El objetivo de este artículo es presentar los resultados del proyecto No. 421-B1-261 titulado Influencia de la capacitación de la Práctica Clínica Basada en la Evidencia sobre la práctica diaria del profesional de enfermería, aprobado por la Vicerrectoría de Investigación de la Universidad de Costa Rica. El compromiso de renovar la práctica de Enfermería en Costa Rica se relaciona de manera directa con el mejoramiento de la salud de la sociedad tanto en lo colectivo como en lo individual, con el fin de reducir los errores en la práctica al ajustarla a los avances científicos. Se realizó una búsqueda en las bases de datos de EBSCO Host, PubMed, Academic Research Complete, MedLine Plus y Scielo. Se llevó a cabo una búsqueda preliminar, luego se introdujeron límites de búsqueda por fecha y descriptores; por último, para el análisis crítico fueron incluidos sólo a texto completo por título y resumen 30 documentos que incluyeron revisiones de literatura, estudios primarios y marcos conceptuales que fueran relevantes para dar respuesta a la pregunta clínica. De los 30 documentos solo se consideró seis de ellos por su contenido, estructura metodológica y calidad. Aunque no se halló una respuesta contundente y directa a la pregunta clínica planteada en este estudio, por la revisión efectuada se puede concluir que los profesionales de Enfermería consideran esencial el enriquecimiento de una práctica clínica fundamentada en la investigación basada en la evidencia, lo cual genera una mayor calidad y seguridad en la prestación del cuidado ejecutado.
El siguiente artículo tiene como objetivo dar a conocer las principales características, de las usuarias madres adscritas a la Asociación de Mujeres Esperanza Viva y que viven con la infección del virus del VIH/SIDA. La investigación realizada es cuantitativa, descriptiva; la información se obtuvo a partir de un cuestionario autoadministrado. Entre los resultados se encontró que, al relacionarse en grupos organizados, las usuarias aceptan mejor su situación de salud al adquirir un empoderamiento que les ayuda a enfrentar el entorno social, por otra parte, socialmente existe, incluido el sector salud, un sentimiento de rechazo a las personas con esta infección (VIH), conducta que se manifiesta mediante la discriminación. A partir del estudio se concluye que la infección con el virus del VIH está relacionada con aspectos de género (patriarcado), luego, que el contagio está fuertemente determinado por el tipo de comportamiento sexual en cada relación y la cantidad de parejas sexuales; por último, en cuanto a la continuidad de la vida, una vez que se ha contagiado de la enfermedad, el ser portador(a) del virus de VIH/SIDA no es una condición que impida la continuación de los proyectos futuros.
El siguiente artículo se origina de la necesidad actual de analizar cuál es la realidad en torno a la industria farmacéutica a partir de los postulados de la (post) modernidad. Para su formulación, se efectuó una revisiónbibliográfica en las bases de datos de la Biblioteca Virtual de Salud (Bireme) y en la Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), en donde tras la aplicación de criterios de inclusión determinados, se obtuvo un total de 23 artículos que fungieron como base del planteamiento hecho. En cuanto a los principales resultados, en trece de los documentos analizados se critica el proceso de comercialización que ha dictado la pauta por seguir en la producción farmacéutica; luego, en otros siete se plantea que en dicha industria se restringe el acceso a los medicamentos en los países o regiones con menor poder adquisitivo, dado que existe resistencia a financiar investigaciones referentes a enfermedades que no son lucrativas. Como conclusión se afirma que en la actualidad, debido a los procesos propios de las políticas neoliberales y al capitalismo que envuelven a la producción farmacéutica, se perdió como objetivo la salud de la comunidad, trasformando dicho derecho en un proceso demarketing y mercantilismo.
Cuando cada uno de nosotros toma, por convencimiento o iniciativa, la decisión de estudiar enfermería, en muchos de los casos nos visualizamos dentro de un hospital o en el ejercicio de la docencia; pues, al pensar en otras posibilidades, como una administración o la práctica investigativa, parecen situaciones lejanas desde la inmediatez de la profesión. Debido a que la identidad que se tenía de la disciplina constituía una figura relacionada con la imagen social de esta.Muchos ingresamos a esta carrera con la consigna de la imagen social de la profesión, donde a la enfermería se le observa como aquella: "figura y apariencia que se caracteriza por su uniforme, el hospital como lugar de trabajo y por sus acciones técnicas como tomar la presión arterial, temperatura, peso, etc." (1), y siendo que, dentro de la representación mental social, a la presente profesión se le caracteriza por virtudes como la: "ayuda al prójimo, calidez, respeto, afecto y paciencia" (1), muchos aún hoy mantienen una autoconcepción de la enfermería que no se aleja de esta percepción.
Cuando se tiene en el presente el avance de la ciencia, la innovación tecnológica, los esfuerzos de la medicina por ser cada vez ser más especializada, y extender al ser humano todas las posibles nuevas alternativas para tratar una afección, se puede indicar sin temor a la equivocación que en salud se está avanzando. Es por ello que la Enfermería, como ciencia de la salud, debe de esforzarse en el ejercicio diario, a la compresión y manejo de la innovación en la atención, pues las condiciones para prestar un cuidado se complejizan, y requieren del mayor y más avanzado conocimiento y destreza para lograr los resultados, dado a que los procesos de la gestión en salud, implican no solo la inversión en recurso económico, tecnológico, farmacológico y humano, sino que conlleva a la vez el buscar la mayor condición de bienestar, hacia las personas, en las cuales se brinda tal atención.
