Objective: to understand the experience of being a mother of a child and a nurse working in the COVID-19 pandemic. Method: a research study with a qualitative approach, conducted with 17 participants from different cities of the state of São Paulo, Brazil. Data collection took place in the months of April and May 2020, through semi-structured interviews conducted via an open access virtual communication platform. The data were thematically analyzed, based on the Complexity Paradigm. Results: the absence and mismatch of scientific and systematic information at the beginning of the pandemic, the fragile institutional support, and the concern of contamination of the children generated stress and anguish in the mother-nurses. The support previously offered by schools and family members was hindered by the pandemic, leading to a greater demand for parental care. Creative strategies to provide distraction, as well as religiousness and spirituality were valued to face the chaos experienced. Conclusion: nurses, while being valued as important frontline professionals in the fight against the pandemic, are invisible in their personal-affective dimension and in that of being a mother. The study indicates the need for structural institutional policies so that mother-nurses are placed in a position of equality and safety for the full exercise of the profession and a healthy intra-family relationship, especially in contexts of adversity such as that experienced during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Objective: To identify and describe the revelations expressed by children with chronic diseases in outpatient treatment. Methods: This was a qualitative study guided by the theoretical framework of symbolic interactionism and Bardin's thematic content analysis. Data was collected through therapeutic play sessions with four preschool children who live with chronic illness. Results: Four thematic categories that characterize the daily life of these children were identified: "Interactions," "Fight," "Support" and "Doubt." Conclusion: The children in this study seek to transform their daily interactions with a view toward being recognized as individuals with voices, desires, wills and opinions.
RESUMOObjetivo: identificar as práticas e crenças parentais adotadas no cuidado à criança prematura no domicílio. ABSTR ACTThe aim of the study was to identify parenting practices and beliefs regarding in-home care of premature infants. It is an observational, crosssectional research carried out with 31 parents of premature babies. Data collection tools were: family records; and the "parental beliefs and care practices scale (E-CPPC)". Data analysis was based on descriptive and inferential statistics (Pearson correlation coefficient). An autonomousrelational parenting style, characterized by a combination of distal and proximal care was identified. The main relational patterns found were overprotection, the difficulties of performing the care routine and child stimulation. Important parenting styles in that context were identified. The study highlights the need for systematic interventions that promote positive parenting abilities. New studies in different contexts are needed to generate knowledge that supports public policies focusing on domiciliary follow-up of premature infants and their parents. Starting from the research question about the meanings the family attributes to interactions experienced during their child's hospitalization, this study tried to understand the interaction experience of families in pediatric hospitals, as well to identify the interventions considered effective the family's perspective. Symbolic Interactionism was the theoretical framework that supported the data analysis process, and Grounded Theory was the methodological framework. Six families with hospitalized children participated. The results allowed us to identify the phenomena "feeling secure to assume risks" and "feeling insecure to assume risks", representing the symbolic meanings attributed to relational contexts that emerge from interaction between families and health professionals. The identified concepts significantly contribute to achieve a better understanding of the family-centered care approach and provide a way to reflect on interaction and intervention with families in pediatric clinical care practice.
