Electrophoretic mobilitiea for crystallized bovine plasma albumin in the pH range 1-11 at ionic strengths of 0.1, 0.05 and 0.01 and a protein concentration of 0.5 g./100 ml. have been determined. Titrations of the protein at ionic strengths of 0.1 and 0.01 have been carried out at 0°. The apparent heterogeneity of bovine plasma albumin is indicated in the electrophoresis results. The comparison of the mobility and titration data indicates an increase of the frictional coefficient in acid solution, in agreement with the views of Tanford8 and Foster.1
Evaluation was undertaken of several measurements in discriminating between a group of clinically normal persons and a group of persons with definite atherosclerosis manifested by clinical myocardial infaretions. Various Sf lipoprotein classes, the serum cholesterol, the beta lipoprotein cholesterol, the lipid phosphorus, and the "atherogenic index" were included in the study. The results are presented and their significance is discussed.
Americans traditionally avoid reading articles in science journals published in foreign languages. By way of response the publishers of some of thesejournals have progressively increased the proportion of articles in English. That trend is studied here for German basic science journals. Trends tables such as the one reported (for 18 years of 35 journals) can serve librarians in their future decisions about storage and purchase.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
