All samples were taken as part of standard care procedures. We thank Christina Gerstmann for excellent technical assistance and our collaboration partners from DZIF and RESET for providing the isolates. We declare no competing interests.
The E-test and agar dilution methods showed good concordance with BMD. The disk diffusion method can be useful for initial screening in diagnostic laboratories.
The unrestricted use of antibiotics has resulted in rapid acquisition of antibiotic resistance (AR) and spread of multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacterial pathogens. With the advent of next-generation sequencing technologies and their application in understanding MDR pathogen dynamics, it has become imperative to unify AR gene data resources for easy accessibility for researchers. However, due to the absence of a centralized platform for AR gene resources, availability, consistency, and accuracy of information vary considerably across different databases. In this article, we explore existing AR gene data resources in order to make them more visible to the clinical microbiology community, to identify their limitations, and to propose potential solutions.
This study showed a low incidence of arrhythmias, JET being the commonest, seen more in TOF repair and these could be treated efficiently. Higher Aristotle score, longer surgical time, hypotension, tachycardia, high inotropic score, and high serum lactate levels were associated with the occurrence of arrhythmias postoperatively.
Purpose: The present study was undertaken to detect metallo-β-lactamase (MBL) in nosocomial isolates of Pseudomonas aeruginosa by four different phenotypic methods. Methods: Ninety-one consecutive P. aeruginosa isolates were subjected to susceptibility testing by disc-diffusion assay and Vitek 2. Imipenem resistance was determined by three different methods (disc-diffusion, Vitek 2 and E test). Screening for MBL production was done by imipenem-EDTA combined disc test, imipenem-EDTA double-disc synergy test, imipenem-EDTA MBL E test and EDTA disc potentiation using four cephalosporins. Results: Of 63 imipenem resistant isolates, MBL screening could be done in 56 isolates, of which 48 were MBL positive by combined disc test and 36 by the double disc synergy test. For conÞ rmation of MBL production, MBL E test was done in 30 isolates. All the 30 isolates were conÞ rmed to be MBL positive by the MBL E test method. EDTA disc potentiation using four cephalosporins was not very useful for MBL detection. Conclusions: Imipenem-EDTA combined disc test and imipenem-EDTA MBL E test are equally effective for MBL detection, but given the cost-constraints, combined disc test can be used as a convenient screening method in the clinical microbiology laboratory.
In patients with persistent pleural effusions following univentricular palliation, DF is an attractive option when conventional therapies have failed. This original technique of DF is simple, reproducible, cost-effective, and free of any known complications.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
