: Ageing is a natural phenomenon which is a fold, ridge and crease in the skin that occurs due to loss of body mass, poor hydration, disintegration of dermis and epidermis junction. The Skin ageing process involves many changes that occur due to the combination of both endogenous factors (gene mutation, cellular metabolism, and hormonal factor) and exogenous factors (U.V, pollutants, chemical, and toxins). In 1950, the number of older people were found to be almost 205 million across the globe. But this number almost got 4 times by the year 2012 and the number of older persons increased to a massive amount of 810 million. The ageing of the skin occurs due to various mechanisms like glycation, free radical, cell cycle, and cellular and molecular mechanism of skin ageing. In this review article, we have discussed the treatment, worldwide newer therapies and marketed formulation that are currently available for the reduction of skin ageing. The most promising and revolutionizing field of nanotechnology is mostly applied in the field of dermatology, cosmetics, and biomedical applications. Nanotechnology also plays a vital role in increasing the efficacy of the product.
Interpenetrating polymer network (IPN) is an enterprising drug delivery system, comprising of two polymers with several advantages like stability, biocompatibility, high swelling capacity and biodegradability which plays an important function in targeted and controlled drug delivery. IPN acquired appreciable focus in the pharmaceutical sector mostly for the last few decades because of their utility in biomedical applications like tissue engineering and drug delivery at the target site at desired rate. For the past few years, different types of polymers obtained from natural or artificial sources have been used to prepare the IPN, resulting in improved properties; thus, IPN is considered in the category of the novel technologies demonstrating the superior performances as compared to the conventional technique. IPN development leads to the formation of dosage form with reduced side effects and prolonged drug action. The current topic includes IPN, types of IPN, mode of preparation, applications, delivery systems and list of polymers employed in the synthesis of IPN.
In global market the demand for cosmeceuticals have shown an appreciable amount of enhancement over the past few years, especially the novel technology is more explored by the researchers as well as the marketers. Nanotechnology provides a wide platform for innovation and variation, the nanocosmeceuticals have shown an amplifiable amount of growth.Nanocosmeceuticals such as nanogels, nanoemulsions, liposomes, niosomes, solid lipid nanoparticles etc. have been used widely due to targeted delivery of the active ingredient, modification in shape, size, colour, penetration into the skin, controlled release delivery of the actives and much more. In global market there are a lot many Nanocosmeceuticals based products exist. Especially, Nanogels are three dimensional polymer network systems and they provides favorable characteristics to formulate, incorporate & fabricate hydrophilic as well as hydrophobic formulations which are required in many cosmeceuticals products. Nanogels can easily replace the conventional cosmeceuticals due to substantial amount of benefit which it provide such as their stimuli responsive behavior, pH responsive mechanism of drug release, small particle size, high water imbibing capacity , tremendous bio compatibility. The various applications of the nanogels in cosmeceuticals has been discussed in this review along with the general properties of the nanogel.
: Wound healing is an elaborated and vastly synchronized process that requires intricate coordination between many cell types with an appropriate extracellular microenvironment. The management of wounds represents a key research area due to the vital functional and aesthetic role of this tissue. An auspicious approach in the currently available treatment is the growth factors that imitate the micro environs and active vital regenerative pathways conducive to wound healing. An organized methodology to study, a multi-expert methodology to treatment and enthusiasm to study the patient’s perceptions are some of the principal amendments that have paralleled technical advances and know-how such as debridement, Negative Pressure Therapy, natural drugs etc. These methodologies may be seen as co-operative in wound healing. This article will review pathophysiology, discuss currently available treatment and novel approaches for treating a wound.
Cancer is among the leading causes of death worldwide, causing a significant rise in mortality and morbidity. In this regard, nanotechnology gained a plethora of attention from researchers, owing to its nano-size and larger surface area, leading to one of the most effective drug delivery systems for chemotherapeutic agents. Indeed, they enhance the bioavailability and targeting of antitumor drugs. The formulations developed utilizing nanotechnology have been used for a long to deliver anticancer drugs. Still, they greatly suffered from several restrictions to effectively deliver the incorporated drug at the specific site. Recently, an advanced technique of developing Surface Modified Nanocarriers (SMN) addressed the shortcomings of older nanotechnology-based formulations. Specifically, ligands or other conjugates attached to the nanocarriers for targeting site-specific tumor/s have been more successful in offering site-specific drug targeting and reducing cell toxicity coupled with prolonged and sustained drug delivery.
A cosmetic product should be a complete package of all excellent properties comprising of proper safety, efficacy, potency with potential marketing efforts. These characteristics are only possible when we have a good regulatory structure, scheme and organization that can continuously regulate and update the cosmetic products. There are many regulatory bodies doing work efficiently. These bodies provide us with strict regulations which help us in guiding Manufacturing, Importing, Packaging, Labeling and other aspects of trade in cosmetic industry. In USA and EU, it is not easy to produce a product in the market, as one has to fulfill the safety requirements as per the recent regulations. In India, we have Drugs and Cosmetic Act (D &C) and Bureau of Indian Standard (BIS), following which we formulate a product for consumer needs. The cosmetic market is at its peak and can be observed to be at highest in upcoming years. The skin care market is amongst the largest growing as compare to other segments like deodorants, hair care and many more. This review helps in knowing the regulations in cosmetic industry and also the marketing scenario.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
