Abstrak: Gosip merupakan fenomena sehari-hari yang sering terabaikan dalam pengkajian ilmiah. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis perilaku gosip dalam film Tilik menggunakan teori psikologi evolusi Self-Concept Enhancing Tactician (SCENT) model. Teori model SCENT menjelaskan bahwa seseorang mencari dan mengevaluasi rumor dengan tiga tujuan yaitu pengembangan diri, promosi diri dan perlindungan diri. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif interpretatif (Denzin) untuk menjelaskan dinamika fungsi gosip dalam film Tilik. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pelaku gosip negatif menggunakan gosip sebagai promosi dan perlindungan diri. Promosi diri para pelaku gosip melibatkan emosi bangga sementara itu fungsi perlindungan diri melibatkan emosi takut. Hasil penelitian ini menambah wawasan bagaimana fungsi gosip di masyarakat.Kata Kunci: Gosip, SCENT Model, pengembangan diri, promosi diri, perlindungan diri, Tilik, Denzin Abstract: Gossip is a daily phenomenon but largely neglected in the scientific literature. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the dynamics of gosip activities in the Tilik short movie. The theory used is the Self-Concept Enhancing Tactician (SCENT) model, it shows that a person is looking for information and evaluating that information with three objectives: self-empowerment, self-promotion, and self-protection. The method used in this study was interpretative qualitative approach (Denzin) to explain the function of gosip in Tilik movie. The results of this study indicate that gosip has two prominent functions: self-promotion and self-protection. Self-promotion involves the emotion of pride and self-protection involves the emotion of fear. This study examined how Javanese students perceive academic failure in their life from an indigenous psychology perspective. The perspective intends to give a contextual understanding that is rarely found. This research uses qualitative method with an open-ended questionnaire to carry out a deep understanding of respondent's own experiences. The asked question was ‘What is the influence of academic failure in your life today?’ The participants of this study are 80 undergraduate Javanese students who are studying in Yogyakarta by the time of data collection. The age range of the participants is 18-22 years old. Then, the obtained multiple responds data are analyzed using thematic content analysis. The categorized data is analyzed using cross-tabulations. The finding of this study shows that students reported academic failure as lesson-learned (41.4%), self-development (35.3%), negative emotion (7.07%), burdensome (6.06%), regretful (5.05%), and others which consisted of shy, material benefit, parents’ disappointment, got some friends (5.05%).
Indonesia is a collectivist country that adopts their traditional law called adat as part of their system besides constitution and Islamic law. Adat has sets of rules for marriage and much of the time, Indonesian are confirmed to the rule. But the survey shows that there is evidence of a woman who decided not to get married despite adat rules. Thus, this study explores the reason women who decided to not marry using a phenomenological approach to capture their experience leads to the decision. The study found that family is the main reason for their decision. They experience their parents' divorce and demanding family whose follow adat rule and suppress them to marry. Therefore, both participants decided marriage is not for everyone and not the only source of happiness.
