RESUMO -O estudo foi desenvolvido no Município de Astorga, PR, na Fazenda Nossa Senhora de Aparecida, com o objetivo de avaliar as características da pastagem e o acúmulo de forragem em capim-Tanzânia (Panicum maximum Jacq.), diferido e após pastejado no período de 23/07 a 18/09/1999, sob diferentes níveis de altura de pasto. O delineamento experimental usado foi o inteiramente casualizado, com duas repetições. Os tratamentos foram quatro alturas de pasto: T 1 =20, T 2 =40, T 3 =60 e T 4 =80 cm. Entretanto, para a análise estatística, utilizaram-se as alturas reais de pasto mantidas nas unidades experimentais, sendo: T 1 R 1 = 26,3, T 1 R 2 = 24,6, T 2 R 1 = 47,9, T 2 R 2 = 42,5, T 3 R 1 = 55,8, T 3 R 2 = 61,7, T 4 R 1 = 69,2 e T 4 R 2 = 71,4 cm. Pode-se concluir que a altura de pasto aumenta de forma linear as massas de forragem e de colmos verdes. O acúmulo de forragem não foi afetado pelas diferentes alturas de pasto.Palavras-chave: diâmetro de touceira, lâmina foliar, massa de forragem Sward Characteristics of Deferred Tanzania Grass under Different Height Levels, in the Winter TimeABSTRACT -The study was carried out in the county of Astorga, PR, Brazil, in the Nossa Senhora de Aparecida farm. The objective was to study the sward characteristics and forage accumulation of tanzania grass, deferred and after grazed from 07/23 to 09/18/1999, under different sward height levels. The experimental design was a completely randommized, with two replications. The treatments were four levels of sward height: T 1 =20, T 2 =40, T 3 =60 and T 4 =80 cm. However, the true sward height levels were used for analysis statistics; T 1 R 1 =26,3, T 1 R 2 =24,6, T 2 R 1 =47,9, T 2 R 2 =42,5, T 3 R 1 =55,8, T 3 R 2 =61,7, T 4 R 1 =69,2 e T 4 R 2 =71,4 cm. Results indicate that: forage mass and green culm mass increased of the positive linear way with increased of sward height. RESUMOObjetivou-se avaliar o consumo, a digestibilidade e o desempenho de ovinos, arraçoados com dietas isoproteicas, contendo 75% de resíduos da agroindústria frutífera (abacaxi, acerola, maracujá e cupuaçu), uma dieta com feno de tifton e 25% de concentrado, em delineamento inteiramente ao acaso. A participação do resíduo de maracujá na dieta proporcionou os maiores níveis de consumo de matéria seca (1170,6g d -1 ) em relação aos resíduos de abacaxi (693,8g d -1 ), acerola (644,2g d -1 ), cupuaçu (452,9g d -1 ) e feno de tifton (962,7g d -1 ), o que se relaciona aos seus níveis de digestibilidade (77,8; 63,1; 59,1; 61,7 e 71,8%, respectivamente). Tal resultado gerou diferenças significativas, destacando-se o resíduo de maracujá quanto à conversão alimentar (8,3), e o ganho médio diário de peso (141,5g d -1 ). Apesar de ter tido a mesma conversão observada para o feno de tifton (13,2), apresentou maior ganho médio diário (75,6g d -1 ). Os demais resíduos apresentaram efeitos sobrepostos, contudo o resíduo de acerola ficou com a pior conversão (51,4) e o menor ganho médio diário (15,6g d -1 ), sendo esse sem diferença em relação ao cupuaçu (23,0g d -1 ). Os resíduos podem ser utilizados como alternativa para a alimentação de ovinos.Palavras-chave: abacaxi, acerola, cupuaçu, maracujá, subprodutos ABSTRATThe objective was to evaluate the consumption, digestibility and performance of the sheep with iso protein diets, with 75% of residues from fruit agro-industries (pineapple, acerola, passion fruit, and cupuassu) and a diet with tifton hay, and 25% of concentrate, in a totally randomized design. The participation of passion fruit residue on the diet provided the highest consumption levels of dry matter (1170.6g d -1 ) compared with the residues of pineapple (693.8g d -1 ), acerola (644.2g d -1 ), cupuassu (452.9g d -1 ) and tifton hay (962.7g d -1 ), which is related to their levels of digestibility (77.85, 63.14, 59.07, 61.68 and 71.83%, respectively). Such a result generated significant differences with emphasis on passion fruit residue regarding food inversion (8.30) and average daily weight gain (141.50g d -1 ), in spite of having the same conversion detected for tifton hay (13.2), it showed a higher average daily gain (75.6g d -1 ). The other residues showed overlapping effects, however, acerola residue showed the worst conversion level (51.4) and the lowest average daily gain (15.6g d -1 ), and this one showed no difference compared with cupuassu (23.0g d -1 ). The residues can be used as an alternative for sheep feeding.

