This pain feels lumbar or lumbo-sacral. Tea pickers are at risk of low back pain due to their activities such as the position of bending, lifting and carrying heavy loads. This research aim to factors that risk against the incident of low back pain. Total sample of 132 respondents: 66 cases and 66 controls were selected randomly from the tea pickers workers. Data analysis using Chi Square and logistic regression to know the most dominant factor. There was relationship of employment, back posture, heavy weights with low back pain (P <0.05). There was not relationship age, sex, smoking, body mass index and physical activity with low back pain (p>0.05). Multivariate analysis using logistic regression showed the most dominant working period affecting low back pain. The study found that low back pain was a relevant health problem among tea picker workers. The policy of arranging breaks and lifting techniques is required to prevent low back pain. Keywords: Low back pain, risk factors, the tea pickers
Background: Breastfeeding among postpartum mothers has been a problem due to low milk supply. As a result, mothers often decide to give formula milk or other additional foods, which might affect to the infant’s growth and development. Objective: This study aims to investigate the effect of Moringa Oliefera on the levels of prolactin and breast milk production (baby’s weight and sleep duration) in postpartum mothers. Methods: Quasi-Experimental study with Non Equivalent control group design. There were 30 respondents recruited by purposive sampling, consisted of 15 respondents in intervention group and 15 respondents in the control group. This study was conducted from November until December 2016 in Four Midwive Independent Practice (BPM) in the working area of the Health Center of Tlogosari wetan Semarang. Data were analyzed using Independent t-test.Results: Findings showed that there was a mean difference of prolactin level in the intervention group (231.72 ng / ml), and the control group (152.75 ng / ml); and a significant effect on increasing the levels of prolactin (p = 0.002). The mean of baby’s weight in the intervention group was 3783.33 grams, and in the control group was 3599.00 grams. However, there was no significant effect of moringa oleifera on baby’s weight (p = 0.313> 0.05). While the mean difference on sleep duration was 128.20 minutes in the intervention group and 108.80 minutes in the control group. There was a significant effect on baby’s sleep duration (p= 0.000).Conclusion: There were significant effects of moringa oleifera on mother’s prolactin and sleep duration of the baby. However, there was no significant effect on baby’s weight. Thus, it can be suggested that moringa oleifera can be used as an alternative treatment to increase breast milk production and prolactin hormones. Midwives should promote the benefits of moringa leaves as one of alternative supplements.
Background: Hypertension is an increase in arterial blood pressure where systolic blood pressure is ≥140 mmHg or diastolic blood pressure ≥90 mmHg. Hypertension is often called the silent killer because it does not cause symptoms so the treatment is often late. Occupational-related diseases one of which is hypertension. The type of work, work environment, lifestyle and individual characteristics can be a factor of hypertension. Methods: An analytical observational study using a case-control design with 76 samples consisting of 38 cases and 38 controls taken by consecutive sampling. The variables studied were age, gender, family history, type of work, years of work, workload, work schedule, sedentary behavior, coffee drinking habits, and smoking habits. Data were analyzed by bivariate and multivariate with logistic regression method. Results: Significant factors for hypertension were sex (p=0,012; OR adjusted 6,582; 95% CI 1,522-28,456) and the work type (p=0,020; OR adjusted 5,248; 95%CI 1,292-21,316) as risk factors, while sedentary behavior (p=0,030; OR adjusted 0,311; 95% CI 0,108-0,895) as a protective factor. The factors that are not significant at risk are age, family history, years of work, workload, work schedule, coffee drinking habits and smoking habits. Conclusion: Male and structural work type are risk factors, while sedentary behavior ≥ 6 hours/day is a protective factor. Probability at risk of hypertension is 75%.
Diabetic foot ulcer (DFU) is among the many complications of diabetes and it takes a very long period of time to heal. It can lead to the amputation of the lower limb, thereby resulting to death or in most cases, a bad quality of life. The aim and objective of this study is to assess the effect of bitter melon leaves extracts on serum TNF-α levels and improvement of diabetic foot ulcers. The study technique used here is the randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled trial. Thirty patients suffering from DFU participated in the trial and according to PEDIS scores were divided into two groups, of which 15 patients were in the treatment group and administered with bitter melon leaves extract at a dose of 6 g/day and the remaining 15 patients were in the control group and were given placebo. This intervention was done for 4 weeks and the examination of serum TNF-α levels was carried out at baseline and at the end of treatment. The readings of the healing process for diabetic foot ulcers with PEDIS scores were also taken at baseline, weeks 2, 3 and 4. Data were analyzed using the paired t-test and the independent t test. After 4 weeks of treatment, there was a decrease in baseline serum TNF-α levels in the treatment and control groups (29.5 ± 8.6 pg/ml, P = 0.0001 and 202.5 ± 610.2 pg/ml, P = 0.001). There was no effect on serum TNF-α levels (P = 0.28). There was a decrease in PEDIS degrees from baseline, week 2, 3 and 4 in the treatment and control groups (2.7±0.5; 2.7±0.5; 2.7±0.6; 1.9±0.6 and 2.6±0.5; 2.6±0.5; 2.5±0.6; 2.2±0.8). However there was no effect on diabetic foot ulcer improvement both groups in week 2 (P = 0.46), week 3 (P = 0.57) and week 4 (P = 0.29). Bitter melon leaves extracts is proven to have no effect on the serum TNF-α levels and improvement of diabetic foot ulcers.
Background: Pregnancy increases the risk of developing anxiety that may affect the fetus. Yoga is considered as an alternative therapy to reduce anxiety, blood pressure, and fetal heart rate. Objective: This study aimed to examine the effect of prenatal yoga on anxiety, blood pressure, and fetal heart rate in primigravida mothers. Methods: There were 39 primigravida mothers selected using purposive sampling, which divided to be an experiment group with four-times prenatal yoga and eight-times prenatal yoga, and a control group. The Hamilton Rating Scale For Anxiety (HRSA) was used. Data were analyzed using One way ANOVA and MANOVA.Results: There was a statistically significant difference of prenatal yoga on anxiety (P=0.005), systolic blood pressure (P=0.045), and fetal heart rate (P=0.010). However, there was no significant difference of prenatal yoga on diastolic blood pressure with p-value 0.586 (>0.05)Conclusion: There were significant effects of prenatal yoga on anxiety level, systolic blood pressure, and the fetal heart rates in primigravida mothers. The findings of this study can be an alternative treatment for midwife to deal with anxiety during pregnancy, and an input on the class program of pregnant women to improve the quality of maternal and fetal health.
