Palavras-chave: composição química, bovinos, degradabilidade in situ, digestibilidade in vitro.ABSTRACT. Nutritional value of soybean hulls, soybean meal, ground corn and wheat meal for cattle. The experiment was divided into three parts: composition analysis of soybean hulls (SH), soybean meal, ground corn and wheat meal; in vitro digestibility of dry matter (IVDDM) and cellular wall (IVDCW) of the feeds mentioned above; in situ degradation of dry matter (ISDDM), organic matter (ISDOM) and gross energy (ISDGE), of milled (MSH) or pelleted (PSH) soybean hulls. Three collections of rumen liquid were undertaken for IVDDM and IVDCW at weekly intervals. Three rumen fistulated cows were utilized for the estimates of ISDDM, ISDOM and ISDGE. Incubation periods were 3, 6, 12, 24, 48 hours, whereas zero time was achieved in the laboratory. Degradation percentages and the percentages of real degradability for dry matter, organic matter and gross energy were reported. Results showed that SH could be used as an alternative food in cattle rations.
Palavras-chave: Cynodon, digestibilidade aparente, DIVMS, fibra em detergente ácido, fibra em detergente neutro, fibra em detergente neutro corrigida para cinza e proteína Feed Intake, Digestibility, Protein and Carbohydrate Fractions of Tifton 85 Hay with Different Harvest AgesABSTRACT -The objectives of this experiment were to determine dry matter intake (DMI), apparent digestibility of dry matter (ADMD), organic matter (ADOM), neutral detergent fiber (ADNDF), in vitro DM digestibility (IVDMD) and protein and carbohydrate fractions of Bermuda grass hay harvested at 21, 42, 63 and 84 days. The experimental design used to estimate the feed intake and the apparent digestibility was a 4 x 4 Latin square and to evaluate age effect was used regression analysis. Dry matter intake (DMI) and apparent digestibility of DM, OM, CP and NDF showed a negative linear response for harvest age. Results for in vitro DM digestibility (IVDMD) were similar to apparent digestibility. Protein and the carbohydrate C fractions increased with harvest age and average values ranged from 17.4 to 22.8 and 10.9 to 14.3%, respectively. B3 protein fraction increased with harvest age and B2 fraction showed little variation with harvest age. A and B1 carbohydrate fractions decreased with harvest age. Results for DMI were 2.4, 2.2, 2.1 and 1.1% and for IVDMD were 60.5, 58.8, 56.3 and 53.8% for the 28, 42, 63 and 84 days of harvest age, respectively.Key Words: apparent digestibility, Cynodon, acid detergent fiber, neutral detergent fiber, neutral detergent fiber corrected for ash and protein, IVDMD IntroduçãoUsualmente, a baixa produção e a redução na qualidade da forragem, apre...
In this experiment, intake of DK265 3-way corn hybrid by dairy cattle was compared specifically with intake 1) of its bm3 isogenic form, 2) of its 2 related single-way hybrids, and 3) of 2 controls that were registered hybrids of similar earliness. Both dry matter (DM) and lignin contents were similar in all hybrids except for the bm3 hybrid, which was less lignified. There was a tendency for lower starch content and, correlatively, higher neutral detergent fiber content in DK265 and in the 2 related single-way hybrids. Significant intake differences were observed between hybrids; the highest intake was recorded for the bm3 hybrid. Among normal hybrids, DK265 and one of its related single-way hybrids registered significantly higher intakes than other hybrids. Among normal hybrids, cell wall digestibility and/or lignin content did not explain all of the variations observed for intake, whereas the higher intake of DK265 bm3 could be related to its lower lignin content as compared with isogenic DK265. It was hypothesized that the higher intake observed for the DK265 hybrid was probably related to specific friability traits that are not relevantly measured through the usual tests used in corn breeding.
