Resumo Objetivo refletir sobre as implicações da pandemia de coronavírus na saúde mental dos profissionais de enfermagem e os principais recursos de apoio em desenvolvimento. Método artigo reflexivo, produzido com base na formulação discursiva acerca da saúde mental dos profissionais de enfermagem frente a pandemia de coronavírus, correlacionado com as atuais recomendações de suporte psicológico do Ministério da Saúde, Organização Mundial da Saúde, Organização Pan-Americana da Saúde e Fundação Oswaldo Cruz. Resultados e discussão em resposta à pandemia, uma crise em saúde mental pode estar a ocorrer entre os profissionais de enfermagem. Por estarem, diretamente, ligados ao atendimento de casos do novo coronavírus, experienciam situações estressoras, adicionais àquelas já vivenciadas nos serviços de saúde, incluindo preocupações, medo e insegurança com a saúde de si e da população. Como resultado, foi possível refletir acerca das principais implicações da pandemia para os profissionais de enfermagem e os principais recursos de apoio em desenvolvimento, especialmente relacionados a identificação e manejo de situações estressantes. Conclusões e implicações para a prática uma série de recursos de apoio úteis aos profissionais de enfermagem foram reunidos, com o objetivo de subsidiar estratégias para enfrentar as implicações da pandemia de coronavírus na saúde mental dos profissionais de enfermagem.
Resumo Objetivo conhecer estratégias para o desenvolvimento da sensibilidade moral na perspectiva dos enfermeiros que atuam em unidades de terapia intensiva. Método pesquisa qualitativa, do tipo exploratório descritiva, realizada com 19 enfermeiros atuantes em três unidades de terapia intensiva de um hospitalfilantrópico do Sul do Brasil através de entrevistas semiestruturadas, analisadas mediante análise textual discursiva. Resultados emergiram duas categorias: desenvolvimento da sensibilidade moral a partir da formação acadêmica e desenvolvimento da sensibilidade moral a partir da experiência profissional. Entre as estratégias verificadas destacaram-se as discussões e reflexões acerca de problemas éticos, a vivência de atividades extracurriculares, a comunicação efetiva, o trabalho multidisciplinar, a realização de reuniões, a busca pelo conhecimento e a educação permanente em saúde. Conclusões e implicações para a prática o desenvolvimento da sensibilidade moral dos enfermeiros pode auxiliá-los no reconhecimento e enfrentamento de situações eticamente inadequadas, de modo a favorecer o exercício da autonomia e a capacidade de lidar com os conflitos éticos emergentes do contexto de trabalho. Neste estudo, foi possível conhecer ainda, que priorizar espaços para a reflexão e discussão coletiva nos ambientes de formação e atuação da enfermagem, oportuniza o fortalecimento de tomadas de decisões éticas, coerentes, autônomas e eficientes.
Background Professors of nursing sometimes experience specific situations in their daily practice that conflict with their values and ethical principles and may culminate in moral distress. Moral distress occurs when one is prevented from acting according to his or her knowledge or values, or what one considers to be ethically sound. Objectives To identify the profile of professors of nursing through grouping sociodemographic characteristics and intensity of moral distress. Method Cross-sectional and exploratory study addressing 373 nurses teaching in Brazilian federal public higher education institutions. Data were collected from June to December 2018 through email, using the Google Docs tool. A moral distress scale directed to nurse educators was used. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, variance analysis, and cluster analysis. Ethical considerations The Institutional Review Board at the Federal University of Rio Grande approved this study. Findings Initially, four clusters emerged for each variable predicting the profile of Brazilian professors of nursing: sex; whether the individual worked in a graduate program; age; experience in years in their respective higher education institution; and intensity of moral distress. The profile of Brazilian professors of nursing was represented by the largest cluster, 36.5% (n = 136), composed of women working in graduate programs, aged 37 years old on average, having worked in their respective institutions for approximately 5 years, and presenting a moderate intensity of moral distress. Conclusion Assigning individuals into groups facilitates seeing similarities among the predictors that compose the profile of Brazilian professors of nursing, thus recognizing those workers experiencing moral distress in their daily work routine. In addition, this study’s results are expected to encourage reflection on the planning of efficacious interventions directed to the context of education and health.
