ABSTRACT-Plant growth regulators and biostimulants have been used as an agronomic technique to optimize the production of seedlings in various crops. This study aimed to evaluate the influence of gibberellic acid and the biostimulant Stimulate ® on the initial growth of tamarind (Tamarindus indica L.). The experiments were conducted in a nursery with 50% shading, in a randomized block design with five replications and five plants per plot. Thirty eight days after sowing, the leaves were sprayed seven times a day with 0.0 (control), 0.8, 1.6, 2.4 and 3.2 mL of gibberellic acid L -1 aqueous solution and with 0.0 (control), 6.0,12.0, 18.0, and 24.0 mL Stimulate ® L -1 aqueous solution. Stem diameter (SD), plant height (PH), longest root length (LRL), shoot dry mass (SDM), root dry mass (RDM) and RDM:SDM ratio were evaluated ninety days after sowing. Variance and regression analysis showed that GA 3 at 4% promoted plant growth (height), but had no significant effect on stem diameter, longest root length, shoot and root dry mass and the RDM:SDM ratio. On the other hand, all concentrations of Stimulate ® significantly increased plant height and shoot and root dry mass of tamarind seedlings. Index terms: Tamarindus indica L., plant growth regulators, seedling production.
The objective of this work was to characterize 203 lineages and five parents of Ricinus communis L. from the germplasm bank at the Federal University of Recôncavo da Bahia (UFRB), which was established by the Genetic Improvement and Biotechnology Program (NBIO) at the Center for Agrarian, Environmental and Biological Sciences. The study used 35 morpho-agronomic descriptors, proposed by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply, and 12 quantitative descriptors suggested by NBIO. The experiment was conducted in a randomized block design, composed of four blocks, in the experimental field at UFRB in 2014. The frequency and entropy level of the qualitative descriptors were estimated with the Renyi procedure, and an analysis of variance was used for the quantitative descriptors. The analyses were made with the statistical program R. Of the qualitative morpho-agronomic descriptors evaluated, 22.86% had a high level of entropy (above 1.0), and all 12 quantitative descriptors showed significant differences. This indicates genetic variability in the germplasm bank and a satisfactory performance for most of the descriptors evaluated, as well as the possibility of direct and indirect use of the lineages and parents in genetic improvement programs of the species.
ABSTRACTThis work aimed to evaluate the genipap (Genipa americana L.) seed germination and its initial seedling growth, submitted to pre-soaking in regulator and vegetal stimulant. It was arranged in a randomized design with four repetitions of 25 seeds and eight treatments, in which seeds were impregnated for 12 hours: T1 -water, T2 Liquid gibberellins 4% GA 3 (GA 3 4% L) (50 mL), T7 -Stimulate® (5 mL L -1 ) e T8 -Stimulate® (10 mL L -1 ). The seeds were disposed on a paper, previously wet with distilled water and taken to the germinator chamber adjusted in 28ºC. There were evaluated the germination percentage, roots length, hypocotyls, and seedling 21 days after the seeding and the Germination Velocity Index. The results had shown that the genipap s seed pre-soaking for 12 hours in GA 3 4% L (50, 10 e 200 mL L -1 ) e Stimulate® (10 mL L -1 ), provides a higher germination velocity index. The Stimulate® 10 mL L -1 , in pre-soaking for 12 hours provides a higher root growth and increase the number of genipap seedlings, comparing with others treatments.
ABSTRACT-The jaboticaba tree (Plinia sp.) is a native fruit tree belonging to the Myrtaceae family, which occurs spontaneously throughout Brazil. The estimation of genetic divergence among genotypes of native populations can be useful for conservation and knowledge of available genetic resources, in the formation of gene banks and breeding species. In order to evaluate the genetic diversity of jaboticaba trees identified in the Bahia Reconcavo municipalities, 35 genotypes were characterized by ISSR primers (Inter Simple Sequence Repeats). The 18 primers generated a total of 463 amplicons, and the number of initiator fragments ranged from 14 to 36, with an average of 25.72% and 99.65% polymorphism. Polymorphic information content ranged from 0.13 to 0.33 with a mean of 0.22 and the marker resolution power from 4.34 to 15.77, with an average of 8.67. Multivariate analysis allowed the formation of five groups of genetic divergence, where the longest distance was 0.97 between JCA6 and JSF8 genotypes and the lower of JMT2 and JCA1 (0.11). From the use of ISSR markers it is possible to check the variability between genotypes on the evaluated jaboticaba trees. Index terms: genetic diversity, ISSR, Plinia sp.
