Data analysis used descriptive statistics (simple and percentage rate) and the Relative Frequency of Citation. Results:The research included a total of 54 informants. In total, there were 38 species cited. According to the Relative Frequency of Citation the following species were the most cited: Ocimum basilicum L. Among the symptoms mentioned by the research subjects to treat the acute respiratory infections in childhood, there were: fever; cough; coughing with secretions; sore throat; hoarseness; tiredness; nasal congestion. Conclusions: It is important the knowledge about the usefulness of natural resources as alternative practices in diseases treatment, seeking to rescue popular knowledge used in the traditional community and fomenting the need to consider cultural aspects in the full practice to children´s health care.
The aim of the present study was to investigate the use and storage of medicinal plants in the Arruda quilombo community in the state of Ceará, Brazil. Semi-structured interviews were conducted for the determination of traditional knowledge. The qualitative-quantitative collective subject discourse method was used for the data analysis, focusing the discussion on six categories. The Chi-square test with a 5% level of significance was used to analyze the relationship between the age of the interviewee and the postharvest care of medicinal plants. The majority of the quilombo community (76.19%) cultivates the medicinal plants used. Among this total, 57.14% of the interviewees store the plants in plastic bags and do not establish an expiration date. On health risks, 97.62% of the community members reported medicinal plants are natural and therefore cause no harm. Thus, the population is unaware of the care required for storing medicinal plants or the administration of a safe dose. The statistical analysis revealed that the storage of medicinal plants and ingestion of home-remedy phytotherapeutic medications by pregnant women is not associated with age group.
The objective of this study was to analyze the context of the management of people from traditional quilombola community, in relation to the use of plant species and allopathic drugs used in treatment of pain. Questionnaires were used to determine the socio-demographic profile and the interview-semistructured method with participants adopted. The analysis of data was done by statistics for the sociodemographic variables and the discourse of the collective subject to interpret the contents of the interview. There were 52 residents interviewed, predominantly (67%) by female. Most of the participants have low education level and the main occupational activity is agriculture. In the treatment of pain, herbal teas were considered the preferred method by the participants. Some used allopathic medicines, but attribute to plants the meaning of greater effectiveness in therapy. It has also been noted that informants did not use concomitant drugs and plants because of the fear of poisoning. It is concluded that there is a shortage of studies on the representations and meanings of the preference of inhabitants of traditional localities, considering plant species and industrialized drugs specific for pain, as well as for the treatment of diseases in general. Thus, it is expected that this work will arouse the interest of researchers in studying more about popular knowledge and health management.
