Résumé La régulation des affects peut prendre la forme d’une mise en œuvre de stratégies de coping, ainsi que de stratégies de régulation émotionnelle. Ces formes se recouvrent partiellement, mais différeraient dans les types d’actions qu’elles engendrent et dans les situations qui les amorcent. Cette étude vise à déterminer les liens entre les stratégies de régulation émotionnelle et les stratégies de coping. Cent soixante-treize participants ont complété un questionnaire, incluant, conjointement, des mesures de régulation émotionnelle et de coping. Les résultats montrent des liens variés entre les stratégies de régulation émotionnelle et de coping. La discussion souligne la pertinence de l’évaluation des stratégies de régulation émotionnelle et permet de montrer les effets positifs de la réévaluation cognitive dans le choix d’une stratégie de coping.

In this study, we investigated, for the first time, facial expressions during the retrieval of Self-defining memories (i.e., those vivid and emotionally intense memories of enduring concerns or unresolved conflicts). Participants self-rated the emotional valence of their Self-defining memories and autobiographical retrieval was analyzed with a facial analysis software. This software (Facereader) synthesizes the facial expression information (i.e., cheek, lips, muscles, eyebrow muscles) to describe and categorize facial expressions (i.e., neutral, happy, sad, surprised, angry, scared, and disgusted facial expressions). We found that participants showed more emotional than neutral facial expressions during the retrieval of Self-defining memories. We also found that participants showed more positive than negative facial expressions during the retrieval of Self-defining memories. Interestingly, participants attributed positive valence to the retrieved memories. These findings are the first to demonstrate the consistency between facial expressions and the emotional subjective experience of Self-defining memories. These findings provide valuable physiological information about the emotional experience of the past.

An earlier diagnosis and better overall multidisciplinary care enable people suffering from Cystic Fibrosis (CF) to have a life expectancy of 40. Consequently, new populations and questions about the development of the life of couples have arisen. This study by questionnaires takes a first look at marital adjustment, anxiety, depression, and emotion focused, social support focused, and problem focused coping strategies in 16 CF patients and their partners. As a whole, the couples' marital adjustment level was good; it was higher for men who were patients than men who were partners, and vice versa for women. Anxiety was high for at least one partner in 10 of the couples; depression, for at least one partner in seven of them. The participants seem to use coping strategies to a lesser extent than the general population. The results are discussed in terms of how the quality of life as a couple with one partner suffering from CF is affected by the proper mutual adjustment of the partners.

This study aimed to highlight the individual's motives for accepting the social sharing of emotions of a person as well as the motives perceived by the individual for the other's sharing. The 81 participants first retrieved an actual situation from their memory in which they had listened to a person who had experienced a negative or positive emotional episode and, secondly, they freely described these motives. A semantic categorization showed that the motives for accepting a person's social sharing are mainly the desire to provide the narrator with proof of social links and support; the perceived motives for the other's social sharing are mainly a supposed need to vent and to strengthen social links. The discussion makes suggestions for future studies in the field of emotion communication.
