The aim of this study was to evaluate levels of inclusion of pinto beans in diets for quail in the laying phase on their performance and egg quality. A total of 280 Japanese quail in the laying phase were distributed into five treatments in a completely randomized design with eight replicates and seven birds per plot. Treatments consisted of five levels (0, 2, 4, 6, and 8%) of inclusion of pinto beans in the diets, which remained isoenergetic and isoproteic. The experiment began with the quail at 70 days of age and lasted 63 days, with their performance assessed every 21 days and egg-quality parameters on the last two days of each cycle. The following parameters were evaluated: final weight, feed intake, egg-laying rate, feed conversion (per dozen eggs and per egg mass), egg weight, eggshell thickness, specific gravity, yolk color, and weights of shell, yolk, and albumen. No difference was detected between the bean inclusion levels for any of the performance and egg-quality traits assessed or the birds' final weight. In conclusion, up to 8% raw pinto beans may be added in diets for Japanese quail in the laying phase without compromising their performance or internal-external egg quality.

A utilização de sistemas de produção sustentáveis e com viabilidade econômica é de extrema importância. Portanto, estudo busca compreender as respostas do sistema solo-planta com a associação do uso da cobertura morta vegetal e o sistema de consórcio de gramínea e leguminosa. Para isto, realizou-se uma revisão bibliográfica narrativa. O milheto (Pennisetum glaucum (L.) R. Br.) é uma planta de ciclo anual curto com baixa exigência hídrica (450-700 mm). Quando cultiva sob cobertura morta para a produção de forragem, seu rendimento foi elevado. Isto porque o uso da cobertura morta no solo pode aumentar a infiltração da água no solo, contribuindo para maior eficiência do uso da água nas plantas. Além disso, esta prática pode aumentar a população microbiana do solo e a fertilidade. Concomitantemente, o cultivo de milheto consorciado com leguminosas como o feijão-caupi e o feijão-guando pode contribuir para um maior rendimento de cultivo em regiões semiáridas. O consórcio entre gramíneas e leguminosas, desde que sejam compatíveis em termos de desenvolvimento, pode acarretar em altos benefícios para a produção do sistema, pois a fixação biológica do N atmosférico pode aumentar a produção de biomassa e qualidade da forragem para alimentação animal. Apesar de suas inúmeras vantagens, o uso da cobertura morta no cultivo de milheto e o consórcio com leguminosas ainda necessita de maiores definições técnicas e precisa ser melhor estudado. Principalmente no que diz respeito ao manejo associado dessas duas práticas (cobertura morta e consórcio).

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of using increasing levels of cassava root meal in the diet of broilers, estimated by the performance and yield of carcasses, cuts, and viscera over, in the period 10 to 42 days of life. A completely randomized design was carried out, with four treatments and four repetitions. The experimental unit consisted of 16 male and female Cobb 500 chickens (a total of 256 birds) that were 10 to 42 days old. The treatments consisted of four diets with 0%, 7.5%, 15%, and 22.5% of cassava root meal (CRM) in three feeding programs. At 42 days old, four birds per unit were slaughtered and the carcass yield, main cuts, and edible viscera were evaluated. The inclusion of levels of 15% and 22.5% of CRM in the diet of broiler had a negative influence on weight gain, food consumption, and feed conversion in the initial period and in the overall growth of the birds. Carcass yield, cuts, and viscera were not influenced by the diet. Based on the results, it is recommended that a maximum of 7.5% of the cassava root bran may be used in the diet of broilers of the Cobb 500 strain, over 10 to 42 days, without compromising the zootechnical performance of the birds or the yield of edible carcasses, cuts, and viscera.
