Projections of grapevine phenophases under future climate change scenarios are strategic decision support tools for viticulturists and wine producers. Several phenological models are tested for budburst, flowering, and veraison and for two main grapevine varieties (cv. Touriga Franca and Touriga Nacional) growing in the Douro Demarcated Region. Four forcing models (Growing degree-days, Richardson, Sigmoid, and Wang) and three dormancy models (Bidabe, Smoothed Utah and Chuine), with different parameterizations and combinations, are used. New datasets, combing phenology with weather station data, widespread over the Douro wine region, were used for this purpose. The eight best performing models and parameterizations were selected for each phenophase and variety, based on performance metrics. For both cultivars, results revealed moderate performances (0.4 < R2 < 0.7) for budburst, while high performances (R2 > 0.7) were found for flowering and veraison, particularly when Growing degree-days or Sigmoid models are used, respectively. Climate change projections were based on a two-member climate model ensemble from the EURO-CORDEX project under RCP4.5. Projections depicted an anticipation of phenophase timings by 6, 8 or 10–12 days until the end of the century for budburst, flowering, and veraison, respectively. The inter-model variability is of approximately 2–4 days for flowering and veraison and 4–6 days for budburst. These results establish grounds for the implementation of a decision support system for monitoring and short-term prediction of grapevine phenology, thus promoting a more efficient viticulture.

The authors' results have demonstrated that the complications were similar to those in other clinical series. Recent and future changes in precipitation extremes over Portugal were studied. Trends in selected precipitation indices were calculated on a seasonal scale for the period of 1950-2003. Considering the same indices, this study also assessed possible changes under future climatic conditions (2046)(2047)(2048)(2049)(2050)(2051)(2052)(2053)(2054)(2055)(2056)(2057)(2058)(2059)(2060)(2061)(2062)(2063)(2064)(2065). Furthermore, trends and projections for the future were evaluated using a single/unified index of extreme precipitation susceptibility (EPSI). The results revealed statistically significant drying trends in spring, mainly in northern and central Portugal, while weak wetting trends were detected in autumn. The EPSI trends also depicted a decrease of extreme precipitation in spring over central Portugal and a slight increase in autumn over northern Portugal and nearby Lisbon. On the other hand, climate change projections revealed a decrease in precipitation, mainly over northwestern Portugal, whereas the contribution of extreme precipitation to total precipitation is expected to increase, mostly in southern Portugal. The maximum number of consecutive dry days (CDD) is also projected to increase throughout Portugal. EPSI showed enhanced susceptibility for most Portuguese municipalities, which may be associated with increased vulnerability to flash floods. Climate change projections by municipality for both EPSI and CDD are an important decision support tool for civil protection and for risk management in Portugal.

ResumoAs enteroparasitoses ainda constituem um grande problema de saúde pública, especialmente em países em desenvolvimento como o Brasil, onde são destaque entre as principais endemias. As parasitoses estão entre as doenças mais frequentes na população de baixa renda, afetando principalmente as crianças devido aos hábitos inadequados de higiene. O objetivo é verificar a prevalência de enteroparasitas em usuários de Unidade de Saúde da cidade de Bom Jesus dos Perdões, São Paulo, Brasil. Entre os 2524 resultados analisados 396 (15,69%) foram positivos para um ou mais parasitas entre helmintos e protozoários. O maior índice de infecção foi pelo protozoário Endolimax nana, parasita não patogênico, marcador de contaminação fecal-oral. Os inquéritos coproparasitológicos devem ser estimulados tanto em áreas urbanas como em áreas rurais. As parasitoses intestinais ainda são crescentes entre as pessoas tanto de áreas urbanas como de comunidades ribeirinhas, fato que parece ser causado pelo aumento desordenado da população, principalmente na periferia dessas aglomerações.Palavras-chave: prevalência; parasitos; saneamento básico; pobreza. Climate research in Portugal is often constrained by the lack of homogeneous, temporally and spatially consistent, and long-term climatic series. To overcome this limitation, the authors developed new high-resolution gridded datasets (~1 km) of daily mean, minimum, and maximum air temperatures over Portugal (1950–2015, 66 yr), based on gridded daily temperatures (E-OBS) at ~25-km spatial resolution. A two-step approach was followed, under the assumption that daily temperature variability in Portugal is mainly controlled by atmospheric large-scale forcing, while local processes are mostly expressed as strong spatial gradients. First, monthly baseline (1971–2000) patterns were estimated at 1-km grid resolution by applying multivariate linear regressions (exploratory variables: elevation, latitude, and distance to coastline). A kriging of residuals from baseline normals of 36 weather stations was applied for bias corrections. Second, bilinearly interpolated daily temperature anomalies were then added to the daily baseline patterns to obtain the final datasets. The method performance was evaluated using fivefold cross-validations. The datasets were also validated using daily temperatures from 23 stations not incorporated in E-OBS. A climatological analysis based on these datasets was carried out, highlighting spatial heterogeneities, seasonality, long-term trends, interannual variability, and extremes. The spatial and temporal variability is generally coherent with previous studies at coarser resolutions. An overall warming trend is apparent for all variables and indices, but showing different strengths and spatial variability. These datasets show important advantages over preexisting data, including more detailed and accurate information on trends and interannual variability of precipitation extremes, and can thus be applied to several areas of research in Portugal, such as hydrology, ecology, agriculture, and forestry.
