The intention of this paper is to give a better understanding about the implementation of sustainable manufacturing practice in the textile companies in Indonesia as one of the promising sectors in the manufacturing industry. The data was collected by taking a case study approach in one of the leading textile companies in Indonesia. Questionnaire and interview techniques were used to gather in-depth information about the implementation of a sustainable concept in the company. The result reveals that the extent of the implementation of Sustainable Manufacturing Practices (SMP) in the companies are at a level of moderate to high. From the three dimensions measured which are environment, economy, and social dimensions, the evaluation result shows good performance in terms of the implementation of sustainable concepts, like low level of gas emission, high percentage of renewable energy usage, cost reduction rate, high quality of life, etc. From this result, the authors then develop a sustainable manufacturing model in the wider coverage to be implemented not only in the textile industry but is expected to be implemented in manufacturing sectors as well. This model consists of at least seven basic archetypes which are divided into three dominant areas: technological innovation, economical, and social areas which aim to bring better performance in the manufacturing industry of Indonesia.
This study aims to determine the factors that affect the performance of mutual funds, especially equity mutual funds. There are several factors that considered affect the performance of mutual funds such as: Asset Under Management (AUM), fund age, past performance, asset allocation, Turn of the Year effect, equity funds with blue chip or non-blue chip stocks, equity funds owned by insurance or non-insurance, external factors such as the rupiah against the US dollar (exchange rate), and investors behavior factor. In this study the researchers have collected data from January 2008 to December 2014. For the purpose of the study the researchers have selected 30 sample of equity mutual funds are still active from 2008-2014. The results are processed using Sharpe ratio to measure the magnitude of risk premium for each unit of risk taken. The result shows that all variables has significant influence on the performance of equity mutual funds. Partially, Asset Under Management (AUM), fund age, asset allocation, Turn of the Year Effect, exchange rate, and investor behavior have significant influence on the performance of equity mutual funds. While another variables such as past performance, Blue Chip and Non-Blue Chip Mutual Funds and insurance and non-insurance company don’t have significant influence on the performance of equity mutual funds in Indonesia. All of variables studied have great contribution on the performance of equity mutual funds. This finding can guide the investment managers in formulating an appropriate investment strategy for investors who want to put their funds into equity funds. This finding can guide the investment managers in formulating an appropriate strategy for investors who want to put their funds into equity funds. Through this study also the authors give a recommendation about the optimal portfolio strategy for the investors. The research result also shows that strategic asset allocation with rebalancing strategy is considered best done by an investor. This finding can be used by the investors as a reference to invest in equity mutual funds to improve the profit to develop their business. (Abstract)
This article offers a new strategy of holistic rural development by utilizing the external strengths of the rural and the internal strength based on the experience of one of the rural in Indonesia that has been succeeded in turning the rural from the poorest into the best in the national rank. The successful formula is associated with the role of village leaders in benefiting opportunities from the existing external-internal aspects. To capture more holistic development phenomena including political, economic, social, technological, environmental and legal phenomena while generating new bottom-up strategies, the study uses PESTEL and SOAR analysis. This study found that the first condition for rural development in Indonesia is the development of village leadership management strength in holistically managing the potential and opportunities of external and internal villages. It changes the fundamental paradigm that holistic rural development must be seen as a whole (the village can take advantage of the existing external-internal strengths) partially (the village only focuses on utilizing the village's internal strength utilization agricultural potential). Through the PESTELs-SOAR analysis approach, the strategy offered becomes more rational and comprehensive in sustainable rural development by collaborating the village bottom-up strategy approach while still considering prevailing external conditions (more top-down).
Purpose This study aims to explore the applicability of the learning organization (LO) concept as a predictor of work performance (WP) using partial least square (PLS) as a statistical method to explain the presence or absence of relationships between those latent variables. Design/methodology/approach An empirical approach was conducted on a research sample of a local government in Indonesia. The design of this study is a cross-sectional study using a closed-ended questionnaire, and PLS is used as a statistical method. Findings The results show evidence of internal consistency and construct reliability and provide a sound answer that the LO concept can explain a considerable proportion of the WP. This indicates that LO could be considered as the predictor of WP. Originality/value To date, studies on the benefit of becoming an LO have been increasing since the publication of Senge’s book, The Fifth Discipline, in the 1990s. However, such research efforts are directed primarily at assessing financial and knowledge performance (Swanson and Chermack, 2013). Very few studies have focused on the benefits associated with becoming an LO with an emphasis on individual performance using the behavioral aspect.
In this 21st century era, creative industry has been recognizing as a new Indonesian economic driver, especially textile industry that are forecasted to give positive trend in the future. Bandung, where is known as Creative City with great number of textile companies, has gathered more intention since many SMEs in textile industries try to develop their business in this city. This paper attempts to bring a better economic development for SMEs business in Bandung by revealing Supply Chain Management (SCM) application and Brand Image as crucial factors that brings big impacts to the textile SMEs' performance. Quantitative analysis has been performed, supported by the literature review process to give better understanding about the causal relationship among those variables. The Partial Least Square result then exposes that among the SCM practices in textile SMEs' companies, quality of information sharing emerges as the most influential factor that enhances the SMEs' performance, followed by customer relationship, information sharing, quality information exchange' and 'lean production'. Besides of SCM, brand image also has impact to the textile SMEs' performance in Bandung.
