Purpose
This paper aims to demonstrate how customer knowledge management (CKM) can assist destination management organizations (DMOs) in the smart management of the tourist experience to contribute to the creation of smart solutions and the promotion of smart tourism destinations (STDs). To accomplish it, a CKM conceptual framework aligned with smart tourism and composed of eight processes is developed to guide managers in this management.
Design/methodology/approach
This research adopts the design science research methodology and applies its steps. It was supported by a systematic integrative literature review on CKM models and frameworks and their main elements, as well as by semi-structured interviews with tourism specialists in the context of Santa Catarina, Brazil.
Findings
From the literature it appears that tourist experiences are customer knowledge essential to the improvement and innovation of tourism products and services, and that CKM, still little explored in this scenario, tends to contribute to the management of this crucial knowledge for smart tourism. The analyses and improvements to the structure developed by specialists show its applicability and contributions to the management of STD experiences.
Originality/value
This paper offers an original contribution to the integration of the theoretical constructs of CKM, tourist experience and STDs by showing how the CKM, from tourism experiences, technologies and social networks, can assist DMOs in the management of experiences and promotion of STDs.
The pollution generated by cemeteries and their overload are increasingly worrisome issues in current society, and yet there are few studies seeking to discuss and generate solutions in this field to provide better lives to the population. Thus, this research has aimed to develop a new concept of a cremation service called "Mobile Crematorium", aiming at innovation and an alternative for reducing impacts caused by cemeteries. Hence, a new model of service development was used, jointly with bibliographic research, semi-structured interviews with entrepreneurs and questionnaires answered by the population to collect essential information. Thus, requirements, needs and specifications of the clients and the service were developed, jointly with an analysis, simulation and selection of alternative solutions generated that allowed the creation of the new concept. Finally, the service process was modelled on the "Service Blueprint", allowing visualization and identification of possible process failures and improvements thereon.
This paper analyses the Customer Knowledge Management (CKM) conceptual structures existing within the literature, to identify its current state of research and extract from it, important elements that enable the construction of a CKM framework. To accomplish this, a six-step systematic literature review was performed, thus selecting 27 articles with CKM structures, which were fully inspected by using Thematic Analysis at the end. As main results, this study displays a detailed synthesis of the main elements for CKM and exposes a CKM framework composed of four dimensions, namely, Planning, Acquisition, Intelligence and Value Generation. Each dimension comprises specific processes and activities that can assist CKM managers and researchers in managing, collecting, analysing, storing, and sharing the customer knowledge. Finally, this research also presents a set of tools, methods and techniques that can be used in each of the framework processes.
