O trauma por acidentes motociclísticos atinge um grande número de vítimas e se constitui um grave problema de saúde pública no Brasil. Trata-se de um estudo documental com abordagem quantitativa que objetivou levantar dados epidemiológicos de 554 vítimas de acidentes motociclísticos atendidos nos meses de setembro e outubro de 2006 em um centro de referência ao trauma de Sergipe. As análises dos resultados evidenciaram predominância de homens (82,7%) com idade média de 27,78 anos que deram entrada no turno da noite (45,9%), domingo (27,3%), que tiveram como lesão as escoriações (n=169), nas regiões da cabeça, face e pescoço. Permaneceram no hospital até 12 horas (76%), evoluindo para alta. Dos casos registrados, 14,6% tinham suspeita de ingestão alcoólica e 19,3% não utilizavam capacete durante o acidente.

In this information epidemiology (infodemiology) study, we describe the online public interest about the issue of femicide in Brazil and analyze the relationship between search queries and femicide trends from 2004 to 2015. We showed that information-seeking behavior for femicide in the Brazilian states has been strongly influenced by female homicide rates. Educational and policy-related interventions are needed to improve the population's knowledge and attitude toward femicide.

Background. Mortality in the intensive care unit (ICU) has been associated to an array of risk factors. Identification of risk factors potentially contribute to predict and reduce mortality rates in the ICU. The objectives of the study were to determine the prevalence and the factors associated with the mortality and to analyze the survival. Method. A cross-sectional study conducted in two clinical and surgical ICU in the state of Sergipe, northeastern Brazil. We enrolled 316 patients with at least 48 h of hospitalization, minimum age of 18 years old, sedated or weaned, with RASS ≥ −3, between July 2017 and April 2018. We categorized data in (1) age and gender, (2) clinical condition, and (3) prevalence of delirium. Data from enrolled patients were collected from enrollment until death or ICU discharge. Patients’ outcomes were categorized in (1) death and (2) nondeath (discharge). Results. Twenty-one percent of participants died. Age (53 ± 17 years vs. 45 ± 18 years, p<0.01), electrolyte disturbance (30.3% vs 18.1%, p=0.029), glycemic index (33.3% vs 18.2%, p=0.008), tube feeding (83.3% vs 67.1%, p=0.01), mechanical ventilation (50% vs 35.7%, p=0.035), sedation with fentanyl (24.2 vs 13.6, p=0.035), use of insulin (33.8% vs 21.7%, p=0.042), and higher Charlson score (2.61 vs 2.17, p=0.041) were significantly associated with death on the adjusted model. However, the regression model indicated that patients admitted from the emergency (HR = 0.40, p=0.006) and glycemic index alterations (HR = 1.68, p=0.047) were associated with mortality. There was no statistically significant difference (p=0.540) in survival between patients with and without delirium, based on the survival analysis and length of hospitalization. Conclusion. The prevalence of death was 21%, and age, electrolyte disturbance, glycemic index, tube feeding, mechanical ventilation, sedation with fentanyl, use of insulin, and higher Charlson score were associated with mortality.

Os acidentes de trânsito representam um importante problema de saúde pública mundial, em virtude do impacto morbimortalidade e qualidade de vida das vítimas, o presente artigo teve como objetivo avaliar os fatores preditores e a qualidade de vida das vítimas de trauma por acidentes de trânsito. Trata-se de um estudo observacional do tipo transversal com abordagem descritiva. A amostra foi não probabilística por conveniência, composta por 73 vítimas de trauma por acidentes de trânsito. A coleta de dados ocorreu em dois momentos: (1) durante a internação hospitalar; e (2) após 90 dias decorridos do evento traumático. Os instrumentos utilizados para o levantamento dos dados foi o de caracterização do perfil sociodemográfico e do acidente de trânsito, e o World Health Organization Quality of Life (WHOQOL) Bref. Os dados foram armazenados em planilhas eletrônicas do microsof excel 2013 e analisados com o programa BioEstat 5.0. Os fatores preditores que revelaram ter influência nos acidentes de trânsito, foram o sexo masculino (OR: 39.6), uso do álcool (OR: 31.7), ausência dos equipamentos de proteção individual (OR: 3.00) e uso de veículo automotor nos finais de semana (OR: 3,68). Na avaliação da qualidade de vida, os achados evidenciam que no trauma o domínio físico (35.1±14.8) foi o mais alterado quando comparado com os valores antes (80.5±11.2) e após 90 dias do trauma (54.0±14.5). Os acidentes de trânsito estavam associados ao sexo masculino na condução do veículo, com o consumo de álcool e o não uso dos equipamentos de proteção individual. Além disso, o trauma estar relacionado ao impacto negativo na qualidade de vida das vítimas.

Dengue is a global public health problem. The Dengue Virus (DENV) serotypes are transmitted by an Aedes aegypti mosquito. Vector control is among the primary methods to prevent the disease, especially in tropical countries. This study aimed to analyze the spatial distribution of dengue and its relationship with social inequalities using spatial modelling. An ecological study with temporal and spatial analysis was conducted in the state of Sergipe, Northeast Brazil, over a period of 18 years. Spatial modelling was used to determine the influence of space on dengue incidence and social inequalities. The epidemic rates in 2008, 2012, and 2015 were identified. Spatial modelling explained 40% of the influence of social inequalities on dengue incidence in the state. The main social inequalities related to the occurrence of dengue were the percentage of people living in extreme poverty and inadequate sanitation. The epidemic situation even increased the risk of dengue in the population of the state of Sergipe. These results demonstrate the potential of spatial modelling in determining the factors associated with dengue epidemics and are useful in planning the intersectoral public health policies.
