RELIEVE, v. 15, n. 2, AbstractThe objective of this work was to elaborate and validate a questionnaire to assess the learning strategies of university students more completely than those classically used. In order to do so, a design of test validation was used. Two samples of university students, the first one with 545 students and the second one with 1127, were used. The results of internal consistency, construct validity, predictive validity and temporal stability, included in the text of this paper, are good. The final product is a questionnaire with two scales, six subscales, twenty-five strategies and 88 items, more solid and complete than those previously available. Silicon nitride photonics is on the rise owing to the broadband nature of the material, allowing applications of biophotonics, tele/datacom, optical signal processing and sensing, from visible, through near to mid-infrared wavelengths. In this paper, a review of the state of the art of silicon nitride strip waveguide platforms is provided, alongside the experimental results on the development of a versatile 300 nm guiding film height silicon nitride platform.
ESTRATEGIAS DE APRENDIZAJE EN ESTUDIANTES UNIVERSITARIOS EXCELENTES Y MEDIOS. SU EVOLUCIÓN A LO LARGO DEL PRIMER AÑO DE CARRERA[Learning strategies in excellent and average university students. Their evolution over the first year of the career] AbstractThe aim of this paper was to analyze the evolution of learning strategies of two groups of students, excellent and average, from 11 degrees of the UPV (Valencia/Spain) in their freshman year. We used the CEVEAPEU questionnaire. The results confirmed the availability of better strategies of excellent students and also the existence of evolutionary patterns in which affective-emotional strategies decrease, such as value of the task or internal attributions, and that others increase, such as extrinsic motivation and external attributions. It seems that the student does not meet your expectations in the new context and professors have important responsibilities. Learning strategies and study techniques for university students', allocated four credits and designed by the first author of this study, which is offered at the University of Valencia for students on first-year courses. The impact of this subject is analysed in this paper.Integration in degree programmes through instrumental compulsory subjects: With this option, generally taken during the first year, the strategies and skills needed to study at university are taught. These are compulsory subjects within the degree programme. This appears to be an effective option which is being adopted in some Spanish universities. The fact that the subject forms part of the students' compulsory programme of study means that the results may be more significant, and the continuity also provides more opportunity to be able to assess the results over a longer period of time.
Photonic modulators are one of the most important elements of integrated photonics. We have designed, fabricated, and characterized a tunable photonic modulator consisting of two 180 • -dephased output waveguide channels, driven by a surface acoustic wave in the GHz frequency range built on (Al,Ga)As. Odd multiples of the fundamental driven frequency are enabled by adjusting the applied acoustic power. A good agreement between theory and experimental results is achieved. The device can be used as a building block for more complex integrated functionalities and can be implemented in several material platforms.
Abstract:We demonstrate compact tunable phased-array wavelengthdivision multiplexers driven by surface acoustic waves (SAWs) in the low GHz range. The devices comprise two couplers, which respectively split and combine the optical signal, linked by an array of single-mode waveguides (WGs). Two different layouts are presented, in which multi-mode interference couplers or free propagating regions were separately employed as couplers. The multiplexers operate on five equally distributed wavelength channels, with a spectral separation of 2 nm. A standing SAW modulates the refractive index of the arrayed WGs. Each wavelength component periodically switches paths between the output channel previously asigned by the design and the adjacent channels, at a fixed applied acoustic power. The devices were monolithically fabricated on (Al,Ga)As. A good agreement between theory and experiment is achieved.

A programme to teach learning strategies to 1 st year Compulsory Secondary Education studentsAbstract A training programme to teach learning strategies to Compulsory Secondary Education students in two educational centres was developed and applied. The programme was carried out over a three and a half months period. It included twenty-seven training sessions, twice a week: one during a lecture period and the other during tutorials. The programme was effective and achieved the expected results. In both schools, the experimental groups' learning strategies and academic efficiency improved in Spanish, Social Sciences and Natural Sciences compared to control subjects' results. These improvements showed consistency and stability in a second post-test applied two months after the programme finished. Therefore, the data show generalisation and consistency of results.Downloaded by [Universidad de Sevilla] at 02:25 03 February 2015 INTRODUCCIÓN.
