Resumo -O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o desempenho, as variáveis fisiológicas e o comportamento de cinco linhagens de frangos de corte caipiras criadas em sistema semi-intensivo, em região de clima quente. Utilizaram-se 400 aves, com idade inicial de 35 dias, em cinco tratamentos representados pelas linhagens caipiras: Pescoço Pelado, Vermelho Pesadão, Carijó, Master Griss e Colorido. Utilizou-se um delineamento inteiramente casualizado, com quatro repetições e 20 parcelas. Avaliaram-se desempenho (ganho de peso, consumo de ração e conversão alimentar), temperatura retal, frequência respiratória e comportamento. Não houve diferenças significativas entre as linhagens para desempenho e variáveis fisiológicas. Todas as linhagens apresentaram desconforto térmico e, com base nos comportamentos observados, notou-se uma adaptação à alta temperatura. As linhagens Pescoço Pelado, Vermelho Pesadão, Carijó, Master Griss e Colorido podem ser utilizadas para a criação em sistema semi-intensivo, em região de clima quente.Termos para indexação: ambiência, avicultura alternativa, comportamento, desempenho. Strains of free-range broilers reared in semi-intensive system in a hot climate regionAbstract -The objective of this work was to evaluate the performance, physiological traits, and behavior of five lines of free-range broilers reared in a semi-intensive system in hot climate region. Four hundred birds, with an initial age of 35 days, were used in five treatments represented by the free-range lines: Pescoço Pelado, Vermelho Pesadão, Carijó, Master Griss, and Colorido lines. A completely randomized design with four replicates and 20 plots was used. Performance (weight gain, feed intake, and feed conversion), rectal temperature, respiratory frequency, and behavior were evaluated. There were no significant differences between the lines for performance and physiological variables. All lines showed thermal discomfort and, based on their behaviors, an adaptation trend to hot climate was noted. The Pescoço Pelado, Vermelho Pesadão, Carijó, Master Griss, and Colorido lines can be reared in semi-intensive systems in hot climate region.

Resumo -O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar os efeitos da substituição do farelo de soja pelo feijão guandu cru na alimentação de frangos caipiras criados em sistema semi-intensivo. Foram utilizados 525 frangos de corte da linhagem Caipira Pesadão, com idade inicial de 35 dias, distribuídos em cinco tratamentos com cinco repetições de 21 aves cada um. Os tratamentos consistiram na substituição de 0, 5, 10, 15 e 20% do farelo de soja pelo feijão guandu cru moído. Foram avaliados o ganho de peso, o consumo de ração, a conversão alimentar, o rendimento de carcaça e de cortes, o peso do pâncreas e a qualidade da carne. A substituição do farelo de soja pelo feijão guandu em até 15,45%, nas dietas de frangos caipiras de corte, com idade de 57 a 71 dias, não altera o ganho de peso. Raw pigeon pea in the diet of free-range broilers reared in a semi-intensive systemAbstract -The objective of this work was to evaluate the effects of replacing soybean meal by raw pigeon pea in the diet of free-range broilers reared in a semi-intensive system. Five hundred twenty-five broilers of the Caipira Pesadão lineage were used, with initial age of 35 days, distributed in five treatments with five replicates of 21 birds each. Treatments consisted of the replacement of 0, 5, 10, 15, and 20% of soybean meal by ground raw pigeon pea. Weight gain, feed intake, feed conversion, carcass and cuts yield, pancreas weight, and meat quality were evaluated. Replacing soybean meal by pigeon pea in up to 15.45% in the diet of free-range meat broilers, with age of 57 to 71 days, does not change weight gain. Increasing levels of pigeon pea in the diet do not affect carcass yield, pancreas weight, and meat quality parameters.Index terms: Cajanus cajan, alternative feed, free-range birds, performance, carcass yield. IntroduçãoA criação de aves para a produção de carne do tipo caipira, no sistema semi-intensivo, é um dos segmentos da avicultura que tem se mostrado promissor (Santos et al., 2005). A carne produzida apresenta sabor diferenciado, que agrada ao paladar de consumidores à procura de alimentos com maiores atributos de qualidade (Carrijo et al., 2010). No entanto, o desafio nesse tipo de criação é tornar a produção mais eficiente, ao diminuir os custos com a alimentação, sem perder as características dos produtos.O aumento na demanda por fontes de proteína e o seu alto custo tem estimulado pesquisas que buscam novas alternativas para substituir as tradicionais fontes proteicas, principalmente a do farelo de soja. The physiological parameters and the productive performance of free-range broilers submitted to installations with different materials of tile composition were evaluated. 320 male broilers of the Vermelho Pesadão lineage were used, with an initial age of 35 days, distributed among the following treatments: 1) Fiber cement tile painted white on the outside; 2) Cardboard tile coated with double-sided canvas -black for the interior and white for the exterior; 3) Tetra Pak® box tile; 4) Tile of Tetra Pak® boxes covered with PET bottles. A completely randomized design was used, with 4 replicates per treatment and 20 broilers per experimental unit. The climatic environment was evaluated daily at 8, 10, 12, 14 and 16 hours. The productive and physiological parameters were evaluated every 7 days, the last ones being collected at 9 and 15 hours. In the afternoon, the highest values of air temperature and black globe temperature index and humidity were recorded, regardless of the materials evaluated. Fiber cement tiles and cardboard tiles coated with double-sided canvas showed the lowest values of climatic variables. There was no difference between the types of tile for the variables of productive performance and physiological parameters. It was concluded that the fiber-cement tiles painted white on the outside, and the cardboard coated with light canvas on the outside provided a better thermal environment inside the aviaries, which can be indicated for use in shelters for the creation of free-range broilers.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of different forced-molting methods on the performance and quality of laying quail eggs. The experiment was conducted in a conventional shed for quails and lasted 115 days. 480 Japanese quails at an initial age of 52 weeks were used. The following treatments were evaluated: total feed fasting (control treatment); corn and soybean bran diet; highzinc diet (7,300 ppm); wheat bran diet; and ground corn diet. A fully randomized experimental outline was used with 5 treatments and 4 repetitions. Each lot was formed by 24 quails with a total of 480 birds. Performance (production and egg weights, feed intake, feed conversion ratio per kg egg mass and per dozen eggs, viable eggs and egg viability) and egg quality (eggshell thickness and yield, specific weight and Haugh unit) were evaluated. Treatment differences were compared using the Scott-Knott test (5%). Wheat bran and highzinc diets yielded poorer averages of egg production and feed conversion ratioper dozen eggs. Studied treatments had no influence on egg quality. Hence, we can conclude that cornonly or corn and soybean bran only feeds can be adopted as forced molting methods in Japanese quails instead of traditional fasting methods.