<p>A pesar de un número significativo de especies vegetales ser reconocidas como alimenticias, solo una pequeña fracción cumple con la demanda proteica de la población mundial. Los cultivos mejorados, con una base genética muy limitada, muy posiblemente no podrán contrarrestar los efectos adversos del cambio climático. Por lo contrario, los cultivos considerados subutilizados, infrautilizados, olvidados, huérfanos, obsoletos o menores,<br />pueden contener en sus genomas las respuestas para garantizar la seguridad y la soberanía alimentaria y nutricional de las poblaciones. Esas variedades locales, debidamente adaptadas a condiciones agroclimáticas extremas, como las de maíz criollo e indígena colombiano, hacen parte del patrimonio cultural de muchos<br />grupos étnicos o pueblos originarios, que las seleccionan, las utilizan y las conservan. Además de estos, otro concepto se refiere a los recursos promisorios, igualmente poco utilizados, aunque por razones diferentes. Así, el Mejoramiento Participativo (MP) es una herramienta para promocionar variedades locales o cultivos<br />tradicionales subutilizados, para atender las necesidades de las comunidades. En el Fitomejoramiento Participativo, los miembros de la cadena de valores o productiva (agricultores, fitomejoradores, técnicos y otros) trabajan juntos en el proceso de desarrollo de las variedades, en un proceso descentralizado y participativo.<br />Un programa de MP con germoplasma de maíz colombiano resultó en la promoción de algunas variedades locales. Paralelamente se describieron nuevas razas de maíz para Colombia.</p>

The aim of this study was to evaluate diets substituting corn grain with passion fruit peels on the consumption, ingestive behavior, digestibility of diets and sheep performance. A total of 20 sheep were used, confined in individual pens, fed twice a day, with diets which included passion fruit peels in the proportions of 0; 25; 50; 75 and 100% replacing corn grain. The corn grain represented 70% of the dry matter of the diet and the passion fruit peels were supplied in dehydrated form. The experimental design was completely randomized with five treatments and four replicates. The data were submitted to analysis of variance and regression analysis at the significance level of 5%. There was a linear increase in dry matter consumption with an increase of 3.89 g for each inclusion level of passion fruit peel. The apparent digestibility of dry matter decreased and neutral detergent fiber increased linearly with the substitution of corn grain with passion fruit peels. The feeding, rumination, leisure and water intake times presented averages of 3.74; 2.92; 16.92 and 0.42 hours, and were not influenced by the diets (P>0.05). The average daily weight gain was similar for the animals in the different diets and consequently the final weight presented average values of 0.226 kg day-1 and 32.1 kg, respectively. The inclusion of passion fruit peels in the sheep diet is an interesting alternative because even with the reduced dry matter digestibility, it increased the consumption and promoted similar weight gains.

A avaliação do comportamento ingestivo na produção animal permite o desenvolvimento de técnicas de manejo e verificar os efeitos de arraçoamento e a qualidade da dieta ofertada, além da seletividade por alimentos. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o comportamento ingestivo de ovinos confinados alimentados com diferentes níveis de sementes de cupuaçu em substituição do milho. Foram utilizados 20 ovinos machos deslanados, idade de 10±1 meses, sem raça definida, com peso inicial de 25,9±3,7 kg. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi inteiramente casualizado. As observações do comportamento ingestivo dos ovinos foram realizadas de forma direta, com registro instantâneo em dois períodos de 48 horas consecutivas. Os dados foram submetidos a análise de regressões, ao nível de 5% de significância. O consumo de matéria seca e a eficiencia de alimentação da matéria seca reduziram linearmente, e o tempo de alimentação foi semelhante conforme ocorreu a substituição do grão de milho pela semente de cupuaçu. Para o consumo de fibra detergente neutro e o tempo de ruminação geraram equações quadráticas, com pontos de máxima de 47,9 e 53,5% de substituição. O tempo de ócio teve efeito quadrático, porém com ponto de mínima em 51,3%. A substituição do grão de milho pela semente de cupuaçu altera o comportamento ingestivo e sugere-se substituir o grão de milho pela semente de cupuaçu até o nível de 50% na alimentação de ovinos em sistema intensivo confinado.

Due to the importance of dairy activity in the municipalities of the state of Rondônia, the objective was to characterize milk production in the properties of the municipality of Nova Brasilândia D'Oeste - RO. The methodology was composed by the application of a questionnaire containing questions related to the production chain, using a sample of dairy farmers distributed through the municipality's vicinal lines. The analysis was performed with the aid of Microsoft Office Excel spreadsheets®. The results obtained show a low technological level in dairy activity in the municipality, with an average daily production of 4.73 L per cow. The animals are kept in pastures of tropical grasses, in which the genus Brachiaria stands out, present in 100% of the properties. The supply of bulky and concentrated source for supplementation of animals is not significant, causing seasonality in dairy production in dry periods because it does not meet the nutritional requirements of the herd. In relation to herd health, producers carry out mandatory vaccines of foot-and-mouth disease and brucellosis. Milking hygiene deserves attention for the low level of use of hygiene techniques such as pre- and post-dipping and diagnostic tests and mastitis control. Manual milking is performed in 92% of the evaluated properties. The low productivity of the municipality is related to non-specialized animals, the low technological level employed in the properties and the low adoption of technical assistance by producers. The data obtained were important to know and characterize the profile of dairy properties in this region and visualize the need for investment of the activity.

Possible histological changes in the liver of Colossoma macropomum Cuvier, 1816 (tambaqui) generated by the use of products incorporated into the diet as a control method of Neoechinorhynchus buttnerae Golvan, 1956 were evaluated. 1036 juveniles tambaqui with 77±3.0g of average weight were used, maintained in 28 polyethylene tanks of 1000L, with constant aeration and water recirculation system, using UV filter. The experimental units (30 fish per experimental unit) were distributed into four treatments, with seven replicates. The products, incorporated in fish oil, were added to the feed, according to the treatments: control group with commercial feed (Nutrizon Karino 36% GW) (A); extract of garlic (B); organic acids (C) and extract of garlic + organic acids (D). A parasitic and histopathological evaluation was performed at time zero (T0). During the experiment, two samples were collected, with an interval of five weeks, evaluating 15 fish per experimental unit. At the end, 63 liver samples for histological analysis were collected. The evaluated animals presented the expected growth for the species. 87.2% of efficacy was obtained with the association extract of garlic + organic acids. Hepatic morphological lesions compatible with toxicological processes were not observed, indicating a low toxicity for tested concentrations.