To investigate the perception of undergraduate nursing students about the teaching career of higher education at a public university in southern Brazil. This is a qualitative, exploratory-descriptive study consisting of twenty-seven nursing students, enrolled between the first and ninth grades of the course. Data collection took place between May and June 2017, semi-structured interviews were used. The data were analyzed according to the textual discursive analysis. Based on the results obtained, from the data analysis, three categories emerged: Students' perception of the entry and exercise of the teaching career; Teacher's role / duties; and Challenges for exercising the profession with quality. The conclusions indicated that teachers should be aware of the perceptions of nursing students about the teaching career, so that these professionals are able to better meet the needs and expectations of their students, contributing to the strengthening and quality of teaching and learning.
This study aimed to identify the weaknesses and potentialities about the teaching career in higher education in the perception of nursing students. It was a qualitative, exploratory-descriptive research, carried out in a federal public university in the extreme south of the country. The data collection was carried out in July 2017 with 27 participants, through semi-structured interview with open and closed questions. . The data were analyzed through textual discursive analysis, with two categories emerging: Weaknesses and Potentialities about the teaching career from the perspective of nursing students. It was possible to observe that the weaknesses identified are found in teacher training and that the potential identified by academics should be increasingly encouraged.
Objective: To culturally adapt and validate the General Practice Nurse Satisfaction Scale for the Brazilian context. Method: Methodological study performed according to guidelines provided in the international scientific literature and validation of the Australian instrument for the Brazilian context. The sample consisted of 199 patients admitted from August 2017 to January 2018 in a public university hospital in the south of Brazil. Data were analyzed using factor analysis and Cronbach’s alpha. Results: According to factor analysis, 21 questions were validated and divided into four dimensions: interpersonal relationship and communication, confidence, credibility, and dedication. The instrument presented satisfactory internal consistency, with Cronbach's alpha equal to 0.93, and ranging between 0.87 and 0.66 for the dimensions. Conclusion: The instrument’s Brazilian version is valid and reliable to assess the satisfaction of patients with nursing care.
RESUMO Objetivos: analisar o nível de engajamento dos enfermeiros na advocacia política por meio da análise de cluster. Métodos: estudo observacional, com abordagem quantitativa. Um total de 184 enfermeiros que atuam na atenção primária, secundária e terciária em uma cidade do sul do Brasil preencheram a Policy Advocacy Engagement Scale. A análise dos dados consistiu em estatística descritiva, análise de cluster, análise de variância e chi2. O Comitê de Ética em Pesquisa aprovou o estudo. Resultados: foram encontrados quatro clusters diferenciados de acordo com a experiência profissional, nível de complexidade assistencial e unidade. A análise de agrupamento revelou que a advocacia do paciente para a comunidade obteve a maior média, indicando que a advocacia política é efetiva em ambientes organizacionais e que a qualificação profissional favorece maior engajamento na advocacia política. Conclusões: os resultados revelam que os enfermeiros exercem um papel ativo na advocacia política, buscando promover mudanças positivas na saúde, principalmente os que atuam na atenção terciária, grupo de enfermeiros que obteve as maiores médias.
Background: Mismatch between the perception of one’s moral duty and one’s real social contribution may trigger moral distress, especially when no specific resistance strategies are used to counteract morally distressing situations. Considering a philosophical-ethical conception, individuals need to first reflect upon themselves to later turn to the world and confront their current situation in order to change it. Objectives: To understand moral distress experienced by nursing professors teaching in higher education institutions and the use of parrhesia as a coping strategy. Method: This qualitative exploratory-descriptive study addressed 33 nursing professors working in Brazilian federal public universities using an open-ended question form. Data were collected between June and December 2018 and analyzed using discursive textual analysis. Ethical considerations: The Institutional Review Board at the Federal University of Rio Grande approved this study. Findings: Three categories emerged: performance of nursing professors and potentially distressing situations, the experience of moral distress, and parrhesia as a strategy to deal with moral distress. Nursing professors face situations that cause moral distress in the context of higher education, however, those who adopt parrhesia as a coping strategy find it easier to express their beliefs from the perspective of moral duty, even in the face of conflicts. Conclusion: When the nursing professors in this study acknowledge elements in the power structure that hinder their actions, they express parrhesia, as an essential virtue in an attempt to modify unsymmetrical power relations that can trigger moral distress.
