Historical areas are one of the alternative tourism destinations in Semarang City. The most attractive and popular spot is the Semarang Old City, which is presently being prepared to become a World Heritage based on the beauty, authenticity and environmental attraction of the colonial buildings as well as the fascinating history of the area. However, most millennials prefer more recreational activities such as taking pictures, riding bicycles, sightseeing and enjoying the culinary surroundings without showing any interest in the history of the Old City. The potential importance of these millennials to the tourism market of this area requires the accommodation of their ever-changing needs. Therefore, researchers are encouraged to study young people’s perspectives and preferences towards historical tourist destinations such as the Old City. This involved the application of the qualitative method to examine the characteristics, preferences and motivations of millennials travelling in historic tourism areas through observation and interview millennials. The findings of this study were expected to be used in setting up some strategies to overcome the inherent problems of historic site tourism and also to satisfy the needs of the tourists, especially the millennials.
Since the recognition of batik by UNESCO, the batik market has expanded throughout the world. This is marked by the increase in the value of batik exports to various countries. In the midst of increasingly fierce trade competition, industries are demanded to be capable and have high competitiveness. Although batik is considered as one of the strategic industries, in terms of development, batik still faces several problems both internally and externally. The purpose of this research is to discuss about the solution to develop batik in Cibelok Village, Pemalang Regency by analyzing the value chain so that it increases the selling value of written batik. This study used a value chain analysis approach, Competitiveness Diamond, and Critical Success Factor Value. Based on the results of the analysis, it was found that the profit generated per onefabric production is Rp74,700. Increasing profit margins can be done by considering the role of several activities in the batik business process. The activities to consider are operations, followed by marketing and sales, as well as inbound logistics. In addition, product quality and innovation in batik patterns are needed in an effort to increase sales.
Dusun Semilir is one of the largest tourist destinations in Central Java-Indonesia due to its attractive building design that increases the curiosity of tourists. However, there are several implementations of tourist attraction design, accessibility, and supporting facilities that do not consider the humanist aspects such as non-sloping paths, too high stairs, which hindered those with limitations including the elderly and disabled, from accessing and enjoying the atmosphere. This indicated that the universal design approach is less than optimal. Therefore, this study aims to maintain tourist comfort by providing a universal design perspective for a tourist destination. Qualitative methods were used to explore universal design-related phenomena and problems in order to implement the design concepts that are accessible to everyone. Furthermore, observations and interviews with purposive sampling techniques were used as the instruments while descriptive analysis techniques were conducted to determine the comfort of tourists based on the universal design aspect. The output of this study is the importance of using universal design to create accessible tourism.