Cynodon production and nutritive value at different harvesting ages through year seasons. The aim of this experiment was to estimate production, leaf/stem ratio and nutritive value (NV) of three Cynodon gender cultivars (Coastcross, Tifton 44 and Tifton 85), harvested at 21, 42 and 63 days, during spring and summer; 42, 63 and 84 days during fall; 63 and 84 days during winter. The experimental design was split splot, with three replications. Age harvest was evaluated by regression and the models were chosen based on identity analysis. Older harvest age increased (P<0.05) dry matter (DM) production, neutral detergent fiber (NDF) and acid detergent fiber (ADF), for all seasons. Leaf/stem ratio (L/S), crude protein (CP), metabolizable energy (ME) estimated, dry matter in vitro digestibility (DMIVD) and organic matter in vitro digestibility (OMIVD) were negatively affected (p <0.05). However, L/S and CP were not affected (P>0.05) by increasing forage harvest age in winter. Independently of the season, all cultivars showed similar production and NV. Considering the results for chemical composition and ME estimated, older harvest ages (63 and 84 days) are not recommended, because there was a NV decrease for all cultivars, harvest ages between 21 and 42 days being thus recommended.
This two-year study evaluated the effect of Pennisetum purpureum genotypes under rainfed or irrigated conditions, during the dry and rainy seasons, on herbage, leaf, and stem dry matter (DM) accumulation rates, nutritive value, and carbohydrate and protein fractionation. Treatments were tall (Iri 381 and Elefante B) or dwarf (Mott and Taiwan A-146 2.37) genotypes under rainfed or irrigated conditions. Taiwan A-146 2.37 (146 kg DM ha per day) showed similar herbage accumulation rate (HAR) to tall genotypes during the rainy season (124 and 150 kg DM/ha per day, respectively). Dwarf genotypes showed differences in leaf accumulation rate (LAR) (66 and 49 kg DM/ha per day). Mott leaf had less neutral detergent fiber (NDF) (589 g/kg DM) than Taiwan A-146 2.37 (598 g/kg DM), and tall genotypes had generally greater NDF (668 g/kg DM) than the dwarf genotypes. Irrigation increased fiber deposition in the leaf. Stems of all genotypes had lower in vitro digestible dry matter (IVDDM) (378 g/kg DM) under rainfed conditions in the rainy season. Leaf from irrigated plots had 23% more carbohydrate C fraction (160 g/kg CHO) than those from rainfed plots (122 g/kg CHO). Dwarf genotypes had generally greater nutritive value than tall genotypes. These genotypes show promise under irrigation to fill forage gaps during dry periods.
Dehydration of Cynodon grass cultivars during haymaking. Dehydration of cultivars of the genus Cynodon (Poaceae) and the possible variations of chemical composition of forages during the haymaking process were evaluated. Three cultivars of Cynodon, Tifton 85, Coast cross and Tifton 44 were used, in plots of 15 m 2 , with three randomized blocks. Samples at 0 (cutting time), 3, 6, 21, 24, 27 and 30 hours after cutting were taken to determine the dehydration curve of whole plant, leaves and stem. Speed in water loss in plant, leaves and stem segments was similar in all cultivars. Drying did not affect CP taxes. There was, however, a difference for the leaves/stem relationship in which Tifton 85 had the highest value. Tifton 44 was higher in the other cultivars with regard to stem diameter.
ABSTRACT. Determination of protein and carbohydrate fractions of Cynodon grasses in different cut age. Three Cynodon grasses (Poaceae) (Tifton 85, Tifton 44 and Coast-cross) harvested at ages 21, 42 and 63 days in the summer were evaluated for protein and carbohydrate fractions composition. Crude protein was divided into 5 fractions: A (non-protein nitrogen), B 1 (soluble protein with fast rumen degradability), B 2 (insoluble protein with intermediate rumen degradability), B 3 (insoluble protein with slow rumen degradability) and C (indigestible protein). Carbohydrates were divided into 3 fractions: A + B 1 (fast and intermediate rumen digestibility), B2 (slow rumen digestibility) and C (indigestible fiber). Experimental design consisted of a split-plot (grasses as plots and cut age as sub-plots) with three repetitions. Cut age was analyzed by regression and models were chosen on the analysis of identity. There were no differences (p> 0,05) among grasses with regard to protein and carbohydrate fractions composition. C fraction of protein showed linear increase (p< 0.05) with cut age, ranging from 22.77 to 25.79%. A + B 1 fraction decreased (p< 0.05) from 16.27 to 7.03% and B 2 and C fractions increased (p< 0.05) from 76.86 to 79.42% and 6.83 to 13.55%, respectively, between cuts at 21 and 63 days old.
