The purpose of this study was to verify the presence of a nursing diagnosis of fall risk in elderly with stroke. Observational exploratory and cross-sectional study with descrziptive analysis. Performed in a charitable rehabilitation association in Fortaleza city, from January to March 2010, by primary source, by interviews and physical examination with elderly people who had at least one episode of stroke 37 individuals participated of which 20 (54.1%) were women, with mean age of 70.6years, and 18 (48.6%) lived with a partner and had an average of 5.2 years of study. The risk of falls was found in all elderly. Among the risk factors identified it is possible to highlight Impaired balance (100%), Age above 65 years (83.7%), and Proprioceptive deficit (83.7%). Nurses must consider the risk of falls as a nursing carefocus and implement and evaluate the results of interventions for fall prevention.
Palavras-chave: Cucumis melo L. ambiente protegido, água salinaMelon yield in a hydroponic system with wastewater from desalination plant added in the nutrient solution ABSTRACTTo use of waster water from desalting in the hydroponic cultivation, an experiment was carried out at the Department of Environmental Science of the Universidade Federal Rural do Semi-Árido-UFERSA, in the municipal district of Mossoró-RN, in pots with substrates of coconut fiber under greenhouse conditions. The experimental design was in randomized blocks, with three repetitions. Treatments were composed of five levels of salinity of the nutrient solution obtained with, and without, dilution of the waster water from desalting (2.1, 3.6, 4.9, 6.0 and 7.0 dS m -1 ). The variables plant height, stem diameter, leaf area, mean weight of fruit and total and marketable yield were detemined. In general, the variables decreased linearly with the increase of the salinity of the nutrient solution, showing that the salinity with waster water from desalting reduces the absorption of water by the plants due to the osmotic effect.
Palavras-chave: Lycopersicon esculentum, rejeito salino, salinidadeHydroponic tomato production using reject of desalination in the nutrient solution applied at different stages ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to evaluate the response of tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum) in a hydroponic system, adding water from desalination in the composition of the nutrient solution, resulting in three levels of salinity of nutrient solution: 7,1; 8,7 and 10 ,1 dS m -1 , and the control (without addition of water from desalination: 2.1 dS m -1 ), starting its application at different stages of crop development: 7, 32 and 58 days after transplanting (DAT). The design was completely randomized with 9 treatments and 3 replications, arranged in a 3x3 factorial design (levels of salinity x starting time of the application of salinity), and control. The salinity of the nutrient solution produced by the saline water, significantly reduced the fresh weight of shoot, dry weight of shoots, and fruit production of tomato. The stage of the application of water in the nutrient solution only reduced the dry matter of shoot and fruit yield of tomato, when applied from 7 DAT, while the interaction of these factors did not produce significant effects for the variables.
OBJECTIVE: to analyze the impact that caring has on a member of the family caring for a patient after a cerebrovascular accident, correlating life modifications and mental suffering with the perceived burden. METHOD: a cross-sectional, quantitative study, undertaken in January-April 2010 in Fortaleza, Ceará, Brazil. RESULT: 61 individuals were investigated, monitored by three hospitals' Home Care Program. Data collection was through interviews for identifying life changes, and through the application of three scales for investigating perceived burden, mental state and mental suffering. Respectively these were the Caregiver Burden Scale (CBS), the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) and the Self Reported Questionnaire (SRQ). The majority of the carers were female, married, and the children of the stroke patients. The average age was 48.2 years (±12.4). The most-cited life modifications referred to the daily routine, to leisure activities, and to exhaustion or tiredness. Regarding burden, the dimensions of General tension, Isolation and Disappointment stood out. It was ascertained that overload was more severe when the carer presented more symptoms of psychological distress, in the absence of a secondary carer, and when the principal carers reported perceiving changes in their bodies and health. CONCLUSION: an association between burden and the carer's mental state was not observed. Understanding the care, through analysis of the burden and of the knowledge of the biopsychosocial situation will provide support for the nurse's work in reducing the overload for family caregivers.
The objective of the study was to evaluate the available productions in literature about scales to measure the overload of caregivers of patients with stroke. It was carried out a bibliographical revision in three databases: LILACS, CINAHL and SCOPUS. In 23 works, 24 different scales were identified, and the most cited were: the Caregiver Strain Index, the Caregiver Burden Scale, the Caregiver Reaction Assessment, the Sense of Competence Questionnaire, the Relatives Stress Scale and the Zarit Burden Interview. The use of scales to measure the overload is an important tool to evaluate the context in which the caregiver is inserted, but is more trustworthy to use more than one measure instrument than use only one. Therefore, the validation of scales becomes important for this population.
OBJECTIVE: to develop indicators for the nursing outcome Swallowing Status and the respective conceptual and operational definitions validated by experts and in a clinical setting among patients after having experienced a stroke. METHOD: methodological study with concept analysis and content and clinical validations. The Content Validation Index was verified for the scores assigned by 11 experts to indicators. Two pairs of nurses assessed 81 patients during the clinical validation: one pair used an instrument with definitions and the other used an instrument without definitions. The resulting assessments were compared using Intraclass Correlation Coefficient, Friedman's test, and Minimal Important Difference calculation. RESULTS: All the indicators, with the exception of the indicator Ability to bring food to mouth, presented Content Validation Index above 0.80. The pair using the instrument with definitions presented an Intraclass Correlation Coefficient above 0.80 for all the indicators and similarity was found in all the assessments, according to the Minimal Important Difference calculation. The pair using the instrument without definitions presented a low coefficient (ρ<0.75) for all the indicators. CONCLUSION: the results showed that greater uniformity and accuracy was achieved by the pair of nurses using the conceptual and operational definitions for the indicators of the nursing outcome Swallowing Status.
