A análise ocorreu no período pré-refazimento, ano do refazimento e pós-refazimento. Abstract The quality of accounting information is essential for stakeholders and the practice of earnings management is a measure of quality of the information. Coupled to this, the Brazilian Securities Commission (CVM) requests the republication of the financial statements whenever necessary. However, upon republication of the financial statements may be different judgments about the financial choices by managers, resulting in changes in the level of earnings management organizations and informational asymmetry between the principal and the agent. Thus, the objective with this study was to investigate the influence of the restatement of financial statements in earnings management of companies listed on BM&FBovespa. The analysis took place in the pre-restatement period, the year of restatement and post-restatement. We conducted a descriptive, documentary, with quantitative nature approach. The survey sample consisted of 18 companies with restatement of financial statements from 1995 to 2012 and for comparison 18 companies without restatement listed on BM&FBovespa containing similarities in the size and sector of activity were selected. The results did not reveal differences from the average of discretionary accruals between the periods of pre-restatement, year of restatement and post-restatement. On the other hand, the results compared to companies that were not required to restate the financial statements reveal that the restatement influences the negative earnings management. Before the variables tested, it was found that the debt influences the negative earnings management and company size influences the positive earnings management. Keywords: Restatement of financial statements. This study aims to analyze the relationship between cost asymmetry (Sticky Costs) behavior and earnings management practices of Brazilian companies. The methodology refers to descriptive, documentary and quantitative research. The sample comprised 160 Brazilian companies listed on BM&FBovespa between 2008 and 2017. Multiple linear regression models were used to analyze the data. We observed that accounting profit is affected by sticky costs behavior and by earnings management practices. Total accruals and part of earnings management are explained by costs asymmetric behavior. This paper contributes to the current research on the discussion that part of earnings management can be due to sticky costs. In addition, the results show that the Dechow, Sloan and Sweeney (1995) model could consider the asymmetry of costs as an interference variable on total accruals, in order to better estimate the discretionary accruals.
All companies in agribusiness supply chains need to be aware of the best use of available resources, which demands an integrated assessment of environmental, economic and social aspects, i.e., the Triple Bottom Line (TBL). Such analysis allows us to get a more balanced and complete understanding of the real performance of companies, supply chains and industries. Companies in the upstream of agribusinesses supply chains present some limitations, but can contribute significantly to the overall sustainability of the entire value chain. The objective of this research was to understand the role of the drivers of sustainability in dairy farming from a TBL perspective, such as assistance to producers and the value chain, and the use of better technology and management practices. A sample of 54 rural farms in the dairy supply chain of the western region of Santa Catarina, Brazil, was used to test four hypotheses about what can drive sustainability. Furthermore, first- and second-order structural equation models using SMART PLS software were used for the analysis of the data. The results obtained show that social sustainability is positively influenced by the use of good management practices, and the latter, as well as public policies, positively influence economic sustainability. Furthermore, it was found that improvements in production techniques positively influence environmental sustainability, and this is mostly influenced by the use of good management practices, and less so by policies directed at the supply chain. Finally, from the analysis of the second-order variable for sustainability, it was highlighted that the economic dimension prevails in the eyes of the farmers, as the main dimension of sustainability, and that environmental aspects are still neglected.
