The natural isomers of resveratrol, cis-and trans-resveratrol, are natural phenolic substances synthetized via the shikimate pathway and found in many sources, including grapes, peanuts, blackberries, pistachios, cacao, cranberries, and jackfruits. They have functional and pharmacological properties such as anticarcinogenic, antidiabetic, anti-inflammatory, and cardioprotective activities. The aim of this article is to review the data published on resveratrol and its isomers, and their biosynthesis in plants, food sources, health and toxic effects, and the excretion of their metabolites. Due to its contribution to the promotion of human health, it is convenient to gather more knowledge about its functional properties, food sources, and the interactions with the human body during the processes of eating, digestion, absorption, biotransformation, and excretion, to combine this information to improve the understanding of these substances.

: Administration of substances through the skin represents a promising alternative, in relation to others drug administration routes, due to its large body surface area, in order to offer ideal and multiple sites for drug administration. In addition, the administration of drugs through the skin avoids first-pass metabolism, allowing an increase in the bioavailability of drugs, as well as reducing their side effects. However, the stratum corneum (SC) comprises the main barrier of protection against external agents, mainly due to its structure, composition and physicochemical properties, becoming the main limitation for the administration of substances through the skin. In view of the above, pharmaceutical technology has allowed the development of multiple drug delivery systems (DDS), which include liquid crystals (LC), cubosomes, liposomes, polymeric nanoparticles (PNP), nanoemulsions (NE), as well as cyclodextrins (CD) and dendrimers (DND). It appears that the DDS circumvents the problems of drug absorption through the SC layer of the skin, ensuring the release of the drug, as well as optimizing the therapeutic effect local. This review aims to highlight the DDS that include LC, cubosomes, lipid systems, PNP, as well as CD and DND, to optimize topical skin therapies.

Bionanocomposite films based on chitosan and nanocellulose (nanocrystals or nanofibrils) have gained considerable attention for biomedical applications, especially for wound dressings. However, the development of these films as controlled drug release dressings is still under-exploited. Therefore, this work aimed to design chitosan/nanocellulose-based bionanocomposite films, loaded by betamethasone or silver sulfadiazine, as functional dressings. The films were obtained by solvent casting and characterized by physicochemical, mechanical, barrier properties, in vitro drug release, and antimicrobial activity. The nanocellulose type, physical state, and content caused influence on the film's properties providing different physical, barrier, and drug release profiles. They are semi-occlusive and mechanically resistant; the drug release is controlled, and possesses antimicrobial activity. In conclusion, the developed biodegradable bionanocomposite films are promising as active dressings for controlled drug delivery in the wound site and have specific applications according to their features to treat inflamed and purulent wounds, noninfectious dry wounds, and infectious wounds.
