Postharvest and fruit production of cape gooseberry in Minas Gerais State, BrazilPhysalis sp., is a genus of plant popularly known as cape gooseberry. The enlarged calyx that surrounds and protects the fruit against herbivores and weather characterizes the genus, which contains over than one hundred species belonging to the Solanaceae family. The bittersweet fruits are widely used in cooking, and can also be processed into jellies, jams and liqueurs, or consumed raw. The fruits present high content of vitamin C and antioxidants, and therefore, contain numerous medicinal properties. This study aimed to evaluate the productivity of cape gooseberry in southern Minas Gerais State, and to observe the aspects of its postharvest. The experiments related to the productivity were installed at the Experimental Farm of EPAMIG, in Maria da Fé, Minas Gerais State, Brazil, while other experiments on postharvest were carried out in the Laboratory of Food Technology of UNIOESTE. O cv. 'Cabernet Franc' apresentou melhor desenvolvimento vegetativo, quando submetido à poda curta. A última época de poda propiciou melhor desenvolvimento vegetativo do cv. 'Cabernet Sauvignon'. Palavras-chave: brotações; extrato de alho; Vitis vinifera.
The framboseira-negra has a potential for cultivation in Brazil, due to the fact that this fruit produces high quantities of fruits, which confer a high quality jelly. However, their propagation is an obstacle to the establishment of commercial plantations. Production and expansion of a fruit is directly linked to the propagation method and the quality of its development. Given the above, the aim of the present study was to evaluate the use of stem cuttings and IBA in asexual propagation of black raspberry. Two experiments being conducted in greenhouse conditions were performed. Stem cuttings were taken from didactic orchard, with matrix plant of four years, which were the experiments. The first experiment was carried out in factorial 3x2, with cuttings taken from three regions of the plant branch matrix (apical, median and basal) x two treatments with IBA (without IBA and 2000mg L-1 IBA), containing four repetitions and fifteen cuttings per repetition. The second experiment consisted of a 4x2, with four sizes of cuttings (5, 10, 15 and 20cm) x two treatments with IBA (without IBA and 2000mg L-1 IBA), with four replications and fifteen cuttings by repetition. After eighty days, the percentage of rooted cuttings (%), average number of roots and shoots for cuttings, the longest root length (cm) and fresh and dry biomass of shoots (g) were assessed. Best results in the formation of root system were observed in middle and apical stem cuttings. Stem Cuttings between 10 and 20cm obtained better results for rooting. There is no need to use IBA rooting of cuttings of black raspberry.
In the western region of Paraná, the subtropical climate prevails, with little accumulation of hours of cold in the winter, making the fruit species not go into complete dormancy. Given the above, the objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of chemical defoliant on blackberry varieties, aiming at their complete defoliation and induction of numbness. The work was conducted at Unioeste, Marechal Cândido Rondon Campus, in a four-year-old orchard of plants, spaced 3 x 0.5 m, simple spreader with two wire strands at a height of 120 cm from the ground, and 20 plants per grow crops. The experimental design used was randomized blocks, where two treatments related to the application of defoliant (with and without) on 7 cvs were evaluated blackberry, containing three replicates and three plants in each cultivar. Was used as a defoliant lime sulfur applied in August pruning then held 25 days after application. Regarding fruit quality, Caigangue and Tupy varieties showed the highest SS/AT ratio, indicating the best flavor of their fruits for fresh consumption. The cultivars Brazos and Guarani showed lower SS/AT ratio, indicating more acidic fruits. Higher levels of ascorbic acid were found in fruits of cvs. Guarani and Cherokee. The application of defoliant reduced the total number of blackberry fruits of the cultivars Comanche and Guarani. The use of defoliant did not interfere in the physicochemical characteristics of the blackberry fruits of the evaluated cultivars.
