Resumen Es importante discutir sobre estrategias para desarrollar la competencia en formulación de buenas preguntas en la clase de ciencias en los estudiantes, puesto que éstas adquieren un rol protagónico en los procesos de enseñanza y aprendizaje. Por esto, instalar estrategias concretas que promuevan la formulación de buenas preguntas, se plantea como un desafío para la investigación en didáctica de las ciencias. En este artículo, se analiza cómo las actividades que utilizan situaciones problema, favorecen la formulación de buenas preguntas en el discurso escrito del estudiantado de la escuela secundaria. Estas actividades se realizaron a lo largo de cuatro sesiones de clases, durante el desarrollo de la unidad didáctica de estructura y función de la membrana plasmática. Los resultados muestran que el estudiantado participante de esta investigación presenta mejoras en las preguntas abiertas que formula, aumentando progresivamente el nivel cognitivo de sus preguntas, según transcurre la unidad didáctica.
En Argentina, como en otros países de América Latina, los estudiantes que asisten a escuelas de contextos de alto nivel socioeconómico y cultural ("de élite") obtienen en promedio mejores resultados en evaluaciones estandarizadas que sus pares de escuelas de menores recursos. Aún así, dichos resultados se encuentran por debajo del promedio de los de los alumnos de muchas otras regiones del mundo. Comprender mejor estos desempeños implica abrir la "caja negra" del aula para analizar la relación entre enseñanza y aprendizaje. Se realizó un estudio cuali-cuantitativo para indagar cómo se enseña Ciencias Naturales en cinco escuelas primarias de élite de la provincia de Buenos Aires. Se analizaron la cantidad de horas dedicadas al área, los contenidos curriculares y las actividades didácticas propuestas por los docentes de 4to grado a partir de los cuadernos de clase de los alumnos. Además, se examinó su grado de coincidencia con lo propuesto en el diseño curricular jurisdiccional y se entrevistó a los docentes para conocer las razones que atribuyen a sus decisiones didácticas. Observamos que en todas las escuelas se dedica el tiempo estipulado para la enseñanza de las Ciencias (un promedio de 2,6 horas de clase por semana), pero no se abarca la totalidad de los contenidos curriculares. Además, si bien prevalecen las actividades de indagación, generalmente son completamente pautadas por el docente o los libros de texto. Estos hallazgos muestran que aún en las escuelas más privilegiadas queda mucho por mejorar y contribuyen a comprender los bajos resultados de aprendizaje del país.
Es fundamental que el profesorado conozca distintas estrategias para el desarrollo de competencias científicas en sus estudiantes, y la formulación de buenas preguntas se instala como una necesidad emanada de las bases curriculares de 2013. En este artículo se expone una propuesta didáctica que demuestra cómo, a partir de una actividad que utiliza una situación problema, se promueve la elaboración de buenas preguntas en el estudiantado de primer año medio, durante una clase enmarcada en la Unidad Didáctica de Estructura y Función de la Membrana Plasmática. Los resultados indican que las preguntas abiertas superan a las preguntas cerradas después de la enseñanza, y que las preguntas abiertas formuladas transitan desde los niveles cognitivos más sencillos a niveles cognitivos más complejos en ambos cursos estudiados.
