RESUMO.Os principais fatores que afetam as características físico-químicas e microbiológicas do leite in natura estão relacionados aos cuidados zootécnicos e a obtenção e armazenagem adequadas do produto em propriedades rurais. Neste trabalho, abordam-se os principais aspectos que interferem na composição do leite, especialmente aqueles associados à alimentação das fêmeas em lactação. Os critérios de higiene e manejo dos animais durante a ordenha são enfocados, à luz da relação que apresentam, com a prevenção de mastites e a qualidade do leite. Destaca-se a importância do resfriamento do produto recém-ordenhado, bem como a necessidade de modernização do atual sistema de transporte do leite, desde o produtor até as usinas de beneficiamento, como instrumentos fundamentais para garantir a qualidade do leite de consumo e dos produtos lácteos. A case of Equine Protozoal Myeloencephalitis caused by Sarcocystis neurona, was treated at the Veterinary Hospital of the Federal University of Lavras-MG. Among the neurological disorders in horses EPM is one of the most frequent and major economic losses in equideocultura. The animal in question showed symptoms acutely, with decubitus, reduction of superficial and deep skin sensitivity, loss of tail tone, facial nerve injury and urinary incontinence. The diagnosis was based on clinical symptoms, necropsy and the protozoan associated to the microscopic lesions. The treatment used was diclazuril corticoideterapia and treatment support.
The aim of the study was to describe location, sonographic characteristics and measures of the stomach and small intestine of equines at different ages. Abdominal ultrasonography was performed on 88 healthy equines of either sex, aged 1, 7 and 15 days, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11 months and 1, 3 and 5 years, with 20 animals per group. Location, characteristics and measurements of stomach, duodenum and jejunum were evaluated. Descriptive statistics were performed for each measurement and the percentile for each age was analyzed. The work showed the growth and characteristics of the organs evaluated over time. Adult animals showed a minimum of 4 duodenal movements per minute. It was possible to locate the organs evaluated in all animals. The detailed ultrasound examination of these organs allowed gathering information that could be used to assist in the care of future patients.
ResumoForam atendidos quatro casos de furunculose bacteriana, causados pelo agente Streptococcus spp., em equinos de um centro de equoterapia no município de Lavras MG. Micro-organismos do gênero Streptococcus não são agentes usuais deste tipo de afecção. As lesões se apresentavam circunscritas, alopécicas, nodulares, crostosas, dolorosas e não pruriginosas. O diagnóstico se baseou na apresentação clínica e na cultura de secreções coletadas das lesões cutâneas. Antibioticoterapia sistêmica e pomadas tópicas foram utilizados no tratamento, levando à resolução dos casos em vinte dias.Palavras-chave: Streptococcus spp., dermatologia, infecções bacterianas, pele. AbstractWe report four cases of bacterial furunculosis caused by Streptococcus spp. in horses located in a therapeutic riding center in Lavras-MG. Microorganisms of the Streptococcus genus are not usual agents of this affection. The lesions were circumscribed, alopecic, nodular, some showed crosts, were painful and not itchy. The diagnosis was based on clinical presentation and culture of secretions collected from these lesions. Treatment consisted of systemic antibiotics and topical ointments, leading to resolution in twenty days.Keywords: Streptococcus spp., dermatology, bacterial infections, skin. IntroduçãoAfecções dermatológicas, bastante comuns em caninos e felinos, são também frequentes na espécie equina (SCOTT; MILLER, 2003). A pele é uma barreira anatômica entre o animal e o meio ambiente, composta por defesas físicas, químicas e biológicas, sendo formada por pelos, que protegem contra o contato com agentes patógenos com a pele; extrato córneo; sebo; suor e por uma microbiota bacteriana. As dermatopatias em equinos, além de ocasionarem perdas econômicas devido ao custo do tratamento, acarretam uma aparência desagradável, dificultando inclusive o transporte e a participação dos animais em exposições e demais eventos equestres (RADOSTITS et al., 2002).Entende-se por piodermite qualquer condição infecciosa de origem bacteriana, por agentes piogênicos, que atinge a pele. A foliculite é definida como uma infecção superficial do folículo piloso, que se manifesta por pápulas e pústulas com base eritematosa. Já a furunculose consiste na evolução de uma foliculite, quando a inflamação atinge a derme e/ou o subcutâneo, caracterizando-se principalmente por nódulos, crostas e úlceras (SCOTT; MILLER, 2003), como é o caso do relato abaixo.Os processos infecciosos na pele podem se manifestar de duas formas distintas: como um processo cutâneo primário ou como manifestação secundária de uma afecção em outros sistemas.
