Coronary heart disease (CHD) is a life‐threatening condition that poses a significant risk to individuals. Mendelian randomization (MR) is an emerging epidemiological research method that offers substantial advantages in identifying risk factors for diseases. Currently, there are ongoing CHD‐related MR studies. To gain comprehensive insights into the focal areas and trends of CHD‐related MR research, this study utilizes bibliometrics to conduct an in‐depth analysis of CHD‐related MR articles published in the core database of Web of Science (WOS) from 2009 to 2023. A search was performed to identify CHD‐related MR articles published between 2009 and 2023 in WOS. The data, including publication countries, research institutions, journals, citations, and keywords, were analyzed using the Bibliometrix R‐4.0 software package. A total of 111 articles published in 71 journals were included in the analysis. The journal with the highest impact factor (IF) was the New England Journal of Medicine. The articles were distributed across 24 categories within the 71 journals, with the highest number of publications falling under Cardiac & Cardiovascular Systems, Medicine, General & Internal, and Genetics & Heredity. Among the articles, 57 were published in Q1 journals, 42 in Q2 journals, 9 in Q3 journals, and 2 in Q4 journals. The most frequently published journals on CHD‐related MR were Frontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine, Frontiers in Genetics, and the Journal of the American College of Cardiology. A total of 963 authors participated in the 111 articles, with the majority affiliated with institutions in the United Kingdom, the US, and China. The national cooperation network revealed close collaborations between the UK and the US, as well as between the UK and China. The publication of the 111 articles involved 453 research institutions, with Oxford University, Bristol University, and Cambridge University being the most frequently involved institutions. Out of the 111 articles, only 62 were directly related to CHD and MR, with CHD being the outcome factor in 61 of them. These 61 articles investigated 47 exposure factors across eight categories. Among these factors, 10 had been studied in more than 2 articles. The findings concerning the impact of serum uric acid and omega‐6 fatty acids on CHD risk were not entirely consistent. Research in MR related to CHD has been gradually gaining recognition, with an increase in both its academic credibility and collaborative efforts within this field. Indeed, MR has facilitated the identification of risk factors associated with CHD. However, the relationship between these disease risk factors and CHD requires further investigation for clarification. Future MR studies on CHD could prioritize the elucidation and validation of contentious disease risk factors, thereby paving the way for a more comprehensive exploration of additional factors contributing to the onset of CHD.

BackgroundMendelian randomization analysis was applied to elucidate the causal relationship between the basal metabolic rate (BMR) and common cardiovascular diseases.MethodWe choose BMR as exposure. BMR is the metabolic rate of the body when the basic physiological activities (blood circulation, breathing and constant body temperature) are maintained. The normal BMR is 1507 kcal/day for men and 1276 kcal/day for women. The dataset was drawn from the public GWAS dataset (GWAS ID: ukb‐a‐268), collected and analysed by UK biobank, containing 331,307 European males and females. SNPs independently and strongly associated with BMR were used as instrumental variables in the inverse variance weighted analysis. MR‐Egger, weighted median, MR pleiotropy residual sum, and outlier methods were also performed, and the sensitivity was evaluated using horizontal pleiotropy and heterogeneity analyses to ensure the stability of the results.ResultsAn increased BMR is associated with a higher risk of cardiomyopathy (odds ratio [OR] = 2.00, 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.57–2.54, p = 1.87 × 10−8), heart failure (OR = 1.39, 95% CI, 1.27–2.51, p = 8.1 × 10−13), and valvular heart disease (OR = 1.18, 95% CI, 1.10–1.27, p = .00001). However, there was no clear association between BMR and the subtypes of other cardiovascular diseases, such as coronary disease (OR = .96, 95% CI, .85–1.08, p = .48651) and atrial fibrillation (AF) (OR = 1.85, 95% CI, 1.70–2.02, p = 6.28 × 10−44).ConclusionOur study reveals a possible causal effect of BMR on the risk of cardiomyopathy, heart failure and valvular disease, but not for coronary disease and AF.

Background Currently, the potential link between aspirin use and the development of prostate cancer remains uncertain. The purpose of this study using two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) was to elucidate the causal effect of aspirin use on prostate cancer (PCa) risk. Methods This study included pooled statistics from two Genome-Wide Association Study (GWAS), one for aspirin use (61583 cases and 50427 control) and the other for PCa of European descent (22534 cases and 270176 control). Inverse variance weighting (IVW) was used as the main method, MR-Egger method, weighted median method and weighted model method were used to evaluate the causal relationship between aspirin use and PCa risk. Cochran's Q test was used to check the heterogeneity, and the MR-Egger intercept test was used to analyze the horizontal pleotropy of the results, and a residual analysis was carried out to confirm the robustness and reliability of the results. Results Inverse variance weighting was used to infer that aspirin use had a protective effect on reducing the incidence of PCa (OR = 0.986, 95% CI = 0.978–0.994, P = 0.001). Sensitivity analysis showed that pleiotropy and heterogeneity were not observed. Furthermore, the remain-one analysis showed that the survey results were not significantly affected by any instrumental variable. Conclusion There is a causal relationship between aspirin use and the development of PCa, that is, aspirin use reduces the risk of PCa.
