BackgroundTo evaluate the relationship between cyclin D1 overexpression and bladder cancer prognosis.MethodsA systematic literature search up to July 27, 2013 was carried out in PubMed and Wanfang databases, and the references of retrieved articles were screened. The hazard ratios (HRs) and their 95% CIs were used to combine the data. Heterogeneity and publication bias were also evaluated.ResultsA total of 15 studies containing 2,591 cases were included. We found that increased cyclin D1 levels were significantly correlated with progression-free survival with a pooled HR estimate of 0.54 (95% CI: 0.32–0.92). There was a significant degree of heterogeneity (I2 = 93.8%, P <0.001). Moreover, subgroup analysis indicated that elevated cyclin D1 levels were significantly associated with overall survival in muscle-invasive bladder patients (HR: 0.95, 95% CI: 0.91–0.99), without a significant heterogeneity in the data (I2 = 0.0%, P = 0.456).ConclusionsIncreased cyclin D1 expression level detected by immunohistochemistry is associated with good progression-free survival for bladder cancer. Because of the limited number of studies, further well-designed prospective studies are warranted to confirm the findings from our study.

We report a novel method to control plasma rotation speed, namely, using the rotating magnetic field (RMF), which is a mature technique to form field reversed configuration, to drive the electron rotation and then the ion rotation via electron–ion collisions in a magnetic mirror plasma. It can be observed that the plasma starts rotating if the RMF strength exceeds a threshold value, corresponding to which the value of the magnetization parameter becomes larger than the value of the penetration parameter. The flow speed achieved in this experiment is approximately 0.14 Mach. The rotation is found to start from outside to inside with the propagating time almost equal to the penetration time of the RMFs. Also, a clear sheared flow is observed to have developed in the region of core plasma. It has been further identified that the electron–ion friction is the dominant force to drive the ion spinning up. The rotation speed is primarily determined by the RMF strength, instead of background magnetic field strength, which may offer a method to study the effect of rotation on the confinement in different magnetic field strengths while keeping the rotation profile intact.

A Field-Reversed Configuration (FRC) is formed by an in-vessel odd-parity rotating magnetic field (RMF) antenna in a tandem mirror device, Keda mirror with axisymmetricity. The 40-cm diameter antenna is fed independently by four IGBT-based power units with an output current of 1500 A each at 84 kHz, and their phases are adjustable to launch odd or even parity RMFs. A medium-sized washer gun is utilized to generate a highly ionized seed hydrogen plasma. Driven by RMF, the resultant FRC is formed with a separatrix radius of ∼17 cm, external field of ∼50 G, and trapped poloidal flux of ∼0.15 mWb. The formation process of FRCs is evidenced by the measurement of an array of internal two-dimensional probes; a comparison with the rigid rotor model is presented in this paper. In addition, substantial toroidal electron current is found to be driven, despite the partial RMF penetration. Moreover, the dependence of the driven current on the antenna current is reported and is found to be consistent with the RMF current driving model.

For the collisional merging field reversed configurations (FRCs), it is desired to have both FRCs to be tuned approximately same, as well as to optimize each FRC to have high temperature, and high translation speed so as to retain most of the equilibrium flux after traveling a distance to the middle plane for merging. The present study reports the experimental study of a single-translated FRC (field-reversed configuration) in the KMAX-FRC device with various diagnostics, including a triple probe, a bolometer, several magnetic probe arrays, and a novel 2D internal magnetic probe array. According to the measurements conducted in the present study, a maximum toroidal magnetic field equal to ~1/3 of the external magnetic field inside the FRC separatrix radius is observed, and the typical parameters of a single-translated FRC near the device’s mid-plane are n e ~ 2-4×1019 m-3, T e ~ 8 eV, T i ~ 5 eV , R s ~ 0.2 m , l s ~ 0.6 m, and Φ p(RR) ~ 0.2 mWb . The 2D magnetic topology measurement revealed, for the first time, the time evolution of the overall internal magnetic fields of a single-translated FRC, and an optimized operation regime is given in the paper.

BackgroundCardiovascular diseases (CVD), including coronary heart disease (CHD), heart failure, ischemic heart disease (IHD), and atrial fibrillation, are prevalent in the aged. However, the influence of CVD on ED is less investigated. This study was performed to clarify the causal association between CVD and ED.Materials and methodsGenome-wide association studies (GWAS) datasets targeting CHD, heart failure, IHD, and atrial fibrillation were downloaded to retrieve single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs). Further, single-variable Mendelian randomization and multivariable Mendelian randomization (MVMR) were adopted to explore the causal association between CVD and ED.ResultsGenetically predicted CHD and heart failure were found to increase the risks of ED (OR = 1.09, P &lt; 0.05 and OR = 1.36, P &lt; 0.05, respectively). However, no causal association was disclosed among IHD, atrial fibrillation and ED (all P &gt; 0.05). These findings remained consistent in sensitivity analyses. After controlling for body mass index, alcohol, low density lipoprotein, smoking and total cholesterol levels, the results of MVMR support the causal role of CHD on ED (P &lt; 0.05). Similarly, the direct causal effect estimates of heart failure on ED were significant in MVMR analyses (P &lt; 0.05).ConclusionUsing genetic data, this study revealed that genetically predicted CHD and heart failure may predict better ED compared with atrial fibrillation and IHD. The results should be interpreted with caution and the insignificant causal inference of IHD still needs further verification in future studies.
