This descriptive study was carried out to determine factors affecting health-promoting behaviors in nursing students. The sample consisted of 245 students. A questionnaire about factors affecting lifestyle behavior and the Health Promotion Lifestyle Profile Scale-II were used to collect data from 245 nursing students during the spring semester of the 2012-2013 academic year. A significant difference was found between students with and without diagnosed health problems in terms of their mean scores on the Health Promotion Lifestyle Profile Scale-II subscales of health responsibility, spiritual growth, and interpersonal relations, as well as their total mean scores (p < .05). The exercise, nutrition, spiritual growth, and stress management subscale scores of those students regularly going for health checks were determined to be significantly higher than those of the students who did not obtain regular health checks. Students' healthy lifestyle behaviors were generally found to be at the medium level. This study provides evidence of the need for interventions to help nurses in Turkey.

Purpose: To determine the relationship between social media usage characteristics and alexithymia in nursing students.Design and methods: The study was conducted with 272 nursing students between November and December 2018 in Turkey. Data were collected using an information form to determine the sociodemographic and social media usage characteristics of the students, and the Toronto Alexithymia Scale.Findings: According to the results of this study, nursing students use Instagram the most. As time spent on social media increases, the alexithymia score increases and students have difficulty recognizing their feelings.Practice implications: As the use of social media by nursing students affects their mental process and behavior patterns, the results of social media applications, which witness a wide range of feelings, thoughts, attitudes, and behaviors, should be included in the nursing curriculum. Social media is a platform for information exchange and an environment that enables users to establish new relationships or protect existing ones. 4,5As a result of the widespread use of the internet and smartphones, individuals can share information and images instantly without time and space restrictions. Background: Forkhead transcription factors 3a (FOXO3a) has pleiotropic biological functions in the female reproductive tract. FOXO3a has a function in decidualization, in placental development, and also in inhibition of apoptosis. This study aims to investigate a possible role of FOXO3a in missed abortion. Materials and Methods: Decidual and placental tissue samples were obtained from the women with unwanted pregnancy as the control group and with missed abortion as the patient group. Immunohistochemistry technique was utilized to compare FOXO3a expression of the decidual cells in uterine decidual stroma and cytotrophoblast-syncytiotrophoblast cells in placental villous stroma. Immunohistochemistry was evaluated semi-quantitatively utilizing the H-score technique. Results: It was demonstrated that H-Scores of FOXO3a expression in both uterine decidual stroma were increased in the missed abortion group (255.83±12.41) than in the normal pregnancy group (133.33±17.43). It was also shown that there was no difference between non-decidual area of the endometrium of the normal pregnancy and the missed abortion group (30.33±4.32; 39.66±14.30, respectively) and placental villous stroma (13.00±1.89; 13.00±1.67, respectively). However, the immunoreactivity of cytotrophoblast and syncytiotrophoblast cells significantly increased in the missed abortion group (18.83±1.47; 322.00±6.06, respectively) than in the normal pregnancy group (11.00±1.26; 254.00±8.17, respectively) (p < 0.05). Conclusion: These data support the hypothesis that increased FOXO3a expression in missed abortion may prevent the discharge of dead fetus to maintain decidualization, prevention of oxidative stress, immunomodulation, and inhibition of apoptosis.

Günümüzde Tamamlayıcı Sağlık Yaklaşımlarının (TSY) kullanımı yaygındır. Tamamlayıcı sağlık yaklaşımlarının çoğu doğal ürünler, zihin ve beden uygulamaları olarak şeklinde iki alt gruba ayrılır. Bu uygulamalar hastalar ve hemşireler tarafından da sıklıkla kullanılmaktadır. Hastalar konvansiyonel tıbbın sınırlılığı ya da ilaçların bazı yan etkilerinden korunmak amacıyla TSY nı kullanmaktadır. Hemşireler de hastaların rahatladıkları gibi düşüncelerle bu yöntemleri kullanır. Bu makalenin amacı hasta ve hemşirelerin TSY kullanma durumlarını belirlemek, bu yaklaşımlara bakış açıları ve bilgi kaynaklarına dikkat çekmektir.
