<p>Este estudo exploratório investiga duas hipóteses: a) se a ocorrência de termos pode ser indicada por um marcador de definição ou por um elemento que assinala uma explicação do significado; b) se tais marcadores configuram-se diferentemente de acordo com a área especializada, os propósitos da comunicação e o contexto situacional em que ocorrem.</p>
Resumo: O objetivo deste texto é mostrar como o fenômeno da variação linguística é abordado em uma base de dados on-line orientada para o tradutor, contendo combinatórias léxicas da linguagem legal em português, com equivalentes em alemão, espanhol, francês, inglês e italiano. Entendemos a variação terminológica como a utilização de formas lexicais diferentes para referir o mesmo conceito ou expressar a mesma função no contexto discursivo da comunicação especializada. A variação abrange mudanças morfológicas e sintáticas, inserção de itens e ocorrência de sinonímia. Primeiro, delineamos nosso quadro referencial teórico; depois de descrever e categorizar as combinatórias variantes, coletadas em um corpus comparável multilíngue da legislação ambiental, comentamos sua disposição na microestrutura da base.Palavras-chave: Variação terminológica; Base de dados Terminológica; Tradução; Linguagem legal; Terminologia ambiental.

Com o objetivo de contribuir para o quadro teórico-metodológico da terminografia, este artigo expõe alguns princípios organizacionais adotados pela equipe do Projeto TERMISUL na elaboração de seu <em>Dicionário de Direito Ambiental (1998)</em>. Destacam-se os critérios de identificação de termos, de tratamento de definições, da equivalência em língua estrangeira e da estruturação das versões papel e eletrônica. Os problemas enfrentados estão intimamente relacionados com o equacionamento terminológico da legislação ambiental, uma área pluridisciplinar em desenvolvimento.
This paper focuses on the need to advance legal terminology and terminography theory andpractice in the South Market. Considering the close relationship between law and language, a brief overviewof the linguistic panorama of multinational communities where similar studies have been developed issketched. The fallacy that there are no translation problems between Portuguese and Spanish is discussed aswell as the misleading idea of the equivalence of the national legal systems of the member countries.Theoretical and methodological assumptions viewing an approach specifically designed are examined. Thevalue of computerized resources the implementation of terminography is highlighted. Some ideal features forthe South Market terminographical production are outlined.
