico satisfactorio. La productividad del rodal se describe mediante un patrón polimórfico de crecimiento, el cual está interrelacionado con las ecuaciones de área basal, diámetro promedio y volumen total de fuste por hectárea. La función de mortalidad corresponde a un modelo exponencial ajustado bajo mínimos cuadrados no lineales. El reajuste del sistema permitió ampliar el rango de validez de las ecuaciones de crecimiento a 31 años de edad del rodal. El nuevo sistema sugiere un turno técnico que maximiza el volumen de alrededor de 20 años para el sitio promedio. Este resultado sugiere que el turno de 40 años, actualmente usado en los planes de manejo en la región, puede ser acortado, siempre y cuando la densidad del rodal se maneje correctamente.
