Tirer profit des résultats obtenus est sans aucun doute déterminant dans tout processus d’apprentissage. Il apparaît que cette capacité métacognitive est en relation étroite avec la nature des attributions, c’est à dire les causes que le sujet évoque pour expliquer ses performances. La présente recherche conduite sur une population de garçons et de filles de 5 ans 6 mois, 7 ans et 10 ans 5 mois confirme pour les tranches d’âge les plus élevés que le développement de métaconnaissances adéquates est largement fonction de ce type de représentations. Elle souligne, par ailleurs, l’intervention de mécanismes de compensation, d’autant plus accentués que l’enfant est jeune et qu’il est un garçon, dans une surestimation des capacités sans rapport avec les résultats réels obtenus et communiqués à l’enfant (feed back).
Malgré une volonté d’objectivité, l’évaluation des élèves en difficulté scolaire est, en partie, influencée par les représentations sociales de la difficulté scolaire que les évaluateurs possèdent. Cette étude vise à analyser ces représentations pour divers acteurs du système éducatif à savoir des élèves, des parents d’élèves, des enseignants et des psychologues scolaires. Les résultats indiquent que la difficulté scolaire se décline sous divers aspects : problèmes liés à la famille, aux pairs, à l’école, caractéristiques personnelles (personnalité, troubles cognitifs, comportements), culture et aide à apporter. Par ailleurs, ces différentes catégories ne se retrouvent pas de manière équivalente en fonction des groupes même si les explications internes sont prédominantes dans les descriptions. Les implications de ces représentations contrastées sont discutées.
