The starting point of this contribution is the concept of "sense", which derives from the Charles S. Peirce's semiotic view: "Our idea of anything is our idea of its sensible effects" (Peirce, CP 5.401). For Peirce, the meaning -or sense -of any sign (text, artifact, system)
Palavras-chave: cal hidratada, cal virgem, Saccharum officinarum L., tratamento químico, valor nutritivo Hydrolysis of cane sugar with lime or hydrated limeABSTRACT -The objective of the present work was to evaluate the effect of the alkaline treatment of sugarcane with virgin lime or hydrated lime on the bromatologic composition and in vitro digestibility of dry matter, neutral detergent fiber, and acid detergent fiber. It was used a complete random design with a 3 × 3 factorial scheme composed by three forms of of sugarcane processing (in natura sugarcane; hydrolyzed sugarcane with 0.5% virgin lime; and hydrolyzed sugarcane with 0.5% hydrated lime) and three storage times (12, 36 and 60 hours). The forms of processing changed the contents of organic matter, mineral matter, total carbohydrates, and hemicellulose as well as the contents of neutral detergent fiber and total digestible nutrients. Times of storage changed contents of crude protein, organic matter, total carbohydrates and hemicellulose. Among the minerals, only content of calcium showed an increase for the sugarcane processing forms.Coeficients of digestibility of dry matter and neutral detergent fiber increased with hydrolises of sugar cane when compared to in natura sugarcane. Hydrolisis with hydrated lime or with virgin lime keeps the nutrional value of sugarcane making its use possible up to 60 hours after storage. Palavras-chave: aditivos, análise multivariada, fermentação, inoculante bacteriano, silagem Calcium oxide and Lactobacillus buchneri NCIMB 40788 in the ensiling of in natura or burned sugar cane ABSTRACT -The objective of this trial was to evaluate the effects of the inclusion of calcium oxide (CaO) and/or L. buchneri (LB) on the losses and chemical composition changes of in natura and burned sugar cane silages. Silage treatments were:in natura sugar cane without additive (IS), with Lactobacillus buchneri (ISLB), with calcium oxide (ISCaO) equivalent to 1% of natural matter, and the combination of LB and CaO (ISLBCaO). Experimental design was completely randomized in a factorial scheme (2 × 4) considering status (burned or not) and additives (LB, CaO and LB+CaO) with three replications per treatment. Dry matter variation was lower for in natura and burned silages treated with CaO; regardless of the LB presence, the mean difference was 5.85 percentage units. In sugar cane silages without additives, higher dry matter recoveries were observed when the plant was ensiled with in natura silage (63.5%) compared with burned silage (46.8%). However, when additives (CaO and LB) were used, no significant differences occurred between the in natura and burned silage treatments. The presence of calcium oxide was the factor that provided the greatest discrimination among the data. Calcium oxide is effective in reducing losses and chemical changes on the in natura and burned silages. The L. buchneri acts effectively ...
Palavras-chave: aveia-preta, forrageira de inverno, produção de MS, relação lâmina foliar/caule + bainha, triticale in June showed higher leaf blade/stem + sheath ratio, due to the initial stage when plants were submitted to the first evaluation.Despite the higher contribution of inflorescences, triticale species presented a higher leaf blade/stem + sheath ratio, however with no significant difference among treatments. The best planting time for triticale is April, while that for the Black-oat, May/June, both under the cutting system.
This study aimed to evaluate the effects of inclusion of crambe bran concentrations (Crambe abyssinica Hochst.) with different specific masses in elephant grass silage (Penninsetum purpureum Schum.). For that, the bromatological and microbiological compositions of the experimental silages were determined. We used 48 mini silos distributed in a completely randomized design, arranged in a factorial 4 × 3, four levels of inclusion of crambe bran (0; 10; 20 and 30%) and three specific masses (400; 500 and 600 kg MN m-3), with four replications. After 240 days of fermentation the silos were opened. It was observed linear effect on DM, CP, NDFap, ADFap, HEM, LIG, NFC, TC and population of bacteria that produce lactic acid with the addition of crambe meal. There was interaction between the crambe bran factors and specific masses on the values of pH and N-NH3. For MM variables and yeast count there was a negative linear effect due to the evaluated specific mass. The inclusion of crambe bran helps to increase the fermentative profile and the bromatological composition of elephant grass silages studied, and the best results were obtained with the addition of 30% of this coproduct, based on the natural matter.

The use of nitrogen fertilization in tropical grasslands is a strategy that may reduce the pressure of livestock production on biome areas with humid forests. The objective of this study was to assess the use of different doses of nitrogen in Guinea grass (Megathyrsus maximus (Jacq.) con. Mombasa) cultivated in the humid tropics. Doses of 0, 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50 kg of N ha−1 application−1 were applied during two consecutive years in experimental plots. The experimental area is located in the northeast of Pará, Brazil, with a predominantly tropical climate according to the Köppen classification. The morphogenic, production, and qualitative characteristics of the forage were evaluated. The morphogenic variables, rate of leaf appearance and rate of leaf elongation, in addition to daily accumulation of forage and crude protein content, increased with increasing doses of nitrogen. The morphological structure of the pasture was not modified. The number of cuts increased, whereas the number of days of recovery decreased, in the rainy season with increasing doses of nitrogen. The use of nitrogen fertilization does not alter the structure of the pasture; however, it improves the morphogenic, production, and chemical characteristics of Guinea grass.
