This study aims at identifying the contribution of parents’ socio-economic status (SES) toward their views on the teaching English for children. A survey technique with questionnaires and interviews was utilized to collect the data from 245 parents as the respondents. SPSS with Predictive Analysis Software (PASW) statistics 18 has been employed to analyze the collected data. Descriptively, the reseacher found that parents with different SES have showed similar beliefs on the importance of English mastery. They made acommitment to keep supporting their children with English. It was also found that although their knowledge on EYL was limited, their views and attitudes were good. Statistically, it showed that parents’ social and economic status either in their education, occupation, or income and their views on EYL were not significantly correlated. It came to the conclusion that parents today have equal vision in preparing their children with good education.
The subject of this research was the students at the 11th grade IPA 3 of SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Ponorogo in the academic year 2016/2017, which consisted of 28 students. The research was started on April 04th 2017 until April 27th 2017. The research was conducted for two cycles and six meetings. The purpose of this research was to find out whether vlogging improve students’ speaking skill at the 11th grade of SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Ponorogo in the academic year of 2016/2017. This research was conducted by the researcher and the collaborator. The researcher took a part as a teacher who taught English and the collaborator took a part in this research as observer. The researcher used three instruments. The instruments were observation checklist, questionnaire, and test. The researcher observed the students’ activeness and interest using observation checklist, observed the students’ responses using questionnaire sheet, and measured the students’ speaking skill using test. The form of the test was oral test. The result of observation checklist showed that the classroom situation more conducive. The students were active and interested in the teaching and learning process. The result of questionnaire showed that the students became more interested, confident, and enjoy practice to speaking English by using vlogging. The result of the test showed the improvement from cycle I up to cycle II. The students’ score percentage in cycle I was 53.57%. Meanwhile, the students’ score percentage in cycle II was 100%. The researcher concluded that the implementation of vlogging to improve the students’ speaking skill at the 11th grade IPA 3 of SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Ponorogo in the academic year 2016/2017 was successful.
The way of early childhood teachers in introducing English to their students often seems to be unique. With a limited knowledge and skill, they have to be competent English practioners. The learning outcome migh not be optimal as the parents expected. The writer has raised questions regarding what early chilhood teachers should know and the skills they need to teach English in early chilhood education. This identified need was able to be the basic consideration to help the early childhood teachers have capacity of teaching appropriately. The researcher findings drwn on the questionnaire distributed to 31 early eduaction teachers in Ponorogo. Data findings showed that eventhough their education backgrounds were not suitable with the subject they teach, they will welcome conveniently the offerred breakthrough. They were open to receive any programs to enhance their capacities of teaching skills and attributes they require or knowledge they need.
Penelitian ini mengkaji tentang representasi falsafah Jawa dalam cerita rakyat “Terjadinya Terowongan Air Mangge” di Kecamatan Sukorejo, Kabupaten Ponorogo. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mendeskripsikan representasi falsafah Jawa dalam cerita rakyat tersebut. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif. Data penelitian berupa kata-kata dan kalimat, baik berupa narasi cerita maupun percakapan tokoh dalam cerita. Objek penelitian ini adalah cerita rakyat “Terjadinya Terowongan Air Mangge” di Kecamatan Sukorejo, Kabupaten Ponorogo. Sumber data adalah cerita rakyat “Terjadinya Terowongan Air Mangge” yang telah dibukukan dalam Kumpulan Cerita Rakyat Kabupaten Ponorogo oleh Kasnadi dan Hurustyanti (2016). Teknik yang digunakan yakni baca, simak, dan catat. Instrumen penelitian ini adalah tim peneliti. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan tiga representasi falsafah hidup Jawa, yaitu (a) tentang ketuhanan; (b) tentang sosial bermasyarakat dan kemanusiaan; dan (c) tentang alam sekitar.
