The self-medication in Chemistry education: an interdisciplinary proposal to secondary school) Self-medication is a common practice for the Brazilian population, and because of its consequences, it has been treated as a public health problem in Brazil, since it is linked to the various reasons why a person decides to take a drug to reduce symptoms or cure a disease. For chemistry education, it is a social issue that can assist the process of teaching and learning, in addition to forming the student for citizenship. In this work we present three proposals for linking the contents of chemistry with self-medication social issue, based on the methodological proposal of Scientific and Technological Literacy, called Interdisciplinary Island of Rationality. Each proposal presents possibilities for contextualization and association between contents of chemistry and social, economic, cultural and political aspects, as well as other school subjects. In this perspective, the approach of formal content issues with those related to self-medication provides the construction of ideas about the benefits and harms caused by this practice.
