Globalization perspective considers the world as a large market, which requires the resources readiness as capital to be able to participate actively. Local culture is an important capital to create identity and social harmonization in constructing a better quality of life. In the 15th–16th century AD, the Java north coast of Indonesia was known for having several old towns with their important roles in spreading Islam. Centuries later the legend of Walisanga still greatly influences the people’s lives particularly in Demak. The Muslim community is living tradition in this area has become one of the identity of the city. The development in the last decades has shown significant impacts on the tourism sector. This phenomenon showed that there would be conflicts of interests between social-cultural sectors and economic sectors. In this kind of situation, the community must adapt spatial settings to accommodate their needs. The purpose of this article is to find the concept of spatial setting formed by economic, cultural and religious factors in this historical area. The locus is the Muslim settlements in Kadilangu Demak a site of Sunan Kalijaga’s heritage. This study that employed qualitative research methods, the three spatial concepts proposed are: (1) the identity space of local culture is strongly exists (2) the shift in the value of space, which has changed from the glory of the noble family tothe common people (3) the space for morality control, which functions as the control of community’s moral. The third concepts are local genius, which is significantly potential for tourism.
The occurrence of climate change and environmental problems resulted changes in Bandengan urban Village’s settlements, and especially on its physical elements. Bandengan urban Village as a settlement in coastal area was threatened by the “rob” disaster, which means the phenomenon of flooding result of rising sea levels that regularly occur until now. Moreover, there are also threats from high wave disasters, abrasion, Land Subsidence, and flooding. The existence of these phenomena, bring up responses from the community to adapt and survive in the environment from the threat of its disaster. This study aims to determine the form of adaptation that has been done by the community in settlements affected by the “rob” disaster in Bandengan urban Village. The research uses qualitative methods with descriptive approaches, and uses purposefully select sampling techniques. That is by taking the research zone in an areas that are suspected of having the highest risk, and the areas with the lowest risk level from the threat of “rob” disaster in Bandengan urban Village. The analysis was only focus on the physical form of houses element within the settlement, that’s because to get the specific and comprehensive findings. The results showed that the most dominant form of adaptation was divided into three groups, that were the avoidance adaptation was done by moving to another place that was more secure or evacuate, protect adaptation was done by creating dikes and fill with soil, as well as adaptation to accommodate was done by elevating the floor and lifted up the roof of the houseKeyword: Adaptation, Settlements, “Rob” disasterAbstrak: Terjadinya perubahan iklim dan permasalahan lingkungan mengakibatkan permukiman di kelurahan Bandengan mengalami perubahan secara signifikan, khususnya pada elemen fisik permukiman.
THE EFFECT OF TRADE LOCATION SELECTION TOWARDS STREET VENDOR’S VISIBILITYThe Sidewalk is one of the open space forms that support all activities on a regional scale. As an element of urban transportation, it serves to accommodate pedestrians by not forgetting supporters of activities that utilize the presence of pedestrians on the sidewalk. The existence of activity supports, in which one of them is street vendors, has a reciprocal relationship with pedestrians. Buy-and-sell interactions that occur between street vendors and pedestrians sometimes cause problems, such as the demand for space needs. The large number of street vendors who demand space is inversely proportional to the existing spatial dimensions, thus causing crowding among sidewalk users. Sidewalks, whose primary function is forgotten, are dominated and perceived to be commercial areas by street vendors. This study aims to look for the relationship between perceptions of visibility’s attribute shown by how they behave when arranging shanties in the setting of the Pandanaran corridor sidewalk, Semarang. Starting from the street vendors coming, arranging shanties, banner orientation, until the finish. The selection of location of stalls on the sidewalk is allegedly based on the strength of the property in the setting and the existence of demands for visibility attribute and other attributes which were supported. The Person-Centered Mapping method and questionnaire will be used to obtain behavioral record data as well as street vendor’s statistical data in trading on the sidewalk. The data collected were then analyzed using descriptive statistical analysis methods.
