Objective: To analyze training in integrated health care for the elderly from the perspective of nursing students. Method: A descriptive and exploratory study with a qualitative approach was carried out using the action research method with the participation of 24 nursing students from a university center in Piauí, Brazil. Data were obtained through semi-structured interviews and submitted to content analysis. Results: Two thematic categories emerged: Perspectives on aging, violence and sexuality and A holistic approach to the elderly: integrating training and care. Conclusion: The perspective of the students on integrated care for the elderly is fragmented, stemming from the limitations of the training process for such care.
Objective: To develop and evaluate a prototype for mobile device with guidelines for caregivers of the elderly.Methodology: Methodological research applied, technological production, descriptive and exploratory, with a quantitative approach performed in Private Higher Education Institution. Study collaborators were composed by a committee of experts, they are professionals of information technology (IT) and Nurse teachers. The study was developed in three stages: (I) Analysis of the scientific literature, (II) development of mobile application, (III) Evaluation of the prototype application. The project was submitted to the Ethics and Research Committee, where it was approved under the number of 2,723,146.Results: Quality characteristics were evaluated from a software: functionality, usability, reliability, efficiency, maintainability and portability. All the content addressed in the prototype application was evaluated by the committee of experts, where he obtained an average of 4.6, being considered suitable for validationConclusion: We found that the construction of a prototype application to assist the caregivers of elderly promotes the possibility of solving a difficulty found in a simple and dynamic.
Management and facilitation of care transitions from hospital to alternative settings requires skill and attention to avoid adverse events. Several interprofessional organizations and nurse leaders have called for the expansion and redesign of undergraduate nursing curricula to include care transitions. Yet there is little evidence describing how undergraduate baccalaureate nursing students are educated on this critical topic or how successful they are in improving student knowledge about care transitions. To address this gap, an in-classroom and clinical experience was implemented to prepare students to manage and facilitate care transitions from the hospital to alternative settings-including the home. Perceptions of undergraduate nursing students and home healthcare nurse preceptors were assessed via an electronic survey that was emailed to participants. Forty-eight responses to the survey were received. Students agreed this experience contributed to their understanding of caring for adults and older adults who are experiencing a care transition and they had a good understanding of care transitions to apply to their future nursing courses. Home healthcare nurse preceptors agreed they were able to demonstrate transitional care and that students were engaged. Future work should include expanding transitional care immersion to other care settings as well as the inclusion of additional healthcare disciplines in care transition education.
