a b s t r a c tObjective: To determine possible changes in serum concentrations of pro-and anti-inflammatory cytokines of eutrophic rats subjected to aerobic or resistance physical training. Methods: This study examined serum concentrations of TNF-␣, IFN-␥, IL-6, IL-10 and IL-1-␤ in rats that performed aerobic or resistance training for 16 weeks. Thirty-five Wistar rats (male adult) were divided into three groups: Control Group (CG), Aerobic Group (AG) and Resistance Group (RG). Rats were sacrificed 48 h after the final training session. Serum concentrations of cytokines were analysed by ELISA. Results: TNF-␣ levels were higher in the RG, followed by the AG and CG groups (p < 0.001). IFN-␥ and IL-10 levels were not significantly different between groups (p = 0.097 and p = 0.17, respectively). The levels of IL6 and IL1-␤ were higher in AG compared to RG and CG (p = 0.0004 and p = 0.003, respectively). In general, our results indicate a higher pro-inflammatory profile in AG and probably RG animals. Conclusion: Further studies are required in order to better clarify the effects of aerobic and resistance exercise training on pro-and anti-inflammatory cytokines. Additionally, future studies should address the metabolic and molecular pathways involved in these responses.

In the present study, we associated a high-fat diet (HF group: 45% kcal from lipids) or very high-fat (VHF group: 60% kcal from lipids) diet with a fructose drink (10% fructose) for hydration. Normal rat chow that received the control diet (content 16.3% kcal from lipid-AIN93G) and water. The treatments were introduced soon after weaning and were administered for 70 days. We aimed to compare HF and VHF groups and find which acts as a better model mimicking human obesity. Body mass gain, final body weight, adipocyte area in inguinal depots, visceral and subcutaneous adipose depots, serum triacylglycerol, and VLDL-c were all higher in the HF group, followed by the VHF group, compared to the C group. Only the HF group showed hyperinsulinemia and hyperleptinemia and higher total caloric intake, Lee index, HOMA2-IR, and total cholesterol. Serum TNFα and IL-6 levels were lower in the HF and VHF groups than in the C group at the end for 70 days. In Summary, the HF (45%) diet administered with fructose induced a higher similarity of metabolic and hormonal alterations associated with human obesity. Practical applicationsHigh intake of lipids with sugary drinks has been associated with obesity and its comorbidities. Although a diet with 45% or 60% of lipids is considered hyperlipidic, they are different in their effects on eating behavior and also probably from a metabolic point of view. Common sense is that the reduction in intake of lipids is favorable to health. Our study shows that this is not wholly true, and this information contributes to the guidelines for the treatment of obesity. In addition, the scientific literature on the subject has shown the most diverse results and also the use of experimental models with few similarities with human obesity. Our findings can contribute as a good model of obesity initiated during childhood to investigate possible using nutritional strategies, or the adoption of ergogenic nutritional resources in future studies, for example. O desperdício de alimentos é um problema mundial, haja visto que um terço dos alimentos destinados ao consumo são desperdiçados, trazendo consigo importantes impactos sociais e econômicos, O presente estudo teve como objetivo avaliar o índice de resto-ingesta, sobras limpas e sobra descartada do almoço da Unidade de Alimentação e Nutrição do restaurante comunitário da Fundação de Ensino Superior de Passos da Universidade do Estado de Minas Gerais. Metodologia: estudo observacional com abordagem quantitativa por 30 dias. O peso das preparações produzidas, da sobra limpa e sobra descartada e de resto ingesta, foram levantados com o uso de uma balança digital descontando-se os pesos dos recipientes. Resultados:  resto ingesta 3,1%; sobras limpas 32,52%; ambiente, sabor (ótimo ou bom) 98,6%; 95,6% respectivamente; aparência dos alimentos ótimo 65,0% e bom 27,35%; temperatura dos alimentos (ótimo ou bom) 82,5% mesmo com o valor satisfatório nessa variável houve um percentual regular e ruim de 15,5%; variedade dos alimentos (ótimo ou bom) 89,5%. Conclusão: o resto ingesta dos comensais apresenta valores satisfatórios, a unidade apresenta um elevado índice de desperdício, principalmente de sobras limpas, dessa forma, faz-se necessário investir em capacitação dos colaboradores, adequação do cardápio, quantidades de produção, entre outras medidas que visem reduzir o desperdício de alimentos.

These results justify its anecdotal usage as a tonic, show that the hydroethanolic maceration of the root does not cause toxicity, and provide scientific evidence of its potential as a source of new adaptogenic substance(s).

Adequate nutrition is extremely important to provide energy and nutrients for physical exercise and recovery of muscle damage. Crossfit® is a strength and conditioning program and the exercises are performed rapidly, repetitively in a high intensity with little or no recovery time between sets. PURPOSE: This study aimed to verify the nutritional intake as calories and macronutrients (protein, carbohydrate, fat) in Crossfit® practitioners using traditional dietary assessment methods. METHODS: Twelve male recreational Crossfit® practitioners (Mean ± SE: age 30.2 ± 5.5 years old/ body mass 80.8 ± 10.8 kg) were recruited to participate in this study. Dietary data were collected by self-reported 6 days intake record. They could choose 4 middle of weekdays and 2 weekends days for 20 days. These records were writing by which one and analyzed using nutrition software. RESULTS:The data are presented as Mean, SE, and %. Average daily intake was 2.561,9 ± 539,3 kcal/day, corresponding 31,7 ± 7,36 kcal.kg -1 .d -1 . The intake of protein was 118,9 ± 34g/day (18,9% of total daily energy intake) and 1,5 ± 0,5g.kg -1 .d -1 ; carbohydrate 296,7 ± 78,1g/d (47,4% of total daily energy intake) and 3,5 ± 1,2g.kg -1 .d -1 and fat 95,7 ± 21,7g/d (33,7% of total daily energy intake). According to the intake recommendations, 100% (12 participants) reported lower energy intake daily, 83% (10 participants) carbohydrates, 41,6% (5 participants) protein. They reported were consuming sufficient (75% -9 participants) or more (25% -3 participants) fat daily. CONCLUSION: In our study, the daily diet of the Crossfit® practitioners indicates a lower intake of important nutrients that could lead to a risk of nutritional irregularities over longer periods. The daily energy intake and carbohydrate content were lower compared to recommendations. Also, we identified the importance of educating athletes and coaches about nutrition, the individual needs, and the energy and nutrients required for a good performance and to decrease the risks of injury.
