Juss) is small tree which presents many potentialities in food production, firewood and in folk medicine. Its reproduction is by seeds contained in the pyrenes, popularly called as stone that cause a low and uneven germination rate. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of stage of seed development, the temperature, the integrity of pyrenes and the gibberellic acid (GA 3 ) on germination of this species. For this, three experiments were conducted in a completely randomized design. The first one was considered two stages of fruit ripening, two states of integrity of the endocarp and two concentrations of gibberellic acid (GA 3 ); the second involved the use of accelerated aging with presence or absence of gibberellic acid (GA3) and, the third, two stages of fruit ripening, two concentrations of gibberellic acid (GA3) and presence or absence of aeration. The results allowed concluding that the seeds showed better physiological quality when coming from ripe fruits and abscised naturally. Pre-soaking of intact kernels in gibberellic acid at a concentration of 1 g.L -1 for 24 hours under alternating temperature of 25/35 °C favored the germination. Satisfactory results occurred under alternating temperature in the germination chamber or in open air, in substrate consisting of sand with water supply ...
• Premise of the study: Microsatellite markers were developed and characterized in Byrsonima cydoniifolia (Malpighiaceae) to allow further investigation of genetic variation in natural populations. Cross-amplification was tested in the related species B. crassifolia.• Methods and Results: Seventeen microsatellite markers were isolated by a microsatellite-enriched library protocol. Fourteen polymorphic and three monomorphic loci were identified in B. cydoniifolia. The mean number of alleles in the three populations were 6.5, 6.5, and 8.2, ranging from three to 17 for different loci and populations. Mean observed and expected heterozygosities were 0.706 and 0.727, respectively. The fixation index was close to zero for all but two loci. Nine microsatellite loci were successfully cross-amplified in B. crassifolia.• Conclusions: This new set of microsatellite markers will be a useful tool for genetic studies of B. cydoniifolia, supporting strategies for maintaining the genetic diversity of this species and possibly that of many related species.
ABSTRACT Occurrence of Meloidogyne enterolobii on muricizeiro of (Byrsonima cydoniifolia)Spreading of plant pathogens through seedlings is one of the main ways of introducing pathogens in places free of these agents. Meloidogyne enterolobii is a highly virulent species of nematode responsible for serious damage to plants grown in Brazil. In this study the occurrence of M. enterolobii on young individuals of muricizeiro (Byrsonima cydoniifolia), a native species of the Amazon forest, is made for the first time together with the first report of the occurrence of this nematode on guava (Psidium guajava) in the State of Mato Grosso, Brazil. Based on morphological characters of the perineal pattern of females, lip region of males and the esterase isoenzyme phenotype, we confirmed that the species found in both of B. cydoniifolia and P. guajava is M. enterolobii.
