St. Pfau) festzustellen, dass das 61 der Hauptsache nach aus einem Gemisch eines a l i c y c l i s c h e n S e s q u i t e r p e n -K e t o n s C1,H,,O, cias als T u r mer o n bezeichnet wurde und eines a r o m a t i s c h e n K e t o n s C,,HzoO, dem a r -T u rm e r o n besteht. Das sehr veranderliche alicyclische Keton konnte bis jetzt in reinem Zustande nicht isoliert werden, es steht in naher Beziehung zum A t l a n t o n (dieses selbst ist in kleiner Menge im R o h d enthalten). MIrz 1847 zu H e i l s b e r g in Ostpreufien, wo K o p e r n i k u s mehrere Jahre gelebt hat, geboren, und wo sein Vater Rektor und Prediger war.Pastor N i e t z k i war eia-hocbgebildeter Mann mit vielseitigen Kenntnissen und Interessen, so war er z. B. ein guter Botaniker, und von ibm hat sein Sobn die Freude an der scientia amabilis geerbt, SO daB er scton in jungen Jahren seine beimiscbe Flora gut kannte. Spater ging dieser nach Z i n t e n (185A) dort besuchte der Knabe die Burgerschule uod kam dann aufs Gymnasium in K o n i g s b e r g . Doch, wie er uns oft und gern erzlhlte, der ausschliefllich klssfisch-philologische Betrieb eines preuBischen Gymnasiums in jenen Tagen behagte dem zukunftigen Naturforscher garnicht, w e s h l b er zur Realsahule ,,umsattelte". Er besuchte diese bis Unterprima und begann darauf seine Lehrzeit als Apotheker i n Zinten, splter in Kreuzburg, und bestand i. J. 1865 das Examen ah Apothekergehilfe. Berichte d. D. Chem. A Obgleich der groae Berliner Meister seine Privatassistenten tiichtig m m Arbeiten einspanote, fand Nietzki damals doch noch Zeit, seine ersten kleinen selbstandigen Untersuchungen auszufuhren und z u veroffentlichen. Nietzki in der Schwefelsaure-und Sodafabrik von M a t t b e s & W e b e r in Duisburg a10 Analytiker, doch mochte eine derartige Tatigkeit seioem Forschergeiste keineswegs zusagen, und so war er froh, im Jahre 1876 eioe Stelle als Assistent am chemischen Laboratorium der Uoiversitat L e y d e n bei F r a n c h i m o n t und v a n B e m m e l e n zu erhalten. Die drei Jabre, die er in Holland verlcbte, bedeuteten fur ihn eine sehr gluckliche Zeit, hatte er doch neben seinen Obliegzoheiten als Vorlesungs-und Unterrichtsassistent MuBe genug, sich rnit eigenen Untersuchungen zu beschaftigen, und er begann nun gleich rnit grol3em
