We design a series of online performance feedback interventions that aim to motivate the production of user-generated content (UGC). Drawing on social value orientation (SVO) theory, we develop a novel set of alternative feedback message framings, aligned with cooperation (e.g., your content benefited others), individualism (e.g., your content was of high quality), and competition (e.g., your content was better than others). We hypothesize how gender (a proxy for SVO) moderates response to each framing, and we report on two randomized experiments, one in partnership with a mobile-app–based recipe crowdsourcing platform, and a follow-up experiment on Amazon Mechanical Turk involving an ideation task. We find evidence that cooperatively framed feedback is most effective for motivating female subjects, whereas competitively framed feedback is most effective at motivating male subjects. Our work contributes to the literatures on performance feedback and UGC production by introducing cooperative performance feedback as a theoretically motivated, novel intervention that speaks directly to users’ altruistic intent in a variety of task settings. Our work also contributes to the message-framing literature in considering competition as a novel addition to the altruism–egoism dichotomy oft explored in public good settings. The purpose of this study was to explore the effects of self-control and social status on self-deception. The present study adopted a forward-looking paradigm to investigate how self-control and social status influence self-deception. In Experiment 1, participants were asked to complete 10 questions, after they predicted and completed 40 questions (commonsense judgment materials) either with or without answer hints. The results indicated that the participants had higher predicted scores under conditions with answer hints compared with conditions without answer hints and that the predicted scores were much higher than the actual scores under conditions with answer hints. In Experiment 2, individuals with different self-control traits were chosen to perform the operation and induction of the perception of social status and then complete tests such as Experiment 1. The results showed that differences in the predicted scores between conditions with answer hints and those without answer hints were observed to be greater in individuals with low self-control traits than in individuals with higher self-control traits, however, such differences between individuals with higher and low self-control traits were only observed in conditions with low social status perception, not in the conditions with high social status perception. The findings indicated that compared with individuals with high self-control, low self-control individuals tended to produce more self-deception. In addition, high social status in the individuals’ perception could restrain the influence of low self-control on self-deception, while low social status in the individuals’ perception could increase the self-control’s influence on self-deception.
In order to improve the forming quality of the Inconel 625 cladding layer and make it to be more widely used. This paper addresses an experimental investigation on the influence of major process parameters like laser power, scanning speed, powder feed rate, and overlapping rate along with their interactions on surface roughness and width error of laser additive manufacturing process for forming Inconel 625 samples. Taguchi method and grey relational analysis were used to optimize the selected parameters, and the verification tests were carried out. The change of microhardness and microstructure in the overlapping zone and nonoverlapping zone of the cladding layer were studied by microhardness tester and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results show that the most significant effect in processing parameters on surface roughness and width error are both overlapping rate, and the optimal levels of laser power, scanning speed, powder feeder rate, and overlapping rate are 1800 W, 8 mm/s, 10 g/min, and 30%, respectively. Analysis of microstructure and composition showed that the content of Cr was high both in the Laves phase and matrix, the content of Nb in the Laves phase increased significantly and reached up to 24.48 wt%, and the Laves in the nonoverlapping zone was more compact than the overlapping zone.
