O presente artigo busca investigar o misterioso ‘sumiço’ (invisibilidade) da população indígena do Rio de Janeiro oitocentista, fomentado especialmente na segunda metade do século XIX. Para tanto, analisei os processos de recenseamento realizados (durante vários anos) na província fluminense. Dialogando com a documentação da época, as informações censitárias foram cotejadas com relatórios dos presidentes da província, as correspondências oficiais de juízes de órfãos e a própria legislação do Dezenove. Deste modo, percebeu-se que o discurso oficial do ‘desaparecimento’ indígena nesse estado foi engendrado e gradativamente posto em prática por autoridades e políticos – interessados nos patrimônios indígenas.
RESUMO: O presente artigo aborda a produção diferenciada de materiais didáticos e propostas museológicas concebidas a partir de diferentes ações do Programa de Estudos dos Povos Indígenas da Faculdade de Educação da Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (PROÍNDIO-UERJ) em 26 anos de existência, propondo estimular e difundir a sensibilidade e o conhecimento acerca dos indígenas, contribuindo, assim, para a formação, não apenas, de professores e educadores da educação infantil à pós-graduação. A análise inicialmente focaliza três experiências de editoração de livros, posteriormente recupera alguns exemplos de mostras expográficas que abordaram a temática dos povos indígenas no Rio de Janeiro e, por último, tece algumas reflexões sobre o público e suas interações. Trata-se de uma reflexão, ainda que parcial, da contribuição do PROÍNDIO na implementação da Lei nº 11.645.
RESUMO: O presente artigo buscou refletir sobre a dinâmica própria da transmissão de saberes e práticas tradicionais dos chamados tupi, registrados por cronistas franceses entre os séculos XVI e XVII, valorizando concepções indígenas relacionadas à biodiversidade. Para tanto, analisei algumas categorias classificatórias a respeito de plantas e animais que nos permitem discutir parte do sistema taxonômico e o modo como povos falantes da língua tupinambá nomeavam o que chamamos de natureza.
A cidade do Rio de Janeiro no século XIX era o mais importante centro político e econômico do Brasil, configurando-se em um palco de mediações por excelência. Nesse texto, abordaremos o uso da diplomacia por chefes/representantes indígenas como arma em lutas por garantia de direitos, particularmente suas terras, a partir das negociações dos índios Coroado habitantes do aldeamento de Valença (RJ).

In this text, we will approach the use of diplomacy by indigenous representatives/chiefs as a weapon in struggles for guarantees of rights, particularly their lands, from the negotiations of the Coroado indians, inhabitants of the Valencia settlement (RJ).
