Index terms: Digitaria ciliaris, Glycine max, Oryza sativa, interference.
Palavras-chave: características morfofisiológicas, competição, interferência, plantas daninhas.ABSTRACT -The objective of this study was to compare the relative competitive abilities between two rice cultivars and a red rice biotype. Greenhouse experiments were carried out at the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul, in the 2001/2002 growing season, in a completely randomized design, with four replications. The treatments were arranged in a replacement series assay, with five plant proportions of rice cultivars and competitor biotype being established: 100:0; 75:25; 50:50; 25:75 and 0:100, respectively. Rice was represented by the cultivars IRGA 417 and EEA 406, and the competitors by a red rice genotype as well as by EEA 406 cultivar, mimicking red rice. Competitive analysis was accomplished through diagrams usually applied to replacement series studies, plus use of relative competitive indices. The plant variables evaluated were: tillering, plant height, leaf area, and shoot dry mass. Red rice negatively modified plant tillering, plant height, leaf area, and shoot dry mass of both rice cultivars, proving superior competitive ability. The rice cultivars IRGA 417 and EEA 406 did not change their morpho-physiological plant characteristics when in association with each other, regardless of plant proportions among them, presenting equivalent competitive abilities.
Palavras-chave: convivência, controle, interferência, produtividade. coexistence and/or control were: 0, 7, 14, 21, 28, 35, 42 and 126 ABSTRACT -Several factors limit wheat crop yield, with competition imposed by weed plants being the most outstanding. Palavras-chave: competição, interferência mútua, série de substituição.ABSTRACT -Replacement series experiments make possible the study of inter and intraspecific competition, based on the fact that the yield of the species under competition can be determined by comparing with plants in monoculture. The objective of this work was to investigate the relative competitive ability of wheat crop with the weeds Italian ryegrass or wild radish. Three experiments were conducted under greenhouse at UFPel, in 2006. The treatments were conducted in a completely randomized design, with four replications, with the treatments arranged in replacement series. The proportions of wheat plants and competitors Italian ryegrass or wild radish were: 100/0, 75/ 25, 50/50, 25/75 and 0/100, always with a total population of 900 plants m -2 . Competitiveness statistical analysis consisted in applying diagrams to the replacement series and interpreting the competitiveness indices. The competitive relationships between wheat and ryegrass or between wheat and wild radish plants are altered by the proportion of plants that compose the association. Wheat shows superior competitive ability to ryegrass but inferior to wild radish when the species have similar proportions of plants in the associations and when these species occur in the same ecological niche.
-The use of herbicides, even in tolerant crops, can cause stress evidenced by increase phytotoxicity affecting growth and development. The objectives of this study were to evaluate herbicides effect from different mechanisms of action in photosynthetic and oxidative stress parameters, as well visual phytotoxicity and wild radish control in wheat crop, cultivar Quartzo. Two trials were conducted where the first one evaluated the photosynthetic parameters on wheat plants in two seasons collection, following the application of herbicides bentazon, clodinafop, iodosulfuron, metribuzin, metsulfuron and 2,4-D; and the second one evaluated wild radish (Raphanus sativus) control, wheat phytotoxicity and yield due to bentazon, iodosulfuron, metribuzin, metsulfuron and 2,4-D herbicides application. Photosynthetic rate, stomatal conductance and transpiration were negatively affected by metribuzin, metsulfuron and 2,4-D herbicides at 24 and 120 HAS (hours after spraying) compared to control. Oxidative stress was similar or lower to control, when herbicide was applied and, in general, there was no difference between application times. Lipid peroxidation, catalase activity and phenols were higher in the first collection time. The application of herbicides iodosulfuron and 2,4-D reduces chlorophylls and carotenoids in wheat. Herbicides bentazon, iodosulfuron, metribuzin, metsulfuron and 2,4-D are selective to wheat, cultivar Quartzo and do not affect wheat yield. 2,4-D, metribuzin and iodosulfuron are more efficient for wild radish control. Palavras-chave: canal São Gonçalo, Rio Piratini, herbicidas, inseticidas, qualidade da água Monitoring of pesticides in two water sources in southern Brazil ABSTRACTThe objective of this study was to evaluate and to monitor the presence of pesticides in the waters of the São Gonçalo channel and the Piratini river located in the southern region of the State of Rio Grande do Sul. During the rice growing season, water samples were collected five times, three samples from the river Piratini and four from the São Gonçalo canal. The methodology used for the analysis of residues of quinclorac, carbofuran and clomazone was the High Performance Liquid Chromatography with Diode Array Detection (HPLC-DAD) and for residues of the pesticides fipronil and betacyfluthrin, the Gas Chromatography with Electron Capture Detection (GC-ECD) was used. Results show that from sowing to harvesting the quantity of pesticide residues in water decreased. It was also observed that, at the lowest point (Laranjal), a greater number of analyses contaminated with residues was detected (11 samples with some type of pesticide). Insecticide carbofuran and herbicide quinclorac were pesticides that presented residues more frequently (16 and 15 times, respectively). Clomazone and fipronil were present in each of the 7 samples with residues and betacyfluthrin was not detected at any site.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the degree of interference and determine the economic weed threshold of populations of barnyardgrass in irrigated rice, according to crop arrangement. Thus, an experiment was carried out under field conditions with rice crop, under the conventional system. The treatments consisted of three arrangements of rice plants, one cultivar BRS Pelota (17 and 32 cm, hand sown) and nine populations of the competitor barnyardgrass present in each sowing method. The rectangular hyperbolic nonlinear regression model appropriately estimates rice productivity losses in the presence of barnyardgrass plants. Manually sown rice crop shows greater competitive ability against barnyardgrass in relation to the 17 and 32 cm spacings. The variable leaf area fits better to the hyperbolic model, compared to the variables plant population, shoot dry weight and soil covering. Sowing the crop by hand increases the economic weed threshold, justifying the adoption of measures to control barnyardgrass at higher population levels. Increased grain yield, rice price, herbicide efficiency and control cost reduction decrease the economic weed threshold values, justifying the adoption of control measures in low populations of barnyardgrass.
