A direct intramolecular anti-Markovnikov hydroetherification reaction of alkenols is described. By employing catalytic quantities of commercially-available 9-mesityl-10-methylacridinium perchlorate and 2-phenylmalononitrile as a redox-cycling source of a hydrogen atom, we report the anti-Markovnikov hydroetherification of alkenes with complete regioselectivity. In addition, we present results demonstrating that this novel catalytic system can be applied to the anti-Markovnikov hydrolactonization of alkenoic acids.
The results contribute to a growing body of evidence demonstrating favourable outcomes of AS in terms of engagement and challenging behaviour in people with ID. Surprising results are presented for choice and perceived support needs, warranting further investigation.
Considering the time pressures and restricted caregiver time, the intervention should be brief and should aim to enhance their visibility as service recipients, patient-specific information giving, preparation for their role, and emotional support.
Cu2ZnSnSe4 thin films, fabricated on bare or molybdenum coated glass substrates by magnetron sputtering and selenisation, were studied by a range of techniques. Photoluminescence spectra reveal an excitonic peak and two phonon replicas of a donor-acceptor pair (DAP) recombination. Its acceptor and donor ionisation energies are 27 and 7 meV, respectively. This demonstrates that high-quality Cu2ZnSnSe4 thin films can be fabricated. An experimental value for the longitudinal optical phonon energy of 28 meV was estimated. The band gap energy of 1.01 eV at room temperature was determined using optical absorption spectra
This article has been written for two purposes. First, it explores a paradox: that recent Anglo-American usage of 'pedagogy' mirrors the mainland European use of 'didactic'. Secondly, it is a comment on the current status of curriculum studies. In particular, it relates curriculum analysis to the fields of didactic and pedagogic analysis.
Sleep patterns of people with mental retardation have received little research attention. This is an important gap in knowledge because understanding the relation between sleep and wakefulness may be critical to care provision. Descriptive sleep information on 28 people with severe or profound mental retardation and epilepsy was presented here. Sleep EEG data, studied both conventionally and by means of a neural network-based sleep analysis system suggest atypical sleep stages with significant depletion of REM sleep and a predominance of "indiscriminate" non-REM sleep. Sleep diaries completed by caregivers reveal lengthy sleep period times, especially among those with profound mental retardation. Possible explanations for these results and their implications were discussed.
Forty-four consecutive infants aged from 3 days to 10 months underwent repair of total anomalous pulmonary venous connection using deep hypothermia with circulatory arrest. There were eight (18%) early hospital deaths. Using multivariate analysis no significant association could be shown between early mortality and age or weight at operation, preoperative pulmonary or systemic pressure, and preoperative condition for patients undergoing operation during the most recent five year period. Late pulmonary venous obstruction developed in four (11%) of the survivors and all of these patients died.
Weak but significant associations between emotional and behavioural problems and life events experienced by adults with ID were demonstrated, but it was also shown that the strength of such associations varies among sub-groups of this heterogeneous population. Future research needs to take account of the circumstances surrounding the life changes, the period of time over which changes might have taken place, and the meaning that the person might attach to the changes. Research into the causal relationship between exposure to life events and the onset of psychiatric problems is also warranted.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
