A recent modeling study estimated that there could be as many as 20,000 human melioidosis cases per year in Indonesia, with around 10,000 potential deaths annually. Nonetheless, the true burden of melioidosis in Indonesia is still unknown. The Indonesia Melioidosis Network was formed during the first melioidosis workshop in 2017. Here, we reviewed 101 melioidosis cases (99 human and two animal cases) previously reported and described an additional 45 human melioidosis cases. All 146 culture-confirmed cases were found in Sumatra (n = 15), Java (n = 104), Kalimantan (n = 15), Sulawesi (n = 11) and Nusa Tenggara (n = 1). Misidentification of Burkholderia pseudomallei was not uncommon, and most cases were only recently identified. We also evaluated clinical manifestations and outcome of recent culture-confirmed cases between 2012 and 2017 (n = 42). Overall, 15 (36%) cases were children (age <15 years) and 27 (64%) were adults (age ≥15 years). The overall mortality was 43% (18/42). We conducted a survey and found that 57% (327/548) of healthcare workers had never heard of melioidosis. In conclusion, melioidosis is endemic throughout Indonesia and associated with high mortality. We propose that top priorities are increasing awareness of melioidosis amongst all healthcare workers, increasing the use of bacterial culture, and ensuring accurate identification of B. pseudomalleiand diagnosis of melioidosis.
Haruan is river-water fish usually consumed by South Kalimantan people. Haruan extract contains albumin, Zn, Fe,Cu and unsaturated fatty acid which can act as antiinflammatory substances and accelarate wound healing. The aim ofthis study is to examine effectiveness of haruan extract on lymphocyte count in infammatory phase of wound healingprocess and compare it to ibuprofen. This study used true experimental method with post-test only control group designand simple random sampling. Samples were divided into 5 treatment groups:which were given the extract for 7 sevendays: 25% haruan extract group, 50% haruan extract group, 100% haruan extract group, negative control K(-) usingaquadest, positive control K(+) given ibuprofen suspension with dosage of 20mg/kg weight/day. Lymphocyte cells wereobserved using microscope and counted per field of view. Lymphocyte count reached its peak on day 5. Lymphocytecount means in each group were 4,2 ± 0,566; 1± 0,000; 3,8 ± 2,546; 7,1 ± 0,141; dan 7,5 ± 3,818 respectively. Two way ANOVA and post hoc LSD tests showed that lymphocyte count significantly decreased in 50% and 100% treatmentgroups (p<0,05) and has equal effect with ibuprofen in decreasing lymphocyte count. This study concluded that haruanextract significantly decreased lymphocyte count in wound healing process.
This study aims to determine the association between prostate volume and PSA levels in BPH patients at Ulin Hospital Banjarmasin. This study used a cross-sectional retrospective approach and analytic method. A total of 52 samples were obtained by purposive sampling based on inclusion and exclusion criterias. The highest prostate volume of 20.00-39.99 cc was obtained from 16 patients (30.7%) and the lowest volume of 60.00-79.99 cc was obtained from 10 patients (19.2%). Examination of PSA levels were highest at 2.6-9.9 ng/mL from 24 patients (46.2%) and the lowest at >20.0 ng/mL (5.8%) from 3 patients. Data analysis using Pearson correlation coefficient showed a positive correlation between prostate volume and PSA levels in BPH patients at Ulin Hospital Banjarmasin with a p value = 0,000 and r = 0.616 (positive and strong correlation). Keywords: BPH, Prostate volume, PSA
The purpose of this research is analyze effectiveness giant educational game media with the theme of scientific-based transportation equipment to improve the motor skills of group B kindergarten children in Kudus. This study uses quasi experimental in the form of nonequivalent control group design. Data sources in this study were teachers and children from group B of Pertiwi Bacin Kindergarten, ABA V Kindergarten, and Nurush Shofa Kindergarten at Kudus, material experts and product experts. Data collection techniques using assessment of observations for children. The instrument is observation sheets. The data analysis technique was carried out in limited trials and extensive trials. It is analysis prerequisite test, and hypothesis testing using t test. The results of the effectiveness test through product trials on the independent Paired Sample t test. Results of t test of 21,189 and a t table of 4,381 or 21,189 > 4,381. Meanwhile N-Gain value of 71 in the effective category. Based on the results of t count > t table and the value of N-Gain, it can be interpreted that the use of giant educational game media learning media with the theme of scientific-based transportation is effectively used to improve the motor skills kindergarten in Kudus. The conclusion is giant educational game media learning media is effective to improve motor skills kindergarten in Kudus.
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is structural or functional abnormalities in kidney for more than 3 months so the patient must undergo hemodialysis to assist the kidneys. CKD patients on hemodialysis therapy have persistent inflammation due to their disease. One way to determine inflammation is assess a biomarker in form of c-reactive protein (CRP). This study aims to determine the correlation between hemodialysis duration and CRP levels in routine hemodialysis patients. The research method used is observational analytic with cross-sectional approach. This study involved 100 patients with total of 93 patients who met the inclusion criteria and the sample size were 74 people with total random sampling technique. The results of the study from data that weren’t normally distributed showed the median of hemodialysis duration was 18 months, the median CRP level was 3.25 mg/L, and there was no significant correlation between the hemodialysis duration and CRP levels in routine hemodialysis patients.
